Day 2: June 30 (Tuesday)
~ Mario's POV ~
"Wake up, everyone!" Elliott, my cabin's counselor says loudly as he enters the cabin. I groan and rub my eyes.
I wasn't able to get a good amount of sleep since Bowser stayed up until around 2 a.m, blasting heavy rock music from his mPhone, which was attached to a speaker. The music was VERY loud. Waluigi and I both struggled to fall asleep, while DK had simply put on a pair of headphones that seemed to block out all of the noise.
"All of you, take a shower and be done by 7," Elliott instructs us. Right now, it's 6 a.m.
I glance at my cabinmates. Bowser looks grumpy as always. Waluigi looks as tired as I do, and DK seems like he rested peacefully.
"I'm going to shower first," DK announces, getting some clothes from one of his bags and heading into the bathroom.
Waluigi goes into the bathroom right after DK goes out. I decide to shower after Waluigi.
Once Waluigi is done, I head to the bathroom. However, Bowser blocks my way.
"Excuse me," I say.
"Why should I?" Bowser asks coolly.
"I'm gonna shower now," I reply.
"Too bad, wimp. You're going last," Bowser looks down at me with a smirk on his face. I'm rather short compared to him.
"Alright, you can go before me if you want," I state flatly.
"Go cry in the corner now," Bowser says before slamming the bathroom door shut in my face.
What's his problem?
~ Toadette's POV ~
I'm pretty sure Peach and Daisy hate each other.
It seems like they know each other outside of Camp Tanooki, and they don't get along... AT ALL. I've been in the same cabin as Peach and Daisy for almost a whole day and they either completely ignore each other or can't stop arguing.
I'm just sitting on the rug in the middle of the cabin and reading one of the books I brought from home when Peach decides to sit next to me.
"Hey, Dettie," she says. She has been calling me that since yesterday and if I want to be her friend, I have to tolerate the weird nickname.
"Hi," I close the book I'm holding and place it on my lap.
"Poor Toadette," Daisy plops down on my other side. "I bet she finds that nickname annoying. Do you?"
"Umm..." I glance at both Peach and Daisy, slightly unsure of what to say. "It's okay, I guess."
"She likes it, see?" Peach glares at Daisy. "Why do you always jump to conclusions? And by the way, you weren't invited to be a part of this conversation!"
"Why do you always think everyone loves you?" Daisy shoots back.
"You're so weird, I can't believe we're cousins," Peach crosses her arms. Daisy turned to me.
"Pity Peach," she says rather loudly. "She's completely oblivious to how annoying she is."
"Hey, I heard that!" Peach snaps.
"Maybe you were supposed to," Daisy replies smugly.
"Daisy, this is why no one likes you," Peach ties her shoelaces as she speaks.
"At least I have actual friends!" Daisy rolls her eyes. "Your only friends are the plastics and the teachers." I decide to leave the bickering cousins alone and I retreat to my bed.
Do I seriously have to deal with this for eight weeks?
~ Boo's POV ~
Our breakfast today is bacon and scrambled eggs. All of us campers eat at a long picnic table, which is in the forest clearing we were in yesterday. Predictably, Bones and I sit next to each other and ignore the other campers.
It's a good thing we were assigned to the same cabin because if we weren't... I dunno what would happen. I'm just glad I have my only friend with me.
My other cabinmates, Toad and Wario tried to talk to Bones and I a couple times, but we either had a dull response or none at all. I guess they gave up on talking to us and befriended each other. I don't really care, honestly.
I decide to glance around at the other campers. I know I said I wouldn't talk to them, but I never said I wouldn't glance at them from time to time. Jeez.
We are all literally so awkward. The boys sit on one part of the table and the girls take the other. So, I guess Bones and I aren't the only unfriendly ones here.
There's only one group where there are people of both genders. That group consists of Daisy, Diddy, Koopa, Luigi, Mona, and Yoshi. All of them seem to be having a good time, but I notice that Luigi is just quietly eating. Oh right, he's a shy guy. I remember that when he was introducing himself yesterday, he seemed extremely nervous. But, who am I to judge?
Birdo, Dixie, and Pauline make up another group. I'll call them the girly girls. All I hear from that group is giggling and talking about topics that would never ever concern me.
DK, Toad, and Wario are sitting together. And are they talking about... Sports? Typical guys. I know I'm a guy too, but I don't talk about sports. Or girls. Most boys my age usually only talk about those two topics. I don't understand why.
Peach and Toadette are sitting together as well. I bet they're talking about nerdy stuff. I know that Peach is a nerd because of all those awards she claimed that she received last year. And Toadette seems like the kind of person who's a nerd, but wants to fit in. I'm sure you're wondering how I know that. Well, I know lots of different kinds of people and I can infer things from first impressions. I'm not trying to brag but if you think I am, that's okay. I seriously don't care at all.
