Announcement
A/N: Hey all! I've kind of gone from rehab straight to getting ready and then heading to camp so updating has been hell but I'll try and be better about it!
This story is based on the camp outs that we do here at camp!

When the boys bought their campers to the dining hall, Allura and Shiro were smirking, whispering in hushed voices. Shiro cleared his throat.
"Welcome Blue and Red packs."
Lance elbowed Keith and whispered. "See, my pack comes first"
Keith rolled his eyes and in turn elbowed Lance in the stomach. "Shut it, McClain."
The packs ate and talked and the dining hall was loud and busy as usual. Keith usually assigned the tasks between who would wash the table, who would scrape the dishes in the compost bucket, and who would take the dinnerware to the table. Lance just usually shouted, "NOSE GAME!" and immediately put his finger on his nose and effectively get out of ever having to do the dirty work.
This time however, Keith turned around from his table as Lance was busy recounting some dumb story when Keith shouted "NOSE GAME!" and Lance lost. He tried to protest but Keith shrugged.
"Your rules, not mine."
Lance begrudgingly wiped the table.
--
When the tables were clear, Allura stood on a bench and got the camper's attention.
"We are excited to announce that tonight we are all having an overnight camp out! When we finish here you can all go back to your cabins and take a moment during free time to pack for dinner and a night in the woods! "
Everyone murmured excitingly and Lance and Keith both noticed a couple of the counselors looking at their tables and smiling. Well shit- it looked like everyone was in on their secret. Allura was hiding a smile too.
"When did they announce this?!" Lance asked, whispering to Keith.
Keith shrugged "I don't know- maybe we were in the boat house that staff meeting."
Ah, the boat house.
Matt however, also seemed surprised but played along.
Allura continued, "Counselors, send one of yourselves and some campers to bring a crate and pick up the food for dinner and breakfast from the dining hall at the end of free time and make sure that your kids have enough clothes for the night into tomorrow.
"Shape packs, you will be staying on Iroquois campsite, Number packs- Arrowhead, and Color packs, you will be on Pine."
Pine- let's see. That sounded familiar. Was that close by? No. Not really. It was in the woods North of the lake though.
The packs were dismissed to free time and the campers walked back as fast as possible, talking about bringing cards to play card games and having a campfire of their very own. Lance, Keith, and Matt, however, tagged along behind.
"I'll take some of my campers with me to get supplies." Matt offered. The boys agreed.
"Works for me." Keith replied.
Back at their lodge site, Keith and Lance were making sure that their kids had everything they needed for their unexpected camp out.
They let their kids play when they were done, watching them play tag and laugh, pushing each other in hammocks. It was nice to see them so excited.
Matt returned with a backpacking pack and the kids carried milk crates full of supplies.
"Let's head out soon so we can get the fire going and start dinner."
--
After the campers got their backpacks and sleeping bags, and Matt, Lance, Keith got the materials, they headed out towards the Pine campsite. It was further than they felt like walking but their kids seemed to have boundless energy.
They arrived after what was only a fifteen minute walk. Keith had taken the daunting task of carrying a 4 gallon water can (A gallon of water is 10 pounds.) Meanwhile, Lance carried the tents on his back and put the cooking pot on his head announcing that he was Johnny Appleseed, which made Keith want to smack him with it.
Matt and his kids carried the first aide kit and food crates. They set down their supplies outside of the campfire pit and put their stuff down. Lance distributed out the tents and tarps. Keith helped fill some of the kid's water bottles.
In about thirty minutes, all of the groups in the pack figured out how to set them up and Matt checked and fixed them. Keith and Lance set to work on getting the fire started.
"Hey boys! Campers!" Lance shouted out, gathering their kids attention. He continued. "If you guys want food, we need LOTS of firewood. That means lots of thin twigs and a couple if thick sticks. Whoever brings the most gets an extra s'more."
The kids ran off to start gathering sticks. Lance got up to the wooden bin that housed the pre-chopped fire logs. Keith pinched the bridge of his nose.
"Lance-"
Lance set down three cut logs.
"What?"
"You never told the kids how far they could go."
Lance shrugged, "Tough shit. It'll make them stronger."
Keith looked away. "You're an idiot."
--
The kids returned with enough firewood to last a decade. Lance decided that his favorite camper brought the most sticks and then they sent the kids off to go play or some shit- basically get out of the way.
Matt returned with an armful of sticks.
"Where have you been?" Keith asked.
"Out watching the kids. Lance never told them for far they could go."
Keith smacked Lance's arm. "Told ya."
--
They had never seen so many boxes of spaghetti before. Matt poured most of the water into the cooking pot and took the pan out of one of the crates. They had a gallon sized bag full of spaghetti sauce, which Matt set down, still zipped, in the pan by the fire.
