I Think We're A Couple.

Keith and Lance walked into homeroom to a bunch of stares and whispers. Everyone went silent.

"What's going on? Why is everyone staring at you?" Keith whispered.

"Oh my god that's like the line in High School Musical when Gabriella is in the cafeteria and-"

"Shut up!" Keith whispered.

A red-headed girl walked up to them with her phone. She held it in front of their faces.

"So, my cousin David went to this summer-long camp in Altea and guess who his counselors were?"

Keith swallowed. "So? We were his counselors. I didn't know Lance would be working there."

"Honestly, I didn't want to work there." Lance lied.

"That's funny." The girl said. The class giggled. "Because my little cousin said that you two were openly gay."

"Yeah? Well now we're closeted gay!" Lance retorted, holding up a finger.

"Christ." Keith muttered. "You just outed us."

"Oh." Lance said, lowering his hand and scratching the back  of his head. "I did do that, didn't I?"

"Welcome to the outed world, I guess." Keith said.

"So are you two going to make out and go to homecoming together?" She taunted.

"Whose wearing the dress?!" One kid in the back of the class laughed.

"WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON HERE?!" A  petite mess of short-hair and anger burst into the room. "WHO DO I NEED TO KILL?!" It was Hannah, Lance's non-binary friend with an attitude.

The red-headed girl looked nervous. "Oh... Hannah."

"What are you up to, Allison." Hannah spat.

"Nothing."

"Really?" She slapped the phone out of her hand and watched it fall to the floor. "I hope you had one hella good case because I'm not paying for your shit phone."

Seth, the gay theater nerd came through. "'Scuse me, bomb squad coming through. Hannah, I'm supposed to defuse you."

Hannah held up two middle fingers. "Fuck all of you gossiping ass wipes!"

"Aaaand that's the curtain call, sweetheart." Seth said, pulling Hannah away by her wrist.

The teacher walked in five minutes later. Allison's phone was fine but Keith and Lance sat together in silence in the corner, everyone too afraid to look at them after Hannah's wrath had been unfurled upon them.

"Why's everyone so quiet?" Their teacher asked. No one said anything.

When the bell rang, everyone filed out, leaving only Lance and Keith.

"So." Lance began. "What do we do now?"

"I guess we just embrace it." He shrugged. The teacher disappeared and he leaned in to kiss Lance. "I still love you."

"I still love you, too."

---

Hannah was changing in the boy's locker room now after about two weeks of fighting and a school board meeting. They had a tight chest binder on, which honestly made them flatter than the fat asshole guys with their man boobs. Anytime Hannah would get an off comment of stare, they'd go off at them- so no one messed with Hannah. Honestly they needed some help with the whole anger management thing.

"So." Seth started. "You're... you know... out."

"Yeah, but keep it down." He whispered. "I don't want to the locker room to know."

"HEY GET BACK HERE AND SQUARE UP WITH ME IF YOU WANT TO TALK ABOUT MY FRIEND LIKE THAT YOU FAT APE!"

There was Hannah. After a few more choice words, they walked back through the rows of lockers in the boy's locker room to where Lance and Seth were.

"Okay, so some bad news- everyone kind of knows." Hannah said. "But good news- I've been waiting to kill my first human for a while now."

It unnerved both Lance and Seth that she was referring to killing a human in specific.

---

Lance, Seth, and Hannah were running a few laps of warm-ups around the track when he noticed Keith flipping through a book under the bleachers.

"Hannah, can you cover for me? I'm ditching."

They gave a thumbs-up.

"HEY! COACH!" They turned to Lance. "I'm telling him you have diarrhea. It gets you out of anything."

Lance cringed but needed an out so he agreed.

---

Keith was looking through a picture book.

"Hey." Lance said, ducking under the bleachers. "Didn't feel like going to class?"

Keith shut the book and looked up. Lance sat beside him in the grass.

"I don't feel like doing anything." He sighed. "Here. I got a note saying that yours was still in the works."

"My what?"

"Allura made photo albums for us." Keith responded. He scooted closer to Lance. "Look- Me, you, us, Hunk, capture the flag, us covered in paint, Pidge hanging from a tree- right when she pulled my hat off of my head- everything. Everything that was so innocent and good. Here- Matt took that picture at the campfire where he made us hold up tampons." He paused "Why did we have to leave?"

Lance looked to see a single tear rolling down Keith's face. He kissed his cheek.

"I love you."

"I love you and I want this to work."

"Then it will. We just have to make it through today and wait for the hype to die down. By tomorrow, no one will care that we're gay."

"I don't know. Do you think we should take a break?"

"Keith, I want what makes you happiest. You don't need to do anything, hold my hand, talk to me- just because we're dating doesn't mean you have to make some giant romantic gesture."

"Yeah."

"Then we're good."

---

Biology came and they talked about human anatomy- the reproductive organs.

"Men and women's bodies were designed to interact with each other in order to produce offspring."

Lance was drawing in his notebook while Keith sort of paid attention.

"Men and women were meant for each other."

The ginger girl from homeroom laughed. "Yeah, men and women."

"You know what, Allison?" Keith said, standing and knocking over his lab stool, he picked Lance up by the collar and kissed him. Hard.

Oh yeah, what did Lance say about romantic gestures?
