the project
Hay. this is my first every time doing a story like this, so please, let me know in the comments how i'm doing.
*************************************************************************************
It was a warm, sunny day, and I had chosen to wear my favorite light blue demin shorts, flats and T-shirt with a faded American flag printed on it. I had loosely tied my hair back into a pony tale. I drummed my finger on the desk as I waited on our teacher to come to class. The door opened and my best friend, Megan, ran through the door. There has never been a day in my life that we were not best friends. Our Moms were best friends and so it was only destined that we would be to. She is not at all like me. She could not give a rats ass about school or grades. Her getting into college completely depends on the projects we do together. Our houses are just around the corner from each other, so we spend most nights at each others houses. She loves parties and drinking. The only thing she truly puts effort into is soccer. Im head cheerleader so that means, when ever she has a game, I'll most likely be going. We're never really apart. That is the way it has always been.
She was just in before the bell. She was early this morning. She darted to the second row to the desk, next to me. She dropped down nosily into her chair and slumped back, letting puff of air, in relief she was not late.
" Morning Elliana," She huffed, out of breath.
" You're early," I teased.
She turned to smile at me and I saw out messy her hair was and how red her face was. Shocked I asked.
" Did you run here all the way from your house,"
" You bet your ass I did. I'm not giving that old bitch the satisfaction of giving me a detention," She huffed.
I laughed at her. Just then the door opened and Mrs Clark walked briskly in, like a little duck. When she popped her head up, she was startled to see Megan. Megan grinned smugly at her.
" Good morning Miss Clark. Lovely weather don't you think?" She chirped.
" Just.............wounder full," said Miss mindlessly, almost as though she was a robot. She was just amazed that Megan was here.
Shaking her head she sat down in her seat and carried on as normal. She slid on her milk bottle glasses and slipped a pen behind her ear as she squiggled in her chair trying to get comfortable in her chair. Her eyes skimmed out notes on her desk that the principal had left her as she lifted her bag onto the desk. She opened up the big, old bag that probably had the same heavy, hipyish material as a carpet. She zipped it open and took out our test from last week. She plopped her bag back down onto ground. She stood up and walked out from around her desk and began handing out the tests as she walked down. A big fat A+ in red marker, written on the top right hand corner on the test. A smile crept on my face. I loved it when my hard work payed off. From the back of the room I could here the teacher, sigh with disappointment.
" Brison, you can do so much better then this please just try," She said as she placed the test in front of Brison and walked on.
Brison was loved by everyone for his, could not give a damn about school attitude. All the girls loved him and all the boys looked up to him. He grinned up at her, working his charm. His hair was jelled to perfection and you clearly see his six pack through his tight white shirt. His leather jacket sat lazily on his shoulders, almost as if, it was just happy to be there. He was a huge sports star and was approached by many colleges about a scholarship, but for some unknown reason, he always turned them down.
In a more aggravated tone, she dropped the test in front of Dylan. Dylan sat in front of Brison. They were best friends. Dylan was a giddy jock, who just loved pranking, partying and ditching class. He puts more time into try to get out of doing work, then it would take to just do the work. Dylan was second in command after Brison when it came to running this school and everyone was more then happy to just go with it.
" Next time attempt the test and not just leave it blank," She groaned.
She moved up along and slid Megans test in front of her, the grade facing down. That was never a good sign. But Megan did not see, as she had here ear phone in, listening to a soccer match on the radio. Her favorite team was Liverpool and because of the time differences between here in America and England, so she was most likely watching the first half, in the early hours of this morning and rushed to school during half time. She had her eyes closed so her full attention was on the game.
Miss made her way back up to her seat and once she was seated comfortably she took out a bowlers hat from her bag and the pulled out little pieces of paper from a zipped up compartment of her old bag.
" Now," she announced while putting the pieces of paper into her hat.
" I have had most of you lovely students, for a few years, and over those few years i have noticed that our class tends to stay in their little groups and not mix with the other students. So for this new project I have decided to change things around. I'll pull names out of this hat here and what ever two names come out together, are doing it together," She said.
" But miss,we've always picked our project partners," Said a student, who was just as worried about being separated from his friends as the rest of us.
" Well I have noticed that sometimes, one of the students are left doing all the work-" She said as she looked out over her glasses at me.
" And the other student dose absolutely nothing, but lay back and watch soccer- Megan Tracy are you paying attention to me at all?" She shouted as she dropped her hands defeated, onto the desk.
Startled, Megan jumped and placed her heart on her chest, from the fright.
" Is there a fire?" She asked in pure worry.
" Clearly not. Now shall we get started?" she said.
Still confused, Megan turned to me.
" Is there a fire?" she asked in a hushed panic.
" No," I laughed, shaking my head.
Miss pulled up her sleeve as if she her hand was going into another realm through that hat and a dangling sleeve would be too much of an inconvenience. Rummaging around the hat of names, she pulled out two pieces of paper.
" Mark and Stephan," She announced.
The two boys sighed with relief and high fived each other. Miss went on and on, calling out two names each time and then diving right back into the pool of names. Some students groaned and other cheered. It was down to the last four and neither me or Megan had our name called out. There was still hope that we would be put together. For the second last time, her hand dived into the hat. Rooting around as if there were thousands to choose from. All the while, Megans, face twisted into worry. What ever she was listening to was important. I could see her sit up and her face become more and more nervous. Her hands were in such tight fists that they had gone white. Miss was just as focuses on the names she was about to pull out. And then she did it. Her and whipped up, with two pieces of paper. Just as she did, Megan gave a very quiet shriek of anticipation. This was it. I was so nervous.
" Go on," I heard her mutter with passion as she lightly shook her hands.
Miss opened up the first piece of paper and read.
" Megan and," She said as she dropped that piece of paper and went for the next.
Both me and Megan leaned forward for the very last result. Our faces twisted with nerve for what was to come next. My heart was beating so hard. I could not do a project with out her. I have never done anything with out her. Only God knows what or who else I would be put with.
" Dylan," She said and with that I let out a defeated sigh and sunk down into my chair. But unfortunately for Megan who had not been paying attention to what was going on. Jumped up out of her seat, screaming and howling in happiness.
" YES. COME ON. SHOW THOSE BITCHES. YES. YES," she screamed jumping and punching the air.
Once she calmed down and realized where she was, she blushed bright red and shuffled back to her seat awkwardly. Everyone in the class stopped and stared, including me. I really did not see that coming. Once she was back in her seat, miss coughed and shook her head, trying to get back in focus.
" Well moving along," she said.
She quickly popped her hand in and whipped in back out again. I was so busy worrying about hearing our two names, I had not payed attention to any one else, so I had no idea who was last with. Miss opened up both pieces of paper.
" That leaves, Eliana and Brison. Alright class, you have until this date next month and the topic is volcano's,"
I looked back over my shoulder to see Brison starring at me. I gave him a small smile to break the ice and he smiled back and then awkwardly blushed and looked to the ground. And at that very moment I felt a weird twist in my chest. Almost like heat. It made it hard to breath and focus on anything. With out meaning to, I started to smile. And I could not explain why.