Another group consists of Mario and Waluigi. They look extremely tired and I have no idea why they chose not to sleep last night. But hey, it's not my problem.
Rosalina and Tiny make up a group. They look similar in a way since they are both blue-wearing blondes and are both kinda tall. But, Tiny seems to do all of the talking and Rosalina is just nodding along.
Bowser is... Sitting alone. He just glares at everyone, eats, and minds his own business. If I were a normal person, I'd be wondering "What's up with him?". However, I'm not a normal person and I'm not concerned by whatever Bowser is doing and why. So, too bad for you.
And of course, Bones and I make up the last group. But, you already know about us. And if you don't, then I'm not gonna waste any more time telling you stuff.
Soon, breakfast is over and everyone heads to wherever the first activity of the day will take place.
~ Pauline's POV ~
We've been walking for what seems like forever. My cabin and Cabin E are going somewhere, but none of us know where. Not to mention that I'm not talking to anyone.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate anyone here... Yet. I've already made friends, but they're both in Cabin F. Rosalina and Tiny are my cabinmates and they're okay, I guess. I've talked to them a few times. But, they're better friends with each other than with me.
And believe it or not, I already have a crush on someone... Yes, I know it's only my second day here, but it's true. I just hope he likes me back.
I also hope I don't have any competition. But come on, who else would possibly like a guy with brown hair, blue eyes, and that is a little muscular...? Okay, fine. A lot of people have the same preferences as me. I'm sure my crush has a lot of admirers already. Although those admirers better not be in Camp Tanooki.
"Girls, we're almost there," My counselor, Tiffany informs my cabinmates and I. "Just 30 more minutes of walking!" WHAT?! I'm so exhausted that all I can do is quietly groan. This walk better be worth it.
~ Koopa's POV ~
After walking for about an hour, we arrive at a beautiful lake. No one's here and we have the lake to ourselves.
"This is part of Camp Tanooki's property," Adam informs my cabinmates and I. Wow, that's great!
We sit down on the grass and the people who brought cameras take pictures of the awesome scenery.
"This is so freaking cool," Yoshi murmurs.
"And now, we'll have our first activity," Adam says. "All of you must choose what you want your cabin name to be."
"Aren't we Cabin E?" I ask, puzzled.
"That's our name now, but we have to decide on a new name," Adam replies. "It's kind of like a team name, in a way."
"Hmm... Foodies!" Yoshi exclaims.
"Summer Tide Surfers?" Diddy says.
"Gold Medallists," I suggest.
"Laugh Addicts," Diddy pours a bit of water onto himself in order to stay cool.
"Fruit Punchers?" Yoshi grins.
"How about Good Vibes?" The shyest of our cabin, Luigi asks. We all look at him, impressed.
"Luigi's idea is cool," Yoshi says.
"I like it," Diddy comments.
"I do, too," I reply.
"So, we'll be known as Cabin Good Vibes?" Adam questions. My cabinmates and I nod.
We're Cabin Good Vibes, and we won't let you kill our vibes.
~ Birdo's POV ~
Our counselor, Stephanie leads us to another forest clearing. There are targets set up and bows and arrows lay on the ground. We're doing archery?
"Girls, our very first activity at this camp is archery!" Stephanie exclaims enthusiastically, answering my thoughts. "Pick up a bow and arrow!" Dixie, Mona, and I do what she tells us to do.
"I hate this place," I hear Dixie mutter softly. She has said that numerous times already and it's only the second day at this camp.
"Now, stand back for now while I demonstrate how to play," Stephanie says. "Have any of you tried archery before?" Both of my cabinmates and I shake our heads.
"I've always wanted to try it, though," Mona replies.
"That's good!" Stephanie grins.
She explains how to properly hold the bow and release the arrow, along with other things to know about archery. Stephanie demonstrates everything more than once and makes the bullseye each time she releases the arrow.
Soon, my cabinmates and I try shooting an arrow ourselves. Only Mona's arrow actually lands on the target, even though she doesn't get a bullseye. But, that's still pretty impressive for a first try.
At first, I find archery frustrating because I can't get any of my arrows on the target. But, I eventually get the hang of archery and think it's fun.
An hour passes quickly and we soon leave the area to have lunch.
I told you I would update this story again soon! Starting the next chapter, each chapter will take place every other day in the camp. That means the next chapter will be Day 4, the one after it will be Day 6, and so on. Thank you to those who are already reading and liking this book. I was a little nervous about publishing it. So yeah umm I hope you like this chapter even though it's significantly shorter than the pervious one. Anyways please add, comment, vote, etc. Thanks!
