Just as I was about to take my shoes off, on the  cliff edge there I see: A girl with bunched up hair here before me

As Y/N made her way along the worn dirt path, she came to a stop near the edge of a cliff. She took a deep breath and reached down to remove her shoes; When the sound of soft sobbing echoed to her left.

Despite myself, I go and scream:

"Hey, don't do it please!"  Y/N regained a standing position and looked to the source of the noise. There, sat with her legs dangling off the cliff, was one of her campers. With her green hair pulled back in its usual bunches, Nikki sat crying silently to herself; Looking as if at any moment she would push herself forward. Without hesitation, Y/N quickly ran over to the silver tree haired girl.

'Whoa, wait a minute what did I just say? I couldn't care less either way. To be honest, I was somewhat pissed; This was an opportunity missed!' The older female thought, taking a seat next to Nikki.

The girl with bunched up hair told me her woes; You've probably heard it all before:

"I really thought that he might be the one but then he told me he was done." Nikki cried, staring out into the horizon.

Y/N narrowly avoided the feeling to roll her eyes; A few days ago, it was announced that the green haired girl had been dating a well known science nerd. But the way everyone found out, was Neil's public break-up at breakfast.

'For God's sake, please! Are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason, you got here before me!' Thought the H/C haired female before saying, "Are you upset cause you can't have what you wanted? You're lucky that you've never gotten robbed of anything!"

"I'm feeling better, thank you for listening." Nikki wiped her eyes and shuffled back away from the cliff. The girl with bunched up hair then disappeared, heading down the path leading to the camp.

|||TO DAVID|||

David watched as Nikki came running back into the camp area, he noticed the slight red puffiness around the young girl's eyes which contrasted with the widening smile on her face.

With his own eyes, David assessed the clearing of which Nikki had came in from; There appeared to be no one else there, but someone must of talked to Nikki to make her come rushing back in such a manner.

After around five minuets, he watched as his fellow counsellor walked slowly into the camp; Her E/C eyes flickering around the area, as if searching for any source of humanity.

"Y/N! You're back from your walk!" David exclaimed happily, giving her the Camp Campbell salut.

The female gave him a weak half-hearted smile, before continuing her way back to the Counsellor Cabin; Her H/C hair tied back in its usual pony tail swaying from side to side slightly as she walked. {A/N If you don't have long enough hair for a pony tail, pretend you do}

David furrowed his eyebrows in confusion as he slowly lowered his hand back to his side. He soon shrugged it off and went back to watching over the other campers.

|||Time Skip to that night|||

Later that evening, as David was making sure all the campers were safely tucked up in bed; Nikki sat up when he approached the tent she was supposed to share with Nerris, but the elf-kin had been locking herself in her tower for the past few days and was constantly absent from the tent.

"Hey David?"

"What are you doing awake Nikki? Lights out was over an hour ago." David sighed as he made his way inside the tent, having to crouch slightly to fit.

"I know, but I was worried about Y/N." Nikki admitted quietly.

David quickly looked at Nikki, his face wore an unfamiliar look of seriousness as he spoke to the young girl, "Why? Is something wrong with her?"

Nikki told him everything; About the whole ordeal with Neil. About how she had gone to the cliff and gotten ready to push herself off. About how Y/N had been there to talk her down. She managed to do this before breaking down into quiet uncontrollable sobs.

David's expression softened and he quickly pulled the green hair girl into a hug, "Hey, shhhhhhh. It's okay. But Nikki, I need to know; Why are you worried about Y/N if she talked you down?"

"B-Because why w-would she be a-at the cliff i-in the fir-first place?" Nikki choked out, wiping her eyes with the back of her small hands.

David allowed her words to set in, and continued to think while he hugged the small girl; Gently patting her back in a comforting way.

|||Time Skip to the next day|||

//

"Alright, today's the day!" Y/N said quietly to herself, once again approaching the cliff.

Or so I thought. Just as I took both of my shoes off, there was but a girl short as can be.

Straight ahead of the E/C eyed counsellor sat a small figure draped in a cloak with a small cone-shaped hat sat on her head.

Despite myself, I go and scream:

"Stop!" Shouted Y/N, ditching her shoes behind her as she ran to Nerris.

The petite girl told me her woes; you've probably heard it all before:

"Everyone ignores me, everyone steals. I don't fit in with anyone here..." Nerris sighed, taking off her hat and staring at it with a blank face, vacant of any expression.

'For God's sake, please! Are you serious? I just can't believe that for some stupid reason, you got here before me!' Y/N found herself thinking before speaking to the small girl, "Cause even so, you're still loved by everyone at home. There's always dinner waiting on the table, you know!"

"I'm hungry." Said the girl as she shed a tear. The girl short as can be then disappeared after placing the cone hat back onto her head, following the same path that Nikki had gone down the day before.

