Third Person POV:

"Camila, stop moving to the cafeteria!" Y/n scolded, wrapping her arms around the Cuban's waist as she felt herself become forced to walk.

"I can't!" Camila grunted at each step she took. "We have to do something or--"

"Someone's gotta tell them the rules." Y/n and Camila hear Sharpay seethe to her brother which causes the two to look away from each other.

"Exactly." Ryan nodded his head in agreement before he furrowed his eyebrows. "And what are the rules?"

Sharpay rolls her eyes in annoyance before facing the people at the bottom of the cafeteria, Y/n, and Camila hearing the beat of the song they both knew too well.

"Here we go." Y/n muttered as she finally held Camila down on the stairs that led to the cafeteria, giving them a clear view of everyone.

In the jocks and cheerleaders table, Zeke, one of Troy's best friends in basketball, nervously paced back and forth as he held the basketball in his hand.

He thought that since Troy was doing something that he assumed he enjoyed, why couldn't he do the same thing?

This left him to his thoughts, debating how he should admit to his friends about something he loved doing in his free time.

Something other than basketball.

"You can bet there's nothin' but net when I am in a zone and on a roll." Zeke starts to sing, earning the attention of the people in his table and tosses a basketball to someone before wrapping his arms around one of his teammates and Chad. "But I've got a confession. My own secret obsession and it's making me lose control."

His teammates along with the cheerleaders sit up from their spots to circle around him. "Everybody gather 'round!"

"Well if Troy can tell his secret, then I can tell mine...I-I bake." Zeke nervously admitted to his friends, earning some of them to gasp and chuckle.

Chad was definitely surprised. "What?"

"I love to bake!" Zeke stated clearly with a smile. "Strudels, scones, and even an apple pandowdy."

"I never understood what an apple pandowdy was." Camila whispered to Y/n as she rested her chin on her hand

"Yeah neither did I." Y/n whispered back.

"Not another sound!" His friends sang out in unison, dismissing Zeke's revelation and went to sit back down in their spots.

"Someday I hope to make a perfect creme brulee!" He excitedly continued, leaning closer to the table he sat at.

The jocks and cheerleaders immediately push themselves away from the table as they shook their heads. "No, no, no, nooo! No, no, no!" They sang once more, causing Zeke's eyes to widen as they pointed to the basketball on the table. "Stick to the stuff you know! If you wanna be cool, follow one simple rule. Don't mess with the flow, no no. Stick to the status quo."

Someone throws a basketball to Zeke and he easily catches it as they force him to sit down, a solemn look filling his expression.

Hearing Zeke tell his secret to his friends made Martha have the urge to tell her brainiac friends as well. She thought if a jock could do it, why couldn't she?

"Look at me and what do you see?" She started to sing, earning her friends' attention away from the books they were reading. "Intelligence beyond compare. But inside I am stirring, something strange is occurring. It's a secret I need to share." Martha closes her history book with a smile.

Her friends reach their hands across the table to the girl with assuring looks. "Open up, dig way down deep."

"Hip-hop is my passion!" Martha excitedly admitted. "I love to pop and lock and jam and break!" She emphasized as she showed her friends her moves, earning different gasps to come from them with shocked expressions.

"Is that even legal?" Her red-headed friend that sat next to her asked with disbelief.

"Not another peep!" The rest of her friends put a finger over their mouths to shush her as they sat back down.

"It's just dancing. Sometimes I think it's cooler than homework." Martha shrugged, saddened at the fact none of her friends liked the idea.

Her friends around the table shot up from their spots. "No, no, no, nooo! No, no, no!" They opened their books and pointed to the page in front of them as they stood in front of Martha. "Stick to the stuff you know! It is better by far to keep things as they are. Don't mess with the flow, no no! Stick to the status quo!"

Martha slowly sank back in her spot as her friends made their way back to their seats.

"Honestly, the girl in front of Martha with the blue knitted sweater and green pants is kinda cute." Y/n chuckled but Camila rolled her eyes at the comment.

Camila couldn't help but wonder to herself if Y/n ever looked at her in that way.

"Stop it, Camila!" Camila scolded to herself in her thoughts. "You're not supposed to feel that way. You don't feel that way."

As soon as Y/n's grip loosened just a bit, Camila shot up from her spot which causes her eyes to widen. "Listen well, I'm ready to tell. About a feeling that I can't deny." She randomly sang out and looks down at Y/n, offering her hand out. "Y/n, there's no explanation for this awkward sensation but I'm ready to let it fly!"

Y/n grabs Camila's hand and the Cuban helps her stand to her feet, earning some of the attention from other students nearby. "Speak your mind and you'll be heard!" Y/n felt herself sing out.

