Chapter 15(Revised)

Jaelyn rolls over. She groans and rubs her shoulder when she hits the floor. Slowly she opens her eyes and shuts off the alarm on her phone that sits on the table. The beeping stops, but the small throb in her shoulder doesn't. Glancing at the couch she smiles, Tyson lays on his back his chest rising and falling peacefully. Pulling herself into a sitting position she shuts off the TV and convinces herself to change from yesterday's clothes.

Passing by Cane's room she sucks in a breath in and lets it out gradually. As the pain of the lost relationship slowly slips away the constant reminders remain and sharply poke at the wound. Not until strong arms wrap around her waist does she realize how long she had been standing there staring into her brother's room.

"Good morning Superman," she sings, putting on her fake cheer.

He smiles a weak smile. Sleep still clouds his eyes though he tries to rub it away. "Good morning, Sweet. You okay?"

Quickly she nods her reply and turns out of his arms. She steps into her room and closes the door behind her. By the sound of her footsteps and the knock on the door she knows he followed her.

"Jaelyn, please let me in," he calls through the door. When she opens it he steps inside and sits on her bed. "Jae Sweet, come here."

She slowly moseys over and sits in his lap resting her head against his shoulder. "Yes?"

"Tell me why you are moping around, please?" His arms hold her close to him while he fingers the ends of her hair.

Now she starts to play with the wrinkled collar of his shirt. "I'm just tired, I've been working late into the evenings lately."

He nods. Slight amusement perks the corners of his lips. "And that is why you stood in front of your brother's door for ten minutes staring off into space?" He questions taking her hand in his.

She closes her eyes and pushes back the angry and sad tears. Why does he have to be so good at reading her? "No, I- I just can't believe that he just left without even explaining himself or letting me explain myself. I just miss him."

"I know and I wish there was something I could do." He kisses her temple making her crack a small smile. "I think we were both for real tired though."

She moves to be able to stare up into his eyes. Lightly her lips lift into a smile. "Yeah I don't remember, but like the first ten minutes of the movie and then I was out of it."

"I watched about half of the movie."

Against his silent pleas she gets up and moves to her closet. She pushes a couple of shirts out of the way and frowns at the next one. "What are we doing today?"

Shaking his head he says, "I don't know, what do you want to do today?"

She sighs playfully. "You always make things so hard! I want to do a lot of things and I need to do a lot of things, but I can do those later. You are only here for a day or so."

"Okay, but don't make it sound like these few days are the only days you get to see me," he says wrapping his arms around her and kissing the top of her head.

She smiles leaning into his embrace. "Okay so what are we doing?"

"How about we go on a picnic and take the horses for a ride? And maybe we can squeeze in some time to watch you draw."

She shakes her head. "I don't see what everyone thinks is so fascinating about watching me draw, but I can agree with the plans. Now I need you to go get dressed so we can feed."

He laughs and kisses her temple before making his way to his bag in the room across the hall. He pulls on some Wranglers and a green button up and changes into his older boots. He picks up his hat and places it on his head before taking a seat in the rocking chair by the door.

When he hears the clicking of boots against the tile floor he raises his gaze from his phone. He chokes on his breath as he takes in the sight before him. Her hair is brushed into its slight waves, the light purple button up she wears hugs her curves and her wranglers fit her short legs perfectly. He gulps. "You are the hottest thing I have ever seen," he whispers, placing his hands on her hips.

She blushes. "You look handsome yourself."

"Why thank you," he declares holding out his elbow for her to take.

She giggles and loops her arm through his after placing her palm leaf hat on her head. They stroll to the barn and turn the horses out, all except the stud she was working with yesterday and one of her geldings. They feed the two oats and a chip of hay before going back to the house for their own breakfast.

Tyson makes French toast and sausage while she fixes coffee. "You know I could get used to this."

She smiles, handing him a cup of black coffee just how he likes it. "What's that?"

"Making breakfast with you, waking up with you just maybe you won't fall off the couch." He laughs, taking the cup and kissing her forehead.

She laughs. "I could agree, especially with the falling off part that kind of hurt my hip."

He places the toast on a plate drizzling honey over the top before flopping the sausage patties on the side. He takes the two forks on the counter and stabs each patty with one making Jaelyn shake her head. She gets herself a cup of coffee before joining him at the table. They hold hands and he prays before cutting the toast and shoving a piece in her mouth.

"Superman! That was huge," she exclaims through the mouthful of food.

With food in his own mouth he awkwardly grins. "I don't want you going hungry."

"Like I am going to go hungry when you make enough food for a herd of bison!"

A roll of laughter over takes him. "Really? A herd of bison?"

She rolls her eyes. "Just eat."

After they finish eating they saddle the horses and warm them up before heading out into the small pasture that the fifteen head of cattle she and Cane have reside. She trots ahead to a clearing and stops the bay stud then placing her hand at the base of the small saddle horn she spins him to the right and then the left. When she takes off at a lope Tyson picks up at trot to catch up and to see what she is up to. Twenty feet off the fence her heels go down and her hand lifts just above the horn, the horse coming to a smooth sliding stop.

Once he is sure she is done with her fancy manuevers he trots up beside her, disbelief written on his face. She grins and pats the muscular bay neck. "He has been doing a lot better since I have been using the leg ques."

"If that is better I would have to sit on the ground to see best for fear of falling off of anything else," he comments with his own smile showing approval and a hint of pride in her.

She laughs. "I don't know about that."

The rest of the way around the pasture they ride side by side at a slow trot. When they make it back to the barn it is about eleven and the sun is high and burning anything its rays meet including the browning grass. They unsaddle and turn the two horses out with the others.

Jaelyn packs fried chicken, chips, salad and cookies in an ice chest and throws it in the back seat of her pickup before she and Tyson get in.

"So where are we going?" He asks.

She gives him a mysterious grin. "I have a few places in mind, but for sure one. You have your swimming trunks?"
