war drums

Oh. My. God.

What just happened. I could not rap me head around it. Red and Arrow were alive. And so was their baby. They were all alive and had saved us too for the past months. They were the shadow. How.

"You're alive," I choked out.

"We are," She said.

She walked over and looked down at me.

"How you feeling?" She asked.

"Sore. Tired," I answered.

I was still in a daze.

"Arrow, can you carry the poor girl in?" She asked as she looked back at her husband.

He gave his usual warm smile and walked over to us. Red put her hand on Brison and Megan's shoulders and lead them both in. Everyone was in such shock, but Red and Arrow were so calm. They knew exactly what to do. They were obviously expecting this kind of reaction. Arrow swept me up into his arms for the second time tonight and carried me in. Paris stood aside holding the door opened for us. Once we were all in the warm lobby Megan, Dylan and Brison rushed over to the nearest sofa and sat down. There was a small table and several arm chairs. Red sat in one and placed her hands protectively over her stomach. Arrow placed me down gently beside Brison and sat in a chair close to his wife.

"Patricia would you place make us some of that tea. And if possible give Ellie something that well help her recover her. We'll need you all ready for Sunday," Said Red.

"What's Sunday?" Asked Dylan.

"Sunday we end this war," Said Arrow.

"How?" I asked in amazement.

They threw each other quick glances and they looked to us. With out a word, with had spoken. What did they say.

"We've put our lives on the line, abandoned our home and left our kingdom vulnerable to the witches. All we ask is that you trust us," said Arrow.

"I appreciate what you did for us, but I insist on knowing if it involves Ellianna!" Demanded Brison.

Red threw Patricia a firm glance.

"Please hurry up with that tea," she urged.

Patricia quickly slipped away into the kitchen to make this oh so important tea.

"Are you going to answer me?" He said growing angry.

"Brison calm down," said Arrow.

But Brison was not interested in talking to him. He was focused on Red. He knew she had the answer and that it was probably her idea to not tell us. Brison stood up abruptly staring straight at Red. She kept eye contact, but not because she was trying to antagonise him, but because she was nervous. Her mother instincts had kicked in and she saw Brison as a threat.

Oh god, Brison, I thought. Sit down. Down threaten her. He only took one step and Arrow shot up from his chair and gently began to push Brison back.
"Tell me!" He demanded.

"Brison sit down," He said calmly.

Where their parent instincts had kicked in, so had Brison's mate instincts. He had been so worried about losing me everything was a threat. But I trusted them. I also did not want him picking a fight with them. Despite the hostility radiating from Red, Arrow remained calm, yet firm. He did not want a fight, that much was clear, but I have seen this man get stabbed in the stomach for this child, there was no way he was letting Brison near his baby.

I got up and walked over to him, blocking him from seeing Red, so I could break their intense eye contact.

"Come on baby. Sit down," I said.

Suddenly there was a loud bang from the kitchen. Everyone beside Paris, Red and Arrow was surprised. A few seconds later, Patricia glided out with a try and several cups on it. Colourful smoke followed her. It faded away quickly and she continued on like nothing was wrong.

"Is everything okay?" I asked.

"Oh, I was just making tea," She said, setting the try down on the coffee table. She examined each cup, like she was looking for one in particular and then she found it. She walked over and held it out to Brison.

"I don't want any damn tea, their hiding something from me," He shouted.

"Nonsense. Drink up," She smiled, as she held it up to his face, allowing the steam and scent to take over.

His expression softened and he gladly took the cup and drank some of it. He quietly sat back down and continued to sip at the tea.

"I've had this before," He said in confusion. .

"I know. I gave it to you the first day you were here when you were arguing with Ellianna," She said.

"Is this one for me?" Asked Red and she picked up a deep red cup.

"Yes, that is your mug," answered Patricia.

"I have been dying for one of these, for a long time," She said.

Arrow picked up a blue mug with a big A on it, as he went back to his seat.

"What is in that tea?" I asked amazed at how calm Brison was acting.

"Just a little something to calm the nerves," She told me.

"And that bang in the kitchen. And the multi-coloured smoke?" Asked Megan.

"Well that was from my cauldron," She said.

"Your cauldron!"

"Yes. I'm a warlock," She said

"We both are. Sam isn't because she was born a girl and only those born boys possesses the power," said Paris

We were all silent. They were supernatural too. All this time.

"Do you know about...."

"You. Oh, yes. We know that you two are werewolves," She said looking at Dylan and Brison.

