Apology
"Avi, come on, you can't be mad at him!" Kirstin pleaded with him seconds after soundcheck had ended.
Avi had been glaring at the boy throughout soundcheck with an illegible expression scrawled on his face and Mitch had completely ignored him, even going so far as to turn completely to Kevin as he sung, which hadn't turned out so well since he realized the sight of the man distracted him. It eventually wound up with him completely facing the audience and the audience only, only occasionally glancing at Scott.
Kirstin felt annoyed beyond belief as she tried to patch things up between the two but neither of them responded properly. She was on the verge of shouting at the both of them when Kevin led her away and reminded her it would be for the best if she left it to them to resolve the issue.
After even Kirstin had left him alone, Avi felt more lonely than he could ever imagine. Mitch was sure to despise him, he hadn't spoken properly to Esther and Kevin, and he doubted Scott would side with him over Mitch. To his surprise, Scott trudged over to him and apologized on Mitch's behalf. He felt bad for Avi considering how awful he had already been feeling but he knew Mitch wouldn't apologize until he was in a better mood.
After Scott had patted his back awkwardly and walked away, Avi assumed the baritone had taken pity on him. However, he didn't know that the blond was extremely close to tears. The look in Avi's eyes as he spoke of Mitch confirmed the doubts Scott had had of Avi crushing on Mitch. He couldn't bring it upon himself to take away Mitch's joy, no matter how much he liked Avi too.
He knew he would need a whole lot of time to get over Avi but he just had to now. A thought crossed his mind of Mitch not loving Avi that way, which would mean he could have a shot. He didn't dare let his hopes rise, however, and he soon found out he was right in doing so.
When he confronted the tenor about his scuffle, he confessed how bad he felt for yelling at him and also told him he was more anxious because he thought he had feelings for another guy but he was starting to like Avi too.
"Mitch, that's still not right. You have to apologize to him, you know? And for what it's worth, I have a feeling he might like you too," Scott's heart broke as he spoke but he wanted his roommate to be away and Avi to be happy too, and he would do anything for that, even if it meant he didn't get to be the one next to Avi throughout the remainder of their lives for he would always be there for him.
Hugging Scott and thanking him, Mitch composed himself before leaving to get to Avi, leaving behind mixed feelings of joy and sadness in his roommate, who was determined to get used to it. Upon seeing Avi's sad expression as he gazed out a window, Mitch's heart dropped when he remembered he was the cause for his sorrow. Could he trust himself to not hurt Avi if they did eventually get together? Perhaps Scott would be a better match but he had encouraged him to go for it.
"If spring can take the snow away, can it melt away all our mistakes?" Mitch sang as his hands intertwined in Avi's, his brown eyes locked onto his green eyes with an apologetic look evident in them.
Pushing away the chills he got when Mitch sang and when he held his hands, Avi smiled at the younger boy, wishing with all his heart that he had been enough for Mitch. It would take him a whole lot of time and effort to get over Mitch but if he had to be there for him and for the man he considered his brother, he would.
A thought raced to his mind, immediately etching a frown onto his face. Kevin hadn't ever told him of ever being attracted to the same gender. Wouldn't he have told him? Shaking his thoughts away at the sight of the confused expression on Mitch's face, he explained that he remembered something and returned the paper to Mitch before he sped down the corridor.
Mitch hoped his bandmate had forgiven him as he pocketed the paper and Esther called him.
