You weren't fazed by the loud sound of the buzzer as you along with several other students of U.A. charged into the gate. Much to your surprise the gate was quite narrow, but was proving to be the first obstacle of the race.

You suddenly heard the sound of crackling behind you and on instinct jumped, narrowly dodging what you now recalled as Todoroki's ice. He was running ahead and you could hear the frustrated sounds of other students who had their ankles frozen.

'Thank god I dodged in time!' you thought with a small sigh of relief. You didn't have any flashy quirk to show off and certainly one that would help you advance but you were quite strong physically.

"I'M NOT LETTING YOU PASS THAT EASY HALF N' HALF!!"

You whipped your head around, praying to god you didn't slip on the ice and saw Bakugo, Yaoyorozu and Kirishima all airborne and passing those who had been frozen.

Unfortunately you didn't have that much experience on ice, but it didn't take you long to adapt and slide across the ice.

Most of the other students from Class 1-A managed to dodge Todoroki's ice, not much to Todoroki's surprise.

"Multiple targets acquired."

You looked up, hearing robotic voices and were shocked to see large robots now stood in the path. "What the fu-?!"

"Every obstacle course needs obstacles! Starting with the first barrier: ROBO INFERNO!" Came Present Mic's voice on the loudspeakers.

"The zero point robots from the entrance exam!"

You didn't know these would be here! How were you going to get passed them?!

~~Todoroki POV~~

'I kind of wish they prepared something more threatening........Especially since dear old Dad is watching...'

I let the ice form on my right forearm, and with one swing I send a flurry of ice to the large zero pointers. Apparently these were used in the exams, but nothing too troubling.

I run between the large robots, hearing some people behind me thinking they can get through. "Come on! He froze them! We can get through!!"

"I wouldn't if I were you! I froze them in unstable positions! So they'll fall-" I stopped, remembering something.

'Y/n...!' She probably hasn't seen those machines before.......And her quirk isn't very good for an obstacle course.'

I turn around and sure enough, she has a puzzled look on her face, shielding her head as the machine starts to fall towards her.

Gritting my teeth I quickly run to her and tackle her to the ground. "Todo-!" she stutters with surprise, before I create a large ice shield over the two of us, blocking the robot from hitting us.

"Are you okay?!" I ask looking down at Y/n, noticing she had a light blush dusted on her cheeks. She nods, and I don't bother saying anything more as I let go of her and sprint back into the lead.

"Why did I do that......?" I mutter to myself softly.

~~Author POV~~

It all happened so quickly. First you were watching the large metal robot coming down on you. And the next, he was there, his heterochromia eyes staring into your e/c orbs.

Now you laid on the ground trying to catch your breath. Realizing you hadn't moved, you scrambled in getting up, continuing to run along with the rest of the students who had lost time with the robots crashing to the ground.

Still, you couldn't get the thought out of your head.

He saved you. He came back for you...

'Why? Why would he risk his life to save me?'

It was truly strange. You suddenly skid to a halt seeing the next obstacle. "Fall and you're out! You gotta crawl to make it across! The Fall!!" Present Mic announced.

Tsuyu from your class, being she had froggy features was already crawling across the rope with quite ease. Todoroki had already used his ice to get across the rope. You weren't really afraid of heights, but that didn't mean you didn't have a fear of falling.

Closing your eyes and taking a deep breath, you back up to get a running start and push off the cliff, shocking some of the other students.

When you open your eyes, you're already halfway across the rope, safely on one of the rocks. You do the same again, however this time don't make it the whole way, barely grabbing onto the rope.

"WHOA!! LOOK AT L/N GO!! WHAT A RISK TAKER! OW! SHE'S GAINING ON BAKUGO AND TODOROKI!!"

You smirked hearing this as you were able to crawl up onto the other side of the cliff and continue. Noticing that Todoroki was only a few feet ahead of you, you sprinted up to him, noticing there was a mine field ahead.

Now this, was no challenge. Being that you'd been stealing ever since you were little, you knew all about traps that weren't visible and being careful of mines. Todoroki noticed you next to him and his expression softened.

"Are you okay Y/n?" he asks, briefly looking at you before facing forward. This caught you off guard as you slowed down, but then hearing Present Mic snapped you out of it.

"Watch out for these land mines!They aren't deadly but are loud and flashy! Be careful where you step!"

And he was right, they were visible. Luckily you could use this to your advantage. Todoroki you noticed was slowly trying to avoid them, while Bakugo had caught up, and was now neck and neck with Todoroki.

'Shit! I need to gain the lead while I can!' You took the chance and ran. Stepping on the first land mine, an explosion was set off but with your quick reflexes you dodge the explosion, blinding the other two much to their surprise.

"DON'T YOU DARE TAKE ANOTHER STEP!" Bakugo roars as he sets off an explosion to your side making you wince. It really did hurt, your side now burning in pain.

"Fuck off!" you growl, about to use your quick when the largest explosion of all happened behind the three of you. Midoriya was on a piece of metal from the robots, soaring into first place.

