Day 1 of Many

The next day, I woke up reluctantly at the exasperating sound of my alarm.

What I learned now long after that, was that the cabin was pre-stocked with a lifetime of supplies. So after a long inner debate, I decided to have a bowl of cereal for breakfast before getting ready and heading out the door; managing to successfully dodge Parker.

I met Tilly at her cabin at 7:15, just as we had planned the day before, then headed to the canteen.

Surprisingly, we weren't the first ones there, even though we'd been 10 minutes early. Lacey and her entourage were there, along with a couple other faces I had yet to recognise.

Andy caught our attention at 7;30 on the dot, explaining that he would call out our names and direct us to a specific group; sport, music, arts etc.

Unfortunately, Tilly and I were not put into the same group; she was put into the 'Art' group, explaining that she would be doing arts and crafts just as she had been in previous years.

I, on the other hand, was put into the sports group. For a second, I was extremely confused as to why I was put into that group.

I can't even run the length of myself.

But then I remembered, my mother most likely commented on how I used to play field hockey; 5 years worth of experience. Not to mention I participated in competitive kick boxing for 4 years, only stopping at the start of the year.

Even so, I hadn't done either of those things for months; years even, and that doesn't mean I'm athletic - they must be really desperate for sports coaches.

"Ivy Lane, correct?" The women sitting at the desk asked, quickly glancing at me before looking back down at the page.

"Yes."

"Okay Ivy, it says here that you done mixed martial arts, so you will be leading that class along side Mr Jones-"

Jones? Haven't I heard that name before?

"As well as helping out with the field hockey practices, led by one of the senior staff members.

Here is your schedule, those highlighted in red are you mixed martial arts classes, green is field hockey, blue is life guard duty-"

"I haven't got any life saving experience though, why would you place me by the pool?"

"Because you will get your training this week and we're low on staff. Now, what was I saying? Oh yes- and lastly yellow is your free time slots."

Looking at it, there were an overall of 8 yellow slots out of 113, over a course of 2 months.

Perfect.

"Since your already trained in mixed martial arts and field hockey, your going to spend today going over those and the rest of the week taking the qualifying tests to become a life guard.

There's a map on the back to tell you where to go."

"Okay- oh sorry, one last thing. That name you said earlier, Mr Jones? Who is that? It sounds really familiar to me."

"Well that's probably because he's your bunkmate; His full name is Parker Jones."

Fucking super.

"Oh. Thanks." I mumbled.

I can't seem to escape this guy.

"No problem, next!" She shouted, eyeing me to leave.

I trudged over towards Tilly, hoping she had lifeguard duty as well;
She didn't.

Apparently she has asthma and physically can't be a lifeguard.

I am so jealous!- that she doesn't have to be a life guard- not because she has asthma.

"I never knew that." I stated, shock evident in my voice.

"Yeah, well it's not that bad, that I'd have to use my inhaler after walking a certain distance; it only ever acts up when I do exercise or get to stressed. The latter usually leads to a panic attack." She explained.

"Panic attacks? Really? God I hate those, I had a really bad one last year; scared my mom half to death." I laughed lightly.

"Yeah, they're pretty rare for me. Only happen because I get scared of how bad my asthma could get- and well, over thinking can be one nasty SOB. Although when they do happen it takes me a while to recover, mentally I mean."

"How so?"

"After my last one, I didn't talk for two days."

"Holy crap, isn't that hard?"

"Yeah, but like it said, they rarely happen." She pauses before subtly trying to change the subject; showing she was starting to get uncomfortable. "Anyway, what training do you have first?"

"Kick boxing in centre C." I groaned, rolling my eyes.

"You do kick boxing?!"

"Yeah; my dad used to be a cop and he was really protective so he made me take a class and taught me a few extra things."

"Omg that's so cool." She gushed.

"Thanks." I laughed. "What about you?"

"Arts and crafts in centre A, then drum lessons in centre F."

Add that to the list of things I know about Tilly;
• Nicknamed 'Bambi'
• Used to be friends with the She-devil.
• Has Asthma.
• And can play the drums.

After talking with Tilly a few more minutes, filling her in on all of my activities; not forgetting to mention the whole Parker problem, we had to go our separate ways and get to training.

10 minutes of blindly searching later, I finally find Centre C.

I didn't know what I had expected; but whatever the hell it was, it wasn't this.

In centre C, there was nothing but mirrors for walls and a pile of exercise mats in the corner.

Not to mention there was a severe lack of people; a total of two other guys were there.

One of which was-

"I think you've got the wrong building; dance class isn't until 9." Parker droned on beside me.

"I'm not taking a dance class you sexist fuck- is this the mixed martial arts training or not?" I snapped.

"Your here for mixed martial arts?" He cocked his eyebrow in disbelief.

"No, I'm here to skydive." I said sarcastically.