"The real reason why I stopped talking to you was because of your friends finding out I had a crush on you when we were kids and threatened to tell you if I didn't stay away." Camila blurted out and Y/n's eyes widen in shock. "And...I sort of still have feelings for you!"

Camila instantly covers her mouth, feeling as if all eyes were on her. Her secret was finally out.

"They what?" Y/n exclaimed. "And you--"

"I'm so sorry, I--" Camila tried to explain but the students nearby interrupt her.

"Not another word!"

Y/n grabbed Camila's arm. "Camila, why didn't you just tell me the truth?"

Camila shakes her head. "From the way you acted with your friends, I doubt you would've ditched them for me."

"I would never do that to you. I-"

"No, no, no, nooo! No, no, no!" Some of the students separated the two girls and circled around them. "Stick to the stuff you know. If you wanna be cool, follow one simple rule. Don't mess with the flow, no no. Stick to the status quo!"

"No, no, no! Stick to the stuff you know!" Everyone else sang in the cafeteria as Sharpay watched with an angered expression at the scene below her. "It is better by far to keep things as they are. Don't mess with the flow, no no. Stick to the status quo!"

As the dance break between the jocks, brainiacs, even the skater dudes trying out different things they would never do before, Camila and Y/n were somehow separated in the chaos with the students leading them to the tables.

"Camila!" Y/n called out, trying to push her way through the crowd as she looked for her friend. "Camila!"

Camila accidentally stumbles into a cheerleader reading a history book and ducks in time from the basketball being tossed around with the Zeke and one of the skater guys.

She could've sworn she just saw a cello.

"This is not what I want." Sharpay sang out after, glaring at the people below. "This is not what I planned. And I just gotta say, I do not understand! Something is really..."

Ryan comes from behind to stand next to her. "Something's not right--"

Sharpay holds a hand up in front of his face to silence him. "Really wrong!"

The two siblings briefly look to each other before facing the chaos below, not bothering to look behind them since they knew the people behind them had joined their classmates' actions. "And we gotta get things back where they belong! We can do it!"

"Proud to be gay!" Camila announced, the movie forcing her to sing out which causes the students nearby to shush her.
"Please let that girl go." They say to her as she sat back down on the other side of the stairs.

"We can do it!" Sharpay and Ryan sing in unison.

"Hip hop hooray!" Martha shot up from her table.

Her friends dismissively wave their hands to her. "She has got to go."

"We can do it!" Sharpay and Ryan sang louder.

Zeke holds the dish in his hand as he stood on top of his table. "Creme Brulee!"

"Keep your voice down low!" His friends scold him and Chad tries to knock the dish out of his hands but Zeke quickly catches it from falling.

"Not another peep, no! Not another word, no!" Everyone in the cafeteria slowly stood up from their tables once more, their voices going from quiet to loud. "Not another sound, no!"

However, that was the last straw from Sharpay. "Everybody quiet!"

Camila feels a hand on her shoulder and looks up, seeing Gabriella give a sympathetic expression as she held her lunch in her hands with Taylor standing behind.

"Are you okay?" Gabriella worriedly asked and looked around, seeing that everyone stared at them. "Why is everybody starin' at you?"

"It's not just her. It's you too." Taylor chuckled at Gabriella's confused expression.

"It's the callbacks," Camila explained and Gabriella's eyes widen.

"Oh, man. I can't have people staring at me! I really can't." Gabriella worriedly tells them.

"No!" Everyone in the cafeteria burst into song again, causing the trio to jump in shock. "No, no, nooo! Stick to the stuff you know!"

"Come on, let's get you guys out of here." Taylor helps the Cuban up from the stairs and wraps an arm around hers. "I know where we can go."

"If you wanna be cool, follow one simple rule. Don't mess with the flow, oh no." The students continued without a care in the world as Taylor carefully tried to lead Gabriella and Camila through the students. "Stick to the status quo!"

"No, no, no! Stick to the stuff you know!" Sharpay spots the trio trying to go through some of the students as a couple of them jumped on top of the tables to dance with grins on their faces with their friends dancing around the tables. "It is better by far to keep things as they are. Don't mess with the flow, no no!"

Sharpay marches her way down the stairs to the three girls and Y/n finally spots them, realizing what was about to happen next and quickly tries to reach them.

"Stick to the status, stick to the status," Camila is then pushed against Gabriella, causing the girl to slip on the milk puddle as well as her lunch flying high in the air with Sharpay about to reach them. "Stick to the status quo!"

