Chapter 17(Revised)

"Jae?"

"Yes, Superman?"

He kisses her forehead. "Do you want to go on a date tomorrow?"

She turns her head so that she is facing him. "What kind of date?"

"I don't know, you know all the fun places around here," he says with a shrug and once again kisses her forehead.

"Alright, but we are not going to the dance hall!"

He puts on a sad face. "Ah, why not Jae Sweet?"

She glares at him. "You know why!"

"Actually no I don't," he says becoming serious.

She rolls her eyes. "Really? You are going to make me tell you?"

"Yes."

"Fine! Because that is where all the wacko drunks go to keep from getting sober," she spats.

His lips form an 'oh'. "Okay, yeah let's not go there," he pauses and adds at a whisper, "My girl isn't going there."

She laughs and kisses his cheek. "Don't worry, it ain't never gonna happen."

He too laughs, smirking at her horrible grammar. He pulls her closer to him and lays his head on the top of hers breathing in the smell of her hair that is more intoxicating than alcohol ever could be. She smiles and curls up in his arms.

Jaelyn laughs as Brooke obsesses about how Tyson better behave.

"Have you guys kissed since you got back together?" Brooke exclaims, her eyes growing wide and her mouth gaping.

Jaelyn shrugs. "Like three times."

Brooke squeals. "Oh my goodness! Was it like a peck or did you guys make out?"

Her cheeks turning beet red Jaelyn turns away quickly. "I don't know! Does it matter?"

"How do you not know what kind of kiss it was?" Brooke rolls her eyes and throws her hands in the air dramatically.

Jaelyn feels her phone vibrate in her pocket and pulls it out. "He is going to be here in like five minutes and we don't even know what I am wearing!"

Brooke smirks and lifts up a simple blouse and a dark pair of Cruel Girl jeans.

Jaelyn smiles and takes the hanger from her friend's hands. "Thanks," she mutters as she exits the room. She pulls on the teal colored, cap sleeved, blouse and smiles. It hangs from her shoulders covering the back pockets of her jeans and meeting her leather belt at her hips. She nods in satisfaction and grabs her makeup bag. Rummaging through the bag she pulls out her favorite lip gloss with her lips turning up into a smile. Not since before working sheep has she worn any sort of makeup and she was starting to worry that she has lost the sparkly gloss, but just as always it was at the very bottom.

"Jaelyn! Tyson is back," Brooke yells, popping the door open and whistling loudly. "Dang, I pick great outfits!"

Jaelyn rolls her eyes. "Okay Brooke, you can stop gloating now. Can you tell Tyson I am almost ready?"

"Do I have to keep updating him every five seconds? Just get your phone, take his heart and run."

"You really have to stop thinking of ways to break his heart. It's not happening, not now, not later, never." With that she slips her phone in her back pocket, steps out of the bathroom and heads towards the living room.

Tyson wants to crawl away as Brooke stares at him. Her gaze is stern and her facial expression is no softer. When she finally turns away from him and waltzes the other way he feels his shoulders relax and he removes his hands from his pockets.

He begins to tap the toe of his boot as he waits to see what Jaelyn has picked to wear for the 'semi-causal' date, as he had informed her before slipping off into town. He tries to place himself in her shoes as he replays the excuse he had given her as to why he needed to make the fifteen minute trip into town. The snaps on my belt came loose and I can't go on a date looking like an idiot. It was a complete lie, but it had gotten her from questioning him farther. The sound of boots on the wood floors keeps his thoughts from wandering too far from reality.

As the sound gets louder he glances up sucking in a breath when his gaze sweeps over Jaelyn. Her outfit fits her like it was made just for her body and the way her long straight hair hangs down her back has him dying to run his fingers through it. "Jae, you look beautiful," he says, wrapping his arms around her as she does the same.

"You look pretty handsome for a broke vet student," she teases with a smirk.

He laughs and pulls her to him. "Are you ready to go?"

She nods, taking his hand with a smile. He opens the door for her letting her exit first before following her out. At his pickup he follows her around to the passenger side and opens it for her kissing her forehead before speed walking around to his side. As he starts the engine he glances at her with a deep smile spreading across his face. She is mine, all mine.

Jaelyn's curiosity of the designation grows as he weaves his pickup through the narrow streets. By staring out the window she keeps from bugging him to tell her where he has picked.

"You getting curious over there?" He asks his smirk driving her up the wall.

She shakes her head. "Nah, just enjoying the beauty of Fort Stockton."

He scoffs, "Right, because this part of Fort Stockton is the most beautiful place on the face of the earth."

"Fine, I am curious."

"I knew it."

Rolling her eyes she turns back to the window smiling at the children that are playing in their yards. After three blocks the town lake comes into view. She glances at Tyson and catches the smile sitting on his lips before he looks away. He pulls up to the lake and cuts the engine. After getting out himself he opens her door and shuts it behind her. Then he opens the back door and grabs a picnic basket.

"Ready?" He asks, taking her hand.

She nods smiling back at him. He leads her to the base of a large mesquite tree and drops the basket to the ground. When he opens the basket revealing the contents her smile grows.

"I didn't figure you wanted my cooking so I improvised," he tells her smiling.

She kisses his cheek. "But I like your cooking."

"I think we can both agree that this will be much better."

She laughs. "I must admit that it is hard to pass up Sassy's chicken strips."

"It has been too long since I have eaten Sassy's Diner's food with you," he says through a mouth full of food as he hands her a chicken strip.

"Mm," she mumbles sinking her teeth into the crispy, golden chicken. It is hard to beat a homemade chicken strip under a tree with your vet student boyfriend. The thought makes her laugh causing chicken to spray everywhere. Tyson's eyebrows farrow together as he shoves a napkin towards her. "You okay there?"

She swallows. "Yeah, just choked on my food," she lies.

He kisses her cheek and pats her back while smirking. She smiles and kisses his temple before moving to peck his lips. When she pulls back he frowns and stuffs another piece of chicken in his mouth.

"Stop pouting, Superman," she demands.

He grins and wraps his arms around her.

"You aren't kissing me with a mouth full of chicken!"

He wiggles his eyebrows and swallows before opening his mouth to prove to her he has finished. She frowns and playfully smacks his arm. Ignoring her smack he pecks her lips with his. She narrows her eyes at him before letting her hand slip to the back of his neck and her lips to connect with his.