Lance and Keith arranged the wood.
"I've got a fire starting kit in my bag, here." Matt announced, pulling out a bag with toilet, paper, cotton balls and some other stuff. "Don't use all of the paper though- some people may need it."
"Gross." Keith said.
They tucked some cotton balls under the sticks in the center and searched through the bag.
"What's this?" Lance asked, holding up a thin cardboard tube.
"A tampon." Matt replied.
Lance threw it in the ground. "WHAT THE FUCK?!" He shouted.
Matt laughed and Keith shushed him.
Lance threw it at Keith. "Ew. I don't want it!" He said, scooting away from it.
"They light up really fast." Matt shrugged.
Eventually, Matt was the only one daring to touch it. He called the boys wimps.
To everyone's misfortune, they could not get the fire to start and their grill lighter was pretty much out of fuel. Keith took out a zippo and they had success for a moment but that burned out pretty quickly.
"I got this." Lance declared, taking out a can of areosol bug spray from his bag.
"What are you-?" Keith started, having Lance take his lighter.
"LET THEIR BE FIRE!" Lance shouted, flame throwing the lit bug killer spray flames into the pit.
Well, it worked.
Keith's jaw was still dropped. He turned to Lance. "You're an idiot!" He shouted, but there was fire and all was well.
Matt set the iron grate on the fire and they set the pot on to boil. 10 minutes went by, 15 minutes, 20, 30- finally the water was boiling and they unpacked the boxes and boxes and boxes of spaghetti. Matt poured the bag of sauce into the pan and set it by the fire to heat up.
After a while, Lance fished out a noodle from the pot with a spaghetti ladle.
"You know, they say that if your spaghetti is ready, if you throw it at a wall and it sticks- you're good to go."
"Well we don't have a wall-" Keith said, a noodle smacking him on the face.
Keith glared at Lance as the noodle slowly fell off and stared him down a second longer.
"Oh shit-" Lance started, but Keith had lunged at him and the two boys started cursing and wrestling on the ground. Matt kept shouting that there was a fire and to knock it off but it wasn't over until Keith was straddling Lance's back with a fist on the back of his head yelling "EAT DIRT MCCLAIN!" Then Matt stopped them.
Lance wiped his nose and they cooked dinner in silence. When it was done, they served it to each kid and sat around the fire, eating. They had s'mores and when it finally got dark, the kids were setting up their sleeping bags and getting ready for bed.
The fire burned down to embers.
Matt walked back to the fire.
"I hope you don't mind, but they kids wanted to mix up packs and I gave them the okay." Lance shrugged.
"It's cool. I mean, we have our own tent, right."
"Yeah." Matt nodded. The tiny one.
Finally they stomped the fire out and followed their flashlight beams to the tent. The set up their places, Lance by the exit, Keith in the middle, and Matt in the back. Keith and Lance didn't mind sharing with Matt. They were too tired to try and start anything, anyways. They fell asleep quickly.
Around 11 pm, one of the campers tapped on the tent door.
Lance unzipped it. "Hey buddy, what's wrong?"
"I can't sleep, I'm scared." Lance got out of the tent. "Can you sleep in our tent for a little bit." Lance yawned and grabbed his pillow.
"Sure." After about five minutes, Lance was back asleep.
Another tap on the counselor tent woke up Keith. He unzipped the tent and looked out. It was another camper, a different one, but one of his own, from the tent Lance was in.
"What's up?"
"I had a nightmare but Lance won't wake up."
Keith rolled his eyes. "Yeah, I bet." He grabbed his pillow and unzipped the opposite side of Lance's tent.
It was cramped, but it didn't matter because everyone fell back asleep.
--
In the morning, Matt was cooking a ridiculous amount of pancakes on the large pan they had used the night before.
Keith came out to the fire pit.
"Been up a while."
Matt nodded. "Yeah, I don't mind. The kids don't like waiting."
Pretty soon the campers had their water bottles refilled to empty the heavy water container and they had pancakes with chocolate chips. They were sleepy which made them easier to manage and withing the hour they were headed back to their pack site.
"Did you have fun?" Lance asked one of his campers. He nodded. "Good." Lance replied.
Lance walked over to the hammock Keith was reading in. "Hey." he said.
"Hey." Keith replied.
"So." Lance started. "You owe me for last night."
"What?" Keith asked.
"You and I had a whole night together and we didn't do anything, so- you owe me."
Keith pointed out that Lance slept first.
"Fine. Lance agreed. I owe you."
He looked around to see if any of the campers were out but they were all in their cabins so he bent down and kissed Kieth's cheek.
"That doesn't count." He said.
Keith smiled and went back to his book. "Okay, McClain."