Her chili cheese fries land right on top of Sharpay's chest, the food horribly staining her pink floral blazer which earns multiple gasps in the cafeteria.

An ear-piercing scream escapes from Sharpay's lips and Gabriella frantically tries to help clean up Sharpay's outfit.

"I-I'm so sorry!" Gabriella gasped out but Taylor quickly pulls her away with Camila trailing behind, not sparing another glance at the blonde.

Y/n's POV:

As soon as I shove Camila out of the way and making sure that she stumbled into Gabriella, I quickly go to the sides where I knew Troy would be entering from.

His eyebrows furrow in confusion at the situation in front of him but I pat his arm as Chad comes up to the both of us. "You do not want to get into that, man." Chad tells him and I nod in agreement.

"I agree," I say and guide Troy to sit down in one of the nearby tables. "Too much drama."

"What is going on here?" Ms. Darbus' voice boomed in the cafeteria.

"Look at this! That...That Gabriella girl just dumped her lunch on me! On purpose!" Sharpay angrily explained. "I bet it was all part of Camila's plan to ruin our musical!"

"What!" Camila exclaimed but was quickly shushed by Taylor.

Sharpay's gaze lands on us. "A-And obviously Troy and his basketball robots are behind it too! Why do you think he and Y/n auditioned?" She looks back at Ms. Darbus with a saddened expression. "After all the hard work you've put into this show. It just doesn't seem right!"

She storms back up to the stairs, the crowd of students quickly moving away from her as she went passed them.

"What's up? What happened?" Troy asked, glancing between Chad and me.

"What's up? Oh, let's see. You missed free-period workout yesterday to audition for a heinous musical and now suddenly people are...confessing!" Chad exclaimed and grabs Zeke's arm, pulling him into our conversation. "Yeah, and Zeke. Zeke is baking creme brulee!"

Troy's eyes lit up with interest. "Oh, what's that?"

"Oh, it's a creamy custard with a caramelized surface. It's really satisfying." Zeke explained excitedly.

"Can I have some?" I ask and Zeke nods, reaching over to hand me the cup.

"Shut up, Zeke!" Chad scolded, putting his hand between so he wouldn't hand it to me. Zeke walks away to the people behind us. "Look, do you see what's happening here? Our team is coming apart because of your singing thing." He points to the group of students that Zeke was talking to. "Even the drama geeks and the brainiacs suddenly think that they can talk to us. Look, the skater dudes are mingling!"

I crossed my arms. "Hey, I doubt your guys' team is falling apart because of what Troy wants to do."

"No offense but you're new to this school and the real reason you're hanging with us is that Troy likes you." Chad gestured to Troy and I rolled my eyes. "That's how this all started. Suddenly people think that they can do other stuff. Stuff that's not their stuff. They've got you thinking about show tunes when we've got a playoff game next week!"

He shoves his tray of food away from him and gets up from the table to walk away.

"Hey," I nudge Troy's arm. "don't take what he said to heart. You're doing this because you like it, right?" Troy nods. "Then don't let it stop you."

"I'm just worried about my dad. I don't know what he'll say about the singing." He rests his head on his hand. "My parents' friends are always saying, "Your son's the basketball guy. You must be so...proud." Sometimes I don't wanna be the basketball guy." He looks away from me and stares at the logo of our school on the table. "I just wanna be a guy."

Camila's POV:

"Is Sharpay really, really mad at me? I said I was sorry." Gabriella sighed.

"I'm telling you now that was probably all that you could've done at the moment." I give a small shrug. "For god's sake, she tried accusing me over ruining the show."

"Guys, no one has beaten out Sharpay for a musical since kindergarten," Taylor emphasized.

"I wasn't trying to beat anyone out. We didn't even audition, we were just trying to help out Y/n and Camila to get their turn and just simply sang a song that Kelsi wrote." Gabriella says, momentarily glancing at me before looking back to Taylor.

"Yeah, I don't know why she hates you that much." I roll my eyes in annoyance. "It should only be me that she hates."

"You won't convince Sharpay of that. I'm telling you if that girl could play both Romeo and Juliet, her own brother would be aced out of the job."

"I told you, it just happened. But I liked it." Gabriella smiled. "A lot."

I couldn't help but smile too. "Same here."

"Have you guys ever felt like there's a whole other person inside of you just looking for a way to come out?"

Taylor furrowed her eyebrows. "Not really, no."

I chuckle. "I mean, I practically just came out to the whole school so...yeah."

"Right..." Gabriella chuckled, throwing a grape from her tray toward my direction with a smile.

After this, I doubt I could ever face Y/n again. She probably doesn't want to see me.
