Chapter 10
"I already answered that question," Alex mumbled, wrapping his arms around John's waist.
Laf raised his eyebrows. "No, you did not."
"Um, yes I did!" Alex insisted.
Herc spoke up. "We know you answered, Alex, we just want you to answer TRUTHFULLY!"
Alex's face turned bright red. "Shut up," he muttered.
John sat up straighter than his sexuality. "Give him a different one, guys," he said. What was going on? Did Alex...nah.
"Fine," groaned Laf. "You still want a truth?"
"No thanks!" Alex said quickly.
"Dang it, we can't do much with John sitting on you!"
"I can get up for the dare, if you need," John offered.
"Ok, thanks!" said Herc. "Alex, we dare you to play the rest of the game in YOUR boxers, too!"
"Uh, ok." John got up, and Alex started stripping down. John had to stop himself from watching.
"Ok, I'm good," Alex said a minute later. John turned around and they sat down again.
"I'm bored of this game," sighed Laf. "Can we just play Confessions?"
"Sure." All the guys were getting kind of tired of Truth or Dare. Then Herc jumped up.
"WAIT!" he shouted. "We should do our S.O.'s!"
"S.O.?" said John, confused.
"Sneaking Out," Alex explained. "We do it every year. Basically we run around camp as noisily as we can, pass by Washington's cabin, and head back here without being caught, in the shortest amount of time possible, of course. Not meaning to brag, but I win every year!" He grinned. "My record time is 1 minute 37 seconds!"
"Um, ok," said John. "That sounds fun, I guess." Then he thought of something. "Can Alex and I at least put on clothes?"
"If you must," Herc sighed.
Once Alex and John were changed back into their regular clothes, the boys headed over to the doorway.
"I'll go first, as always," said Laf, as Alex pulled up the timer on his phone.
"Ok, ready? GO!" Laf took off, deep into camp. He took a sharp left, and all of a sudden, the boys heard screaming.
John jumped. "Is he ok?"
"Yeah," Alex replied. "He's just trying to make as much noise as possible."
2 minutes and 5 seconds later, Laf sprinted back to their cabin, and wheezing.
"Time!" he coughed.
Next, it was Herc's turn. He took the same route as Laf, but Herc didn't return for several minutes. Then, all of a sudden, they saw TWO figures trudging back to the cabin. It was Angelica, dragging Herc by his collar.
"HA!" Alex yelled at him. "YOU'RE OUT!"
Ang groaned. "How many left?"
"Two."
"Ugh. Fine. Just wait until I'm back in my cabin. I'll text you when I am," Ang said.
"Ok."
The boys stood around making small talk while they waited for Ang's text. Alex suddenly looked alarmed.
"Oh my gosh, John, your hand as purple! Are they always that cold?" he said.
"Uh, yeah," John responded, blushing s little.
"I'll make them feel better," Alex said. Then he grabbed John's hands in his own. And the two of them stood there, just holding hands.
It was very nice.
They were shaken back to reality by a ping of Alex's phone.
"Yes! My turn!" he cried. "GOODBYE, MY LOVE!" Alex shouted dramatically over his shoulder to John. Then he took off running.
Herc and Laf slowly turned their heads to John.
"Soooooooo," said Herc. "Your hands a little cold?"
John turned red. "Shut up!"
Laf smirked. "FYI, Alex did say you were cute."
John rolled his eyes, but his face started burning. Did he really?
A few seconds passed.
"Oh, he also said he likes you," added Herc.
Well, THAT was enough to make John turn to ice.
"W-what?" he stammered. "No he didn't!"
The two boyfriends laughed.
"Whatever you believe," said Laf, shaking his head.
Alex rounded to corner of the cabin and slapped the doorway. "Time!"
Herc stopped the clock. "It's a new record-1 minute, 22 seconds!"
"Yes!" Alex pumped his fist in the air, then turned to John and smiled.
"Your turn!"
Dang it, thought John. He's cute like that. Talking through his panting and sweat, he looks like an athlete, kind of. Crap, do I like him?
John was able to push those thoughts away, however, when he positioned himself to run.
"And...GO!" Laf called to him.
John sprinted out into the campgrounds and took a left. This was nice. He hasn't been out running in a while.
Oh, no! John thought. What if I'm not fast and I embarrass myself in front of Alex? I better not!
John passed by Washington's cabin, then realized he was supposed to be making noise. John started singing the ABC's terribly at the top of his lungs.
A few seconds later, he found himself near the cabin. With once last burst of speed, John pushed himself forward and collapsed against the doorway.
"Time," he gasped. John looked up to see the three boys staring down at him, their mouths hanging open in awe.
"You didn't tell us you were a world-class runner!" cried Herc.
"What do you mean?"
"56 seconds! THAT'S WHAT WE MEAN!" Alex shouted with amazement.
Laf just stood there, too shocked and impressed to say anything.
"Oh. Thanks," John said, blushing and standing up.
"We should get some sleep," Herc said, still staring at John incredulously.
"Yeah, good idea," Alex agreed, not taking his eyes off of John's face.
The Revolutionary Crew all got drinks of water, then climbed into their beds. John could hear Alex, viciously scribbling away in his notebook. He smiled and turned on his side. However, just as John was falling into a doze, he heard a ping. It was his phone; a text from Alex. John quickly went into his messaging app and read the text.
Hey, John, Alex had sent. Just wanted to let you know you're an awesome person. It's been such an honor knowing you for the past month. I can't wait to have more adventures together. Love, Alex.
John's face turned red and hot. He grinned and switched off his phone, settling down for the night.
Little did he know, Alex didn't send everything he had wanted to. Just as he was about to hit the button, Alex had deleted the words: Yes, I did actually say you're cute.
