Chapter 25
"Where is Chiron?" Artemis asked calmly, and Elizabeth spoke softly.
"My allies are warning him about our latest findings. He's probably at the other side of camp, so it should take them some time," she explained, trying not to trip over her own tongue.
"Very well, but this is not the reason why I came," Artemis said, I blinked.
"Then did you come? N-not that we're ungrateful!" I stuttered, and a hunter behind Artemis spoke up.
"Lady Artemis heard some nasty rumors about her chastity. That she was the godly mother of some demi-god named Amara Shine. Do you know her?"
"Uhm," I mumbled, "I am Amara Shine...so, hi?"
"Oh...that's quite...okay," the hunter replied, flushing with red.
"Wait all of this because of some rumors by the Girls of Aphrodite? All the way for this?" Thomas asked, confused.
"I do not take these rumors lightly, because they soon spoil, and people start believing them. Even when it's utterly dumbfounded," Artemis said, glancing at me, "so no, Amara is not my daughter by any means."
"Oh thank the Fates!" I sighed, relieved, "Do you even know how stressed these rumors were making me? Those Girls of Aphrodite were driving me mad!"
"Okay now that we got that out of the way," Elizabeth cleared her throat, "I guess this is not the only reason you're here. I know you better than that, Artemis,"
"Alas, I also did not come alone," Artemis replied bluntly.
"Yeah you brought of your followers," Thomas said, pointing to the bunters behind the goddess, "that's pretty obvious,"
"No, Artemis is hinting at someone else, dummy!" Elizabeth snapped under her breath, elbowing Thomas.
Then Artemis glanced at me and mouthed, I'm sorry and I truly tried, look. I could see such despair wretched in her eyes. She looked sorry for me for some reason. I wanted to ask more when Artemis yelled a name.
"APOLLO! Get your butt down here!" she shouted up at the sky. A gleam of light flashed at our eyes, shortly blinding us. Great, now I'm fully blind even with my glasses! After we managed to collect ourselves, we noticed a man in his twenties like Artemis. He had tanned skin, and blond hair like Artemis, the guy was also holding a harp and was wearing fancy cloth. I think it's called a tunic. Kind of pointless if you ask me since it looks pretty thick.
He also had green eyes that strangely looked like mine but green. His eyes also glowed a powerful aurora, like Artemis, meaning he was a god. The famous god, Apollo. He grinned ear to ear.
"What's up, sis?"
"I held my part of the bargain—"
"Hello ladies," he chuckled at the hunters. Artemis frowned and grabbed Apollo by his tunic.
"My hunters are off-limits, remember? Go flirt with a guy for all I care, leave my hunters alone," Artemis said, rolling her gray eyes. Apollo laughed.
"You haven't changed one bit, Arty!"
"Don't call me that," she snapped, clearly looking a bit embarrassed. Then Apollo turned to me, and I gulped.
"Oh...hi?" I squeaked, my voice cracking. Gee, two gods in a day? What else can happen?
"You must be Amara Shine, hmm, you're taller in person," Apollo replied, and seemed to be scanning me, "you're lacking speed, and social skills, and have trust issues."
"Excuse me?" I stammered, stunned. Elizabeth and Thomas coughed, whispering in each others' ears.
"But you do have some friendship skills....lovely, high intelligence, good health..." Apollo murmured, looking at me from head to toe. Finally, I snapped. Rightfully so!
"Okay, why the heck are you staring at me like that?!" I demanded hastily, frustrated.
"I thought it was obvious—"
"The girl clearly doesn't know what you're talking about, brother," Artemis scolded, sighing.
"Well?" I asked, burning with curiosity.
"You're....my daughter," Apollo explained quickly, and I heard a chime above my head. There was a faint sun symbol above my head, shining in the dark night. I dropped my jaw, dumbstruck. No. Flipping. Way. What kind of cursed plot twist is this? Take it back!
"What the actual hell?" I gasped, my voice cracking. Crap.