"AND MIDORIYA HAS SURPASSED OUR LEADS! NOW THEY MUST STOP FIGHTING TO CLAIM THEIR FIRST PLACE!!"

You click your tongue in annoyance, desperately trying to catch up to them. You notice Midoriya starting to fall off the board, and make the mistake of lowering your guard as he slams it down onto the land mines in front of you, blinding you.

You fall back to the ground, wincing as you tried to gain back your hearing and vision. It was pretty blurry but that didn't matter, as you scrambled to get up, sprinting despite the screaming pain of your side from Bakugo and the fact you were half blind.

You could faintly notice the outline of the tunnel ahead hearing muffled sounds of the crowd cheering. There were three words you heard;

" FIRST......IZUKU MIDORIYA!!!"

You gasp, out of breath, hands on your knees as your vision is starting to come back and you see Bakugo and Todoroki just as tired, claiming second and third place. Which meant...

"Fourth place......Damn it!" you ball your hand into a fist, furious you weren't able to claim first place like you wanted.

"The top 42 will move onto the next round!" Midnight announces . "But for those who lower placed, don't worry! We have another opportunity for you to shine!" she turns to the board as it lights up. "Next up: Cavalry battle!" the neon sign reads.

"They will be members of two to four and get into a horse and rider formation!" she says. "You've each been given a point value based on the last race!"

'Looks like I'm teaming up with some of the people in my class.....' you thought to yourself, looking around. You told yourself to remember the quirks of the people in your class, successfully doing so with some of them.

"Your individual point values start at five, at the bottom! So the student who scored 42nd place will have 5 points, and so forth! But, our first place is worth......

"TEN MILLION POINTS!!"

And upon hearing that, the green haired male went pale, feeling everyone in that arena turn on him. You yourself had to admit, you were quite tempted to win those ten million points.

Midnight continued to explain the rules, with everyone itching to partner up with anyone but Midoriya and win those ten million. "The match will last 15 minutes. You will have one headband with the sum of everyone in your team's points, with your goal being to maintain your points and grab other people's headbands."

"But here's the catch! Even if your formation breaks, or you lose your headband, you're not out! It won't be over until time's up!"

"So there will be about 10 to 12 teams on the field the entire time..." Yaoyorozu says, deep in thought for a strategy.

"You will have 15 minutes to form your team, starting now!"

And with that everyone began to pair up with their friends and classmates, formulating a plan to win this. Most of the people in your class were swarming by Bakugo, who knew none of their quirks, not much to your surprise.

What caught you off guard however was the feeling of someone patting your shoulder. Quickly whipping your head around you were surprised to see it was none other than Todoroki.

"Y/n.." Todoroki bit his lip lightly. "Do you want to be a part of my team?" he asks softly.

You were........shocked nonetheless to see him asking you to be a part of his team. "R-really?" you ask, feeling a small smile creep up on your face.

Todoroki nods. He didn't know what it was but he enjoyed your company. Maybe he was asking out of pity? Whatever the reason it made him ask you and prayed that you said yes.

After a moment of silence, you nod slowly, "Yes. I'd like to be on your team." In all honesty you were a little surprised with your response.

It was a natural yes, with a natural smile, and wasn't forced to please anyone. You made your own decision....... and it felt amazing.

You cleared your throat, remembering he hadn't removed his hand from your shoulder. Todoroki noticed this and dropped his hand. "Sorry." he says, looking away and quickly turning his back. "Let's go. I have some other people in mind that I want to recruit."

You nod following behind him. Meanwhile, Bakugo was assembling his team as well, but his gaze was now locked on you and Todoroki.

'What the fuck? Half n Half recruited Y/n? Tch, what secrets is that bastard hiding....?'

He knew it wasn't a coincidence. The amount of time you had been spending with both Deku and Todoroki meant something, and it was an understatement to say that he was a little determined to figure out this mystery.

Back on your end, Todoroki had assembled Iida and Kaminari as well. He had wanted Yaoyorozu originally, but she was told to sit out due to an injury on her ankle from the obstacle course.

You looked at Kaminari and Iida, with Kaminari winking at you, causing you to back up a little closer to Todoroki instead.

"The reason I've chosen you all is because our formation will be the far most stable." Todoroki began to explain what their role to the group will be.

"Kaminari. You guard the left and keep the enemies away with your electricity. Iida. You take the lead. We'll make use of your mobility and physicality for defense. Y/n, you take the right, shield us and supplement our movement."

You nod, knowing that your quirk would be a bit more helpful now if you can throw off some of the leads in people's teams.

~~15 Minutes Later~~

You and Kaminari were in the back, with Iida in the front and Todoroki on the top, wearing the headband, your total point values being 680.

"Formed your teams? Battle plans? Well too bad if you haven't!" echoes Midnight's voice throughout the stadium.

"Three!"

"Two!"

"One!"

"START!!!!"