//

With a sigh, Y/N stared out into the horizon. "Not today, I can't let Nerris have the guilt of being the last person I talked to." And with that, she turned away from the cliff and walked back to the path, grabbing and putting on her shoes as she got to them.

|||TO DAVID|||

David watched once again as another of his campers came rushing back through the clearing that headed deep into the woods.

Like Nikki, Nerris's eyes seemed irritated with the reminder that the youth had been crying but the smile that was slowly forming on her face said otherwise.

Patiently, David waited to see if Y/N walked through the clearing as she had done yesterday. Sure enough, roughly five minuets later: The H/C haired E/C eyed female walked into the camp, her face a void of no emotion.

"Y/N! I wanted to talk-"

"Not now David, maybe tomorrow?" Y/N cut him off, and continued to walk straight to the Counsellor Cabin.

David sighed in defeat, "Okay."

|||Time Skip to that night|||

Like clockwork, David made his usual rounds to check on each camper.

Once again, he approached Nikki and Nerris' tent; For once, the elf-kin was in there and not locked up in her tower, "Hey David?" She asked, sat upright on the bed.

"Nerris? What a lovely surprise to see you in a nice comfy bed instead of a hard floor. But why are you still awake?" The burnt umber haired male asked, crouching in the opening of the tent.

"I couldn't sleep." Nerris said simply, shrugging her shoulders.

"Any reason why? I am here to help."

Nerris sighed and just like time was repeating its self; She poured her heart out to David. She told him about being ignored by the others, the relentless teasing and borderline bullying. She talked about the cliff and then she got to the part David had been slightly dreading:How Y/N had been there to talk her down.

Soon after she finished talking, Nerris quickly got off her bed and latched herself onto David in a tight hug.

"Why was she up there David?"

"I don't know..." He answered honestly, hoping for the best and fearing the worst.

\\

And like that, there was someone everyday. I listened to their tale; I made them turn away

Over the time of the next couple of weeks, each day that Y/N had gone to the cliff; There was always a camper there.

From Dolph to Nurf, it seemed that the need to jump had laid across the camp like a blanket that the presence of Y/N was able to cut through.

And yet there was no one who would do this for me. No way I could let out all this pain

//

Watching as another camper ran back down the now more obvious path, Y/N sighed and sat down with her legs dangling off the cliff.

"Not this time." She whispered to herself; Y/N looked down off the edge of the cliff before standing back up, making her own way back to camp.

|||TO DAVID|||

David knew something was wrong; He didn't need any explanation, he just knew. As he lowered himself to sit on his bed, he began to think through everything he could.

Everyday, one of the campers in his care would come running down the same path, with the same tear-worn eyes and contrasting smile and they all had the same thing to say. While their reasons all varied, they all had three things in common: The cliff, the contemplation of suicide and Y/N.

The H/C haired female had long been on David's mind; Every detail about her fascinated him. From the way she dealt with the campers, particularly Max who had taken a small liking to the E/C eyed woman, to the way she kept a part of Camp Campbell with her always; Like David had done with his shirt to create his ascot, Y/N had kept a yellow cardigan, that had the Camp Campbell logo printed onto the back, which she tied around her waist.

Y/N had been at Camp Campbell the same time that David and Jasper had been; It had began with her and Jasper being close friends, but David soon joined them once he had realised the beauty and wonder of the camp and its founder. Every now and then, David found himself looking at Max, Nikki and Neil and thinking if they shared the same bond as he, Y/N and Jasper shared when they were children.

Once Jasper left the camp, David began to notice that Y/N's enthusiasm for the camp died.

{A/N Along with Jasper, am I right? Sorry, bad joke}

She began to stop wearing her cardigan and she began tying her hair up; David didn't really know the reason. He had always thought that she looked beautiful with her hair down, why would Jasper's presence at the camp affect that?

Thinking back on it, he believed the reason that Y/N had began tying her hair up was probably the countless compliments Jasper gave her when it was down. But as soon as Jasper left and David complimented her, she ignored him and tied it up. Was there some other detail she knew that David didn't?

David sighed softly as he flopped backwards to be laying on his back. He moved his head to the right and stared at a framed photo on his bedside table.

"Where are you Jasper? You'd know what to do with Y/N..." He whispered, "She needs you, not me. That's how it always was and had it always has been, no matter what I say."

A soft snore came from the other side of the room, David focused his eyes on the sleeping form of the woman who had been attacking his thoughts like a plague.

"But you're not here for her, and I am because somebody fucking has to." David whispered to himself before turning off the lamp beside his bed and closing his eyes, with some newly found determination.

|||Time Skip to the next day|||

Once again, Y/N walked along the dirt path leading to the cliff. When she emerged from the clearing she stopped, noticing another presence straight ahead; Standing dangerously near the edge of the cliff.