"How long have known?" I gasped.

"Since before you got here. Red and Arrow arranged the whole thing," she told us.

"How much are you guys responsible for?" I asked.

"Oh just about everything," answered Red casually, as she played with the red ribbon, tighed around her right wrist, the same one I saw the night of the ball when I first met her.

"Well..." I urged

"I concocted a plan as soon as Brison told me you were a human. I knew it would mean war, so that's what I prepared for. There were several complications with a war with the demons. One vampires were already at war with the witches and I didn't want to get them involved in a second war. If I wanted to take them down I would have to do it alone. And two, if they knew I was alive and out of the safety of the palace, several enemies would have come looking for me. I needed everyone to think I was dead, so I could fix this mess unnoticed. We found a witch from our secret police's most wanted list and captured her. We stabbed her, left her book open on a disintegrating spell and left two heaps of ashes with our crowns in it. As we didn't have our blood with the special potion that protected us from witches, people really believed we were dead. After that we followed you home from the vampire castle and killed all the demons attacking your house. When we realised that they had plenty of reinforcements, we had to do something that would eat up a lot of their time. So we decided to start a war. We went with the shape shifters as their princess was a pest and we needed to get rid of her anyway. We lead her to a field full small animals knowing she wouldn't be able to control herself and shift and then we lead Salem to the same field knowing he had a blood thirst for small animals and we let it sort itself out. Soon after the shape shifters declared war on the demons. I needed to find something that would help me end all of this, you'll find out Sunday what this is, so while I looked for that Arrow hung around the demons castle had picked up on all their plans. With the Prince "shadow" we just put pysin in the water. When the demons were planning an attack on the night of the football game, we planted a bomb. We wanted it to be just at the right time. When people began to leave the stand and get away from the tunnel, but that meant you would be running back into the tunnel. So I stole your pom poms to delay you and we were ready to let off the bomb. When the hunt for this thing that would help us became more intense, we couldn't be always there to come to your rescue, so I got these lovely ladies to make me a necklace with a spell, that alerted me if one of you were in danger, but one of you had to be wearing it. When things became more serious I needed to have you somewhere safe. Using my weather manipulation I used lighting to get into you school computer system and wipe out your other reservations and book here. It wasn't easy. I couldn't move for a whole day after it. I needed to keep you here, so I planned for my assistants here to make some of her special tea to delay you and then lock you in the rooms so you would miss your bus. She also gave everyone else an other kind of tea so they would forget about you. I also need you here as we will be going somewhere Sunday that will help us end all of this. It really wasn't easy. Especially with a baby on the way," she said, as though it were only a minor thing.

"Why did you do all of this?" Asked Brison.

"I made a promise," she replied.

"To who?" He asked.

"Back when the first werewolves came to this realm and this fued with the demons began, the vampires were at war. It was because they were at war that they were unable to come to the fairy princesses rescue. As they had failed to protect the fairies they promised to always look out for the werewolves. The princess made one important request of the vampires. That no matter what, the later generations of her people would be able to love who they wished without living in fear of the demons. They vampires swore they would fulfil this wish. I promised her to protect her people and those they loved because I already failed her once," she told us, with the up most sorrow in her eyes.

We all knew she was old, but we didn't know that she was that old. She had been in power since before werewolves existed. She finished her tea and got up from her chair. Arrow rushed to her side and helped her up. She was so big. I was amazed that she was able to do all those things and still have a baby inside her.

"I'm sore and tired. I'll need to rest if we're to end this in two days time. I suggest you finish your tea. It'll help you sleep. Goodnight," she said.

She found it hard to move. She was all stiff. She was a little wobbly. Arrow came up behind her and gently swept her off her feet. It wasn't like how he lifted me up. He carried me like he was just walking next to me. It was very casual. But with her, it was different. She wrapped her arms around his neck and rested her head on his shoulder. She couldn't see how he looked down on her and smiled. How he knew he was carrying his whole family in his arms. They were one person and together they were carrying that baby. He looked over his shoulder at us and whispered goodnight and at lightening speed vanished up the stairs.

Although that was very sweet, you could not ignore the reality. They were soft and kind and loving, but only to each other. That was never really going to extend outside of their little circle. They were a happy family and they had close friends, but as the last few months had show, they were ruthless killers. Merciless to those who stood in their way. Especially Red. And thankfully they were on our side. As clearly as Arrows heart was beating as it looked at Red, war drums were beating. They were back in the picture and the war came to light for what it really was. A blood bath. And we had almost won.
