Code Yellow!
A/N: Luke is based off of a camper I had who had Autism. He was homesick for a few days and couldn't cope very well before the incident. No police came, but he did get a chance to talk with his parents on the phone, which most campers are not allowed to do.
More Camp Voltron fluff in the next chapter.

Lance put on his camp polo shirt because it was a Friday. He rounded up his campers and walked with Matt and his pack for breakfast. Luke held on to Lance's shirt. Lance put an arm around the boy.
"Ready for breakfast, Bud?" he asked. Luke nodded, chewing on the collar of his shirt. "Good because it's cinnamon rolls today."
Luke smiled. Breakfast was a hit. How could kids resist a total sugary meal? Lance picked up his clipboard out of his bag. He flipped through the pages, looking for Luke.
Luke McKay 06/12/2008
Allergies: Eggs, Almonds, does not like cheese unless it's melted
Favorite Food: Cheese Pizza
Parent's note: Luke is a very happy but very shy boy. He is the youngest of 5 brothers and this is his first year away at camp. He did a few day camps growing up but this is a big step. Luke is an orange belt in karate and a rock wall climber like his father. Something important to note is that Luke has autism, which usually effects his social skills. He may be homesick, if so encourage him to write a letter home. We have sent him with his blanket.
Strengths: Problem solving, running, climbing, being kind
Weaknesses: Communication, swimming, easily overwhelmed
Hmm. Lance tucked his clipboard back away.
"Keith-" Lance said, tagging Keith as he walked past with a bowl of cereal.
"Yeah?"
Lance lowered his voice. "Did you know I have a camper with Autism?"
Keith shrugged. "Is that a problem?"
"I don't know what to do!" He whispered.
Keith frowned. "Dude- we had a week of training, I'm sure you can cope. If it gets crazy, call me on the walkie."
Lance thought for a second. "'kay bye."
Keith laughed. "'kay bye."
After breakfast, both shape packs headed for the challenge course. They had to move between three platforms with only two planks of wood and then a challenge with a rope swing where they couldn't knock over a water bottle in the middle. Finally, the kids got harnessed up to climb the climbing tower.
Lance and Matt belayed the kids up the rock wall. To no surprise, Charlie lost a tooth while he was climbing, put the tooth in his pocket and spat a mouthful of blood toward the counselors below. Once every kid made it up and back safely, they regrouped and walked to the dining hall.
It was hot dogs, which were hard for Charlie to eat. Keith was keeping the kids entertained. Lance stood up quickly, eyes wide.
"Where's Luke?!" he asked, looking at Keith who stood up suddenly. They looked and counted all of the kids and tables and then rushed to Allura.
"We're missing someone."
Allura's face dropped. "Go get Shiro." She said, picking up her clipboard. Lance rushed over to Shiro who was standing in front of the kitchen window, talking.
"Shiro, we have a code yellow."
Shiro stopped talking to the kitchen staff. "Go to the counselor office and start handing out walkies. I'll get the dining hall under control."
"Roger that." Lance said, running out through the doors of the dining hall.
Allura had set the siren off. The dining hall must be chaos, Lance thought. She was already in the office, handing out maps and walkies.
The counselors took a look at their section of map to check. Keith and Lance grabbed a map. They had Cabin Row.
"We have ten minutes NOW." Shiro called over the radio. If the staff couldn't find a camper after ten minutes, they had to call local law enforcement.
"Copy." Hunk said.
"Copy." Matt said.
"Copy." Keith said.
"Copy." Pidge said.
Lance rushed through the Diamond cabin, searching under the beds and under sleeping bags. "Copy. Diamond Cabin clear."
"Copy."
"Circle Cabin clear." Keith said.
"Star Cabin cleared."
"Main lodge clear." Matt said.
"Boathouse clear." Hunk said. "We're checking the water now." He and another lifeguard dived in and searched the water for Luke.
"Color Pack Cabins clear." Keith said, gasping for air.
"No one on the floor." Pidge said.
Lance's eyes widened when he heard that.
"That's it! Keith- stop looking- I know where he is."
Keith looked at Lance in confusion and picked up the walkie. "Uhhh Lance thinks he knows where Luke is."
"Where?!" Shiro demanded.
"Pidge- get to the challenge course. He's a climber."
"Copy."
Lance and Keith took off towards the woods.
"Luke! It's Lance- can you make a sound or show yourself?!" He shouted, swatting branches away while they ran in, making their own path.
Silence.
Pidge was trying to unlock the equipment shed to grab a harness but Lance started climbing anyways.
"Lance- what the fuck are you doing?!" Keith shouted. Lance looked at his watch.
"We're at 9 minutes!" He shouted below. Shit. They almost had to call the police. When Lance got to the top, he found Luke sitting, cross-legged.
"Hey buddy." He said, hoisting himself up onto the roof of the climbing tower.
"Didn't feel like going to lunch today?" He asked.
Luke shrugged. He had been chewing on his shirt. "I wasn't hungry."
"Okay but you need to stay with the group."
"They were too loud."
Lance bit his cheek. "Give me a minute." He picked up his walkie. "I have him."
Luke was laying down on his back, looking up at the trees now. Lance lay down next to him. "You know, I read that you're quite the climber."
Luke smiled. "Yeah. I'm good at that."
"You know you almost gave me a heart attack?" Lance asked.
Luke bit his lip. "Yeah, I'm good at that too."
"Do you hide a lot?"
"Yes."
Keith made it up to the top.
"You're making my job a lot harder, McClain." He said, setting two helmets and harnesses on top of the tower. "Can you two get harnessed up now?"
Lance looked at Luke. "Ready to go to lunch, buddy."
Luke shook his head. Below them, Pidge was belaying Keith. Shiro, Allura, and Coran were waiting on the ground.
"Well I'll tell you what-" Keith bargained. "If you show us how to get down, we'll place a call to your mom and dad and tell them what a good climber you are and then we can get some food and you can go to art."
Luke sat up. "Okay."
Wow- it was that easy?
"Here." Lance said. "Step in here and then-"
Luke laughed innocently. "I know how to put on a harness- I do it every week!"
Lance handed him the harness and put his hands up. "Alright- show us how it's done."
Lake strapped himself up and clipped himself on the line. Pidge belayed him down, followed by Keith, and then Lance.
Shiro was talking to Luke on a log bench. The kid nodded a few times and then smiled. He raced over to Lance and looked up at him with his big, blue eyes.
"I'm going to talk to mom and dad!"
"Awesome!" Lance said, hi-fiving the boy. "Let's go do that."
Allura met them in her office. Lance had his hands on Luke's shoulder as he waited while Allura called his mother. She handed the phone to Luke.
"You've got two minutes." She said.
"Hi mommy." He said. Then there was silence. "Yes, I made some friends." More silence. "No." Another pause. "No." Finally his face dropped. "No, I want to stay at camp." He nodded. "Yes, I promise. I love you."
He handed the phone back.
"I'm hungry." He said looking at Lance and Keith.
"Let's go grab some lunch."
