Book: From the Dark Side: Stories as Told by Disney Villains

Amethyst: Welcome to the last interview of the Campfire Awards 2.0! Before we begin, I would like to congratulate you on winning 2nd place in the Humor category! How are you feeling?

Han_banana21: Thank you! I'm feeling pretty good, I was definitely not expecting that win.

Amethyst: Your story is quite a unique story as it tackles on the villain's perspective ^_^ I really enjoyed it❤️

Q: What inspired you to write a story about Disney, but in the villain's perspective?

Han_banana21: I think the idea came after I saw the movie Wreck-it-Ralph because of the scene with the villain support group, so I sort of got the idea from there. I've always loved Disney and wanted to create something silly and humorous that took a twist on the stories we all know and love.

Amethyst: It is nice to be able to see all the characters' perspectives to get a better understanding of their story.

Q: Did Ivory have to resort to killing her own blood sister to get what she wants?

Han_banana21: Ah great question! lol no, there were definitely other ways she could have handled that situation.

Amethyst: That is true >.<

Q: Ivory knew how she mistreated Ella, but what stopped her from undoing her action?

Han_banana21: Probably stubbornness. She sort of used her own daughters as a way to convince herself it was never her own fault. But in the end, she does realize that things could've gone better. The book leaves it up to interpretation for if she does go back and talk with Ella.

Amethyst: I kind of understand Ivory's perspective as it's hard for some people to undo their wrongdoing. It takes a lot of courage to be able to do that❤️ I hope she'll have a good relationship with Ella soon.

Q: Do you think that if Disney included a scene when villains will realize their mistake and apologize to the main characters would make the story better?

Han_banana21: That is a great question! Most of the time in these disney stories, the villains meet their end and the MCs come out victorious which isn't always the most realistic. Having the villain apologize could make the stories feel a bit more like real life but then again, a lot of time in reality, there is no closure or apologies. So I think it would depend. These characters typically go through a lot of emotional damage and confronting that could be challenging even if it meant getting an apology from their villain.

Amethyst: Well said! Sometimes it is hard to apologize/get an apology and would normally shrug it off, forgetting about it and reconcile like nothing happens (I'm guilty of this one, especially verbally saying it *sweatdrop*). I suppose that in Disney princesses, the main purpose is to see the main character grow as a person, so it would be awesome to see the villains growing too. Which I only became aware of after reading your story, so thank you ^_^

Han_banana21: You are welcome! I'm so glad and I totally agree, it would be great to see the villains grow as well.

Q: There are stories when a character declares that if they can't have the person they love, no one else can like what Han's did. Does resorting to this option help ease the said character feelings?

Han_banana21: Yes, I think it's sort of a justification that makes their actions seem valid to themselves. For Hans, he was using it as a justification for his actions so that he wouldn't then feel guilty about what he was doing.

Amethyst: Oooo. Understandable.

Q: Which Disney villain story that you wrote did you like the most?

Han_banana21: I think Ursula/Ariel was my favorite! But I also had a lot of fun writing Gaston/Belle. I feel like Ursula and Gaston are similar and they both had some of my favorite lines I've ever written.

Amethyst: They are pretty similar in terms of their story >_<

Q:How did you come up with the content of the non-villain oath?

Han_banana21: It was a little bit inspired by the speech in Wreck-it-Ralph lol, but most of it came to me spur of the moment I think. It's been a while since I first wrote the book.

Amethyst: Hahaha it's alright. Sometimes the brain cannot store the past events, so it's easy to forget XD

Q: What's the moral of the story that you would like to portray in "From the Dark Side: Stories as Told by Disney Villains"?

Han_banana21: I want people to understand that we all have faults and we all do bad things, but it is important to recognize our mistakes and the roles we play. That change won't come overnight but it is an ongoing process to work on.

Amethyst: ❤️

Q: What's your goal as a writer?

Han_banana21: My goal is to write stories that people will enjoy. I would love to be published some day with my original works.

Amethyst: I hope you will attain your goal ❤️ We have reached the end of our interview. Thank you for taking the time to have a chat with me! I hope you enjoy the rest of your day \(^_^)/

Han_banana21: Thank you! And you as well ❤️
