Chapter 11

I walked back to Cabin #11, dreading it the second I stepped in. I glanced at Cora who was humming and reading her book. She looked up at me, seeing me drenched. Cora was about to comment and ask, why the heck are you wet, Amara? But then she remembered how we left it and went back to reading. I trudged down the cabin, hoping nobody would notice that I was treading water all over the floor. From the corner of my eye, I saw Thomas and other demigods getting ready for the day. I know they weren't paying attention to me, at least I hoped so. But I knew in the back of their minds they were thinking, Wow, Amara's such a loser. And, why should she even be here if she's just going to make mistakes? And why bother with her anyway? I'm only doing this out of pity.

That's how I felt, all the eyes were on me, like eyes staring from the back of their heads. Then I saw Leah, who noticed my soggy outfit. She said nothing to me and continued to brush her hair. I was about to walk away when she said something to me.

"Here," she said remorsefully, tossing me a blue towel, "you'll need that,"

I didn't know if she was being nice and sweet or mocking me. She sounded a little bitter.

"Thanks," I mumbled, trying to be polite. Try. That's a word I always do, I try to please people. It's never what I want or what I need, it's me trying all the time.

I scurried off to the changing room, changing back into my clothes from yesterday. I'm back to boring now, I suppose. I stuffed Alecia's dagger in my pocket before walking out, seeing Thomas staring at me. It was kind of creepy if I'm being honest.

"What?" I asked.

"Sooo,"

"So what?"

"You're not going to talk about how you ran out of the cabin, at five in the morning?"

" THOMAS, THAT'S NOT HOW YOU GET SOMEONE TO OPEN UP," Elizabeth yelled, pushing the door of the cabin. Whoa, was she there all the time?

"Uhhh," Thomas said, "morning, ghost girl?"

"Don't morning, ghost girl me. You're such an idiot," she groaned, walking in. Can Elizabeth just walk into the cabin just like that?

"I was just making small chat!" he protested, flinging his crutches around like a maniac.

"Watch where you're swinging those!" Leah argued, popping into the conversion.

"Did we ask?" Thomas shot back, annoyed, "Keep your nose out of our business,"

We all finished up and made our way to the feasting hall. I grabbed a tray and fished out for food. I got more baby carrots( what? I'm a sucker for them!), and some plain bread. I passed by the shrines, taking a glance. I stopped, bending down. Huh, what's that green stuff dripping down the side? I set down my tray and peered closer to one of the rocks. It had a lightning bolt carved into the center of the rock, this shrine must be for Zeus. I wanted to touch the green liquid but was scared it would harm my skin if doing so.

"What 'cha doing over there, Shine?" a voice loomed over, I turned around.

"Oh, Hannah, I wasn't expecting to see you here,"

"Good morning, where are your manners?" she teased, and I blushed.

"Oh, morning, Hannah,"

"C'mon, let's go have to breakfast," Hannah chuckled, swooping me up. We walked away, leaving my question about the green liquid...

We stalked around the feasting hall, trying to find an empty seat.

"Hannah!" a voice yelled, it was Lucas.

"What do you want now, I already paid you back your twenty dollars!" she groaned as we walked to his table.

"You were five cents off the deal," he nodded earnestly, and I snickered.

"Five cents and twenty dollars, what's the point?" she shrugged.

"Because I forgot to pay a loan to Isa!" he argued, shuffling his goat legs.

"Who's Isa?" I asked, and Hannah shrugged again.

" Daughter of the goddess, Eris. Always a troublemaker, making dumb loans to people like Lucas,"

"Hey, she does make good deals!" Lucas nodded as we sat down.

"What are you eating?" I asked Hannah, as she dipped her spoon into a golden cup. It kind of looked like expired yogurt with some weird fruit inside.

"Ambrosia, want some?"

"Looks a bit gross," I shuddered, Lucas and Hannah dropped their spoons in utter disbelief.

"This is rich stuff! Only a large package comes once a week. ONCE A WEEK!" he hollered, I quickly nodded.

"Uh huh, understood!" I yelped, and Hannah grabbed another spoon.

"Try it,"

"What?" I replied, " I'm not eating that, you just ate that! Germs, people, GERMS!" I yelled, raising my fork like a maniac.

"Try it, it'll please your taste buds," she repeated, I sighed, puzzled at her comment. And I reluctantly dipped my spoon in it.

"If I get sick, I'm totally blaming you," I muttered, taking a small bite. Huh, it's actually like yogurt.

"Well?" Lucas asked, " What does it taste like?"

"I dunno, I think I tasted it before," I mumbled, taking another bite, "it tastes like dough. And also really stale, yet warm and chewy. I...I remember this taste before,"

"Okay?"

"It tastes so familiar, I swear, it's on the tip of my tongue—"

"Amara, watch out!"

I turned around to see a ball smashing into my face. I fell off my seat, knocking myself to the ground. My head was spinning and I touched my nose. Blood, lots of blood.

I closed my eyes, resting.

"Did you like the ambrosia?" the voice said, I shot up. I was in the black void, again. There was a woman but her face was blurred.

"W-what?" I groaned, standing up, only to fall again.

"Sit my child, rest up," the voice smiled, it was the female voice from school. Her voice was so smooth and sweet.

"Where am I?"

"I—I do not know. But it is peaceful here, is it not?" she asked, "I believe I can contact you through your mind,"

"WHAT?! WHAT THE—"

"Ahem," she coughed, "please keep your voice down,"

"Sorry,"

"You know, I also quite never seen a power like this. You can't interact with a goddess with your mind,"

"You're a goddess?!" I exclaimed, and she nodded.

"Indeed, let's not get into the details," the voice replied, I nodded. This seems weird. She sat down with me, chatting.

"How can I talk to you in my head?" I asked, "I'm still new to this stuff but I'm pretty sure reading minds are out of my base."

"My family says I give them guidance and I seem to pop in times when you need to seek advice," she replied, I scoffed nervously.

"I don't need any help!"

"You are quite arrogant, Amara. Don't be so proud,"

"Fine," I grumbled, "so when can I go back?"

"I am not too sure," the goddess admitted, "I, of course, can go anytime I want, it's you who I'm afraid of. This is your mind and your void,"

"So I'm basically unconscious and if I wake up, that's when I'll get out of here?" I asked, shrugging.

"It appears so," she said, "I need to go now, farewell,"

I waved as I saw her flash away. Then suddenly, I heard a voice.

"Amara, can you hear me?" Hannah's voice repeated, and I gasped. I was back.

"Oh thank goodness, I thought you were in Hades already!" Lucas sighed, smiling.

"Someone get her a doctor!" Leah's voice shouted, I turned my head to see Leah and Jarvis.

"What happened?" I asked groggily, turning back to Hannah.

"Genius, over here," she scolded, glaring at Jarvis, "threw a basketball at you—"

"IT WAS A MISTAKE!" Jarvis bellowed, and I moaned. Great, it was him.

"How am I not dead yet? A basketball would probably kill me since I'm so crummy,"

"I don't know, but your glasses are broken. Like super broken, and your nose is bleeding like crazy onto your shirt," Lucas added, I glanced down. So much blood on a WHITE shirt.

"I'm so dead," I groaned and flopped back onto the bed.