//

For the very first time, there I see someone with the same pains as me. Having done this time and time again, he wore a hoodie coloured blue

"I just wanna stop the scars that grow everytime that I go home. That's why I came up here instead." That's what the male in the hoodie said, while staring out into the horizon as the H/C hair coloured female made her way to fall silent at his side.

Y/N mumbled a few words that she had said way too many times before, but it appeared that Max had not heard her.

'Whoa, wait a minute what did I just say? I couldn't care less either way!' She thought before saying it louder, much louder.

But in the moment I just screamed something that I did not believe:

"Hey, don't do it please!"

But still the black haired male did not respond to her plea, instead he took another step forward so that he was balancing between the solid rock and the emptiness of a drop.

'AA WHAT TO DO?! I can't stop this boy, oh this is new! For once I think I've bitten off more than I can chew!' Y/N thought panicked, she managed to get out a some words as she sunk to the floor in somewhat defeat, "But even so please just go away so I can't see. Your pitiful expression is just too much for me!"

"I guess today is just not my day." Max said with a sigh, stepping back and facing his preferred counsellor.

He looked away from me and then he disappeared

//

|||TO DAVID|||

Taking a space that has became a usual place to be for him these days, David waited anxiously for another camper to come running down the path.

But no camper came running.

David sighed and as he was about to leave, out of the corner of his eyes he saw a glimpse of a familiar blue hoodie.

'If Max came down from there... Y/N must be still there.' David thought but right on cue, as if to contradict his statement, the shorter counsellor walked through the clearing.

"Y/N-"

"Not today David."

"But I'm-"

"Not. Today. David." Y/N said through gritted teeth, and continued to walk to the Counsellor Cabin: Slamming the door behind her.

"-worried about you." David said to himself quietly.

"Hey David, you're talking to yourself idiot." A voice spoke up from beside David. As David looked down to the side he saw the green eyes of Max.

"Max! You need to tell me why you were up by the cliff."

"I don't need to tell you shit! And how do you even know, it's not like you bloody care."

"Everyday, one of you lot-"

"Don't rope me in with those assholes." Max interrupted.

David's eyes narrowed, "Look, I am fearing for Y/N and possibly her life right now. Was she up by the cliff with you? Everyday someone has run down through that gosh darn clearing and then emptied their thoughts to me about ending it and Y/N being there."

As David spoke, Max's hard gaze softened and his face relaxed. The younger let out a sigh, "She was there. And I think you need to be there tomorrow. I know there's been people running back, not that I give a crap, but I wasn't gonna do it on the same day as someone else. You're out of campers David." He muttered and walked off, shoving his hands into his pockets as he went.

|||Time Skip to the next day|||

Y/N made her usual walk up to the cliff edge and, to her surprise, saw nobody there.

//

'There's no one here today, I guess it's time. Its just me, myself, and I. There's no one who can interfere, no one to get in my way here' Y/N thought, letting out a small content sigh.

Taking off my yellow cardigan, watching my pony tail come undone. This petite girl, short as can be, is gonna jump now and be free

Y/N fumbled with the cardigan that had constantly been wrapped around her waist, she held it out in front of her before folding it neatly and placing it on the ground.

Slowly, Y/N reached her hands behind her head and pulled the hair band from her pony tail; Which allowed her H/C hair to flow freely in the slight summer breeze. She then proceeded to place the hair band onto of the cardigan and take her shoes off, laying them neatly next to her small collection of possessions.

Y/N took a step towards to the cliff edge.

And another...

And one more...

Y/N realised that nobody really was coming today. She blinked the tears forming in the corner of her eyes away before letting out a shaky breath.

Y/N moved her left foot forward over the cliff, and just as she was about to loose her balance and fall: A firm hand grabbed her wrist, pulling her back away from the edge.

The owner of said hand pulled the E/C female into a tight embrace as she started to cry softly into the unknown persons chest. The soothing smell of pine trees soon hit her nose and it didn't take long for her to realise who this person was.

"Da-David?"

"It's okay. I'm here..." David said soothingly, gently rubbing her back.

"W-What are y-you doing here?" Y/N asked him, moving her head up to look at him.

"I couldn't just let you go. Not this way." David shook his head slowly, "I've seen you come back each day, I heard about what you did for those kids back at camp. Y/N, I couldn't just sit back and let you do this to yourself."

Y/N sniffed and wiped away remnants of her tears, "Why w-"

"Because I care about you Y/N. I have since when we attended camp. And I don't know why I haven't told you sooner, maybe if I had you wouldn't... This might not..."

Y/N shook her head slowly, "D-Don't blame yourself for this. I should of talked to you when you tried."

"Now, don't you blame yourself." David said, attempting to get her to smile with a small one his own.

Y/N let out a strained chuckle, and hurried her face back into David's shirt that had become damp with the salty tears.

"Thank you David..."

David rested his head on the top of Y/N's, "Anytime Y/N."