"Yes, this is the mixed martial arts training. Sorry about him, he can be a bit grumpy sometimes. Ivy right?" A voice from behind said.

As I turned around, I immediately recognised him as Felix.

"Yeah, Felix?" I smiled hesitantly.

"Yeah, so what kind of mixed martial arts are you into?" He asked.

"I'm trained a little in pretty much everything, but my main one is kick boxing; competed competitively for four years." I smiled.

"Really? That's cool, have you won many medals then?"

"Yeah, I was world champion in my weight category 3 years in a row." I smiled proudly, thinking of my dads reaction every time I won.

"Impressive." He smiled.

"You?"

"Ah, I dabble a little in Ju Jitsu and kick boxing- was taught right here actually, along side Parker of course." He smirked, patting Parker on the back.

"Yeah, but you started two years earlier than me and I can still beat your ass." Parker smirked.

"Oh, your on." And with that, they lunged at each other.

Obviously they weren't taking it seriously although I have to say I found it extremely pleasing when Felix would get the upper hand and rough Parker up a bit; even if it was lightly.

"Boys!" A voice shouted from behind me.

I turned around to see a small African American women, with amazing hair I may add, looking frustrated.

"How many times have I told you two to stop? Your leaders now, you have to be responsible and set good examples for the children."

Immediately the two boys were on their feet, looking to the ground and mumbled a quiet, guilty 'sorry'.

"Now, who might you be?" She asked, turning to me with a friendly smile.

"Ivy, I was told I would be taking classes here?"

"Ahh, Yes. The newbie; well, usually we'd like to see what you can do by completing a little sparring match but because we don't have any more female trainers, one of the boys will have to do."

"You want me to fight one of them?" I asked bewildered. It's not that I hadn't sparred a guy before but I had usually known them longer than day.

"Yes, don't worry it's only semi-contact; they'll barely touch you. Now, which one of you will it be?"

The two boys looked at each other and before I knew it, Felix had shoved Parker forward and ran towards the door.

"I gotta pee, he can do it." He shouted, a smirk playing at his lips.

The women, whose name I realised was Helen from her name badge, looked over at Parker with a amused expression.

"Fine." He groaned. "But don't complain when I win." Asshole.

With that he trudged towards the corner to get a few mats.

"Alrighty then; do you have any gear or do you need some?" Helen smiled.

"Umm, I didn't know I would need any so could I just borrow some gloves?" I asked hesitantly.

"Of course, you sure you don't want any shin guards or head guard or anything like that?"

"Don't think I'll need it." I smirked, Parker still out of ear shot.

"Okay, here you go." She winked, giving me the gloves. "Do me a favour and knock some sense into him, will ya?"

"Sure." I laughed, setting the gloves beside me and warming up a little.

After setting up the mats and finishing my warm up, I found myself circling the mats facing a concentrated Parker.

"You should just give up now; no ones ever beat me." He snarled.

"Well, that's about to change." I said, charging toward him delivering a few punches before catching him off guard with a kick to the side.

"What happened to semi-contact?" He gritted his teeth, suppressing a groan in pain.

"I don't know about you but I never agreed to that." I smirked, dodging one of his punches.

"Fine, full contact it is." He said, faking a right hook and throwing a round house, which narrowly missed my head.

Before his foot even touched the ground I was on him, throwing as many punches as I could but only successfully landing two.

I've got to admit, he is good; just not as good as me.

The fight lasted another two minutes or so, both of us landing a good few punches and kicks to the other before I got my last kick in, sending him to the ground.

As he stared at me in shock, I couldn't help but feel proud of myself; I felt as though I had proven that I wasn't as frail as I looked.

"Well done sweetie!" Helen shouted.

"Really H?" Parker groaned, shifting his eyes from me.

"Sorry hun, but I was getting tired of all your gloating." She laughed, offering a hand to help him up.

He took a second to brush himself off before looking impassively at me.

After a few seconds, he raised his hand. "Good fight, your better than I thought you'd be."

I stared at his hand before shaking it. "You too."

With that, he turned towards the door and shouted, "Felix, get your ass in here we need to go over the schedule!"

After Felix finally decided to grace us with his presence again, we discussed who would be taking classes in what days and what we would be doing.

By the time I left there, it was already 9am and I still had to go to field hockey training and life guard duty.

This is going to be a long week.

A/N

Okay, so I know this update is a day late but in my defence, I was out all day yesterday-

I went to go see the new Thor movie, it was AMAZING, I definitely recommend you guys go see it.

-then went to my friends house and came home to watch the fight on tv and by that point it was like 1am. Then today I went out for a family dinner at like 3 (there was like 30 of us, I felt so sorry for the waiters) and am only home now, 7pm.

So yeah, that's why the update was late. I now have to go try and draw something for art because I forgot to bring my painting home and my teacher is going to kill me.

But, don't forget to vote, comment and share.

Until next time,
Byeeee
