Y/n's POV

"You're barely joining our class this late into the year?" Ms. Darbus raises her eyebrows in suspicion.

"Yes." Camila answers but with more of a question. "It's sort of our first day here."

She hands back our schedules that magically appeared in our bags.

"Alright. Find a seat." She says, gesturing to the chairs where the students talked amongst themselves.

"I can't believe that worked." I whisper as Camila walked ahead of me to the desks.

"Yeah well, it's a movie. Of course they wouldn't question it." She scolds as she walks in between Troy and Sharpay, sitting in one of the empty chairs in the middle rows. I sat next to her but turn around to see Gabriella barely putting something away in her bag.

I feel a smack on my arm which causes me to turn away, seeing Camila with an angered expression.

"What?"

"Don't even try to talk to her. We can't mess anything else up." She sternly says but I roll my eyes. As soon as I face forward, Troy was already staring at Camila with shock as she was trying to pull out her stuff from her bag.

"Okay don't look, but it looks like you had an effect on Troy too. "I whisper and she looks up to me.

"You're kidding." She says almost close to looking towards his direction but I kick her shin.

"I said don't look!" I quietly scold.

"Well what am I supposed to do? I have to pay attention to the class!" She glares.

"Darbus is gonna catch him and make him pay attention." I explain.

As if on cue, the bell rings and Darbus claps her hands together, gaining the rest of the class's attention.

"Ah...I trust you all had splendid holidays." She says as the students took their seats then crosses her arms as she saw Troy still trying to look for Camila. "Check the signup sheet in the lobby for new activities, Mr. Bolton."

Troy quickly sits down properly in his seat and faces forward, causing me to smirk at Camia who had an annoyed expression. "Told you." I whisper and she discreetly flips me off.

"Especially our winter musicale. We will have singles auditions for our supporting rolls and pairs auditions for our two leads." Ms. Darbus continues but Chad makes his noise with his mouth, practically brushing it off as something stupid and immediately Ms. Darbus catches him. "Mr. Danforth, this is a place for learning, not a hockey arena." She glares at the basketball on his desk and he quickly pulls it into his lap. "There is also a final signup for next weeks scholastic decathlon competition. Chem club president, Taylor McKessie--"

Taylor shoots up her hand from her spot with a grin.

"can answer all of your questions about that."

Instantly someone phone starts to ring and I glance at Camila who was already pulling out her phone, her eyes widening once read the name.

"How the hell?" She whispered, showing that it was Troy calling her. "I didn't even give him my number!"

"Ah, the cellphone menace has returned to our crucible of learning." Ms. Darbus says, walking over to her chair to grab the bucket.

"This is when she starts handing out detentions." I whisper and her eyes widen. "We have to get into detention."

"Hell no! We have to figure out a way to get out of here. Not waste it by pretending we're actually students that go here." She glared as she kept trying to decline the call but it kept ringing in her hands. "Why won't this stupid thing stop?"

"Because it's following along the movie, dumbass." I scold and quickly pull out my phone to call Gabriella. "It's the only way we can figure out how to leave."

Her phone starts to ring as well and she quickly digs into her bag.

"Sharpay and Ryan, cellphones and I will see you in detention." Ms. Darbus says and Sharpay scoffs, the siblings putting their phones in the bucket with reluctance. Ms. Darbus walks over to Gabriella who wasn't paying attention to her heading towards her direction. "We have zero tolerance for cellphones in class, so we will get to know each other in detention. Cellphone." She sternly says to Gabriella and she sadly places the phone in the bucket as well. "And welcome to East High, Ms. Montez."

Finally Camila's phone stopped ringing but Ms. Darbus already saw us with our phones in our hands.

"Just because you two transferred as well, doesn't mean you'll get off the hook easily Ms. Cabello and Ms. L/N. Cellphones, now." She scolds then Camila and I put our phones in the bucket. Ms. Darbus continues walking down the rows and sees Troy trying to hide his phone in his arm. "Mr. Bolton, I see your phone is involved so we will you in detention as well."

"T-That's not even a possibility, Ms. Darbus, your honor, see cause," He gestures to himself and Troy. "We have basketball practice and Troy--"

"That'll be fifteen minutes for you too, Mr. Danforth. Count them." She immediately interrupts the boy.

Taylor snorts near me. "That can be tough for Chad since he probably can't count that high." She whispers to a couple people beside her which earns a couple of chuckles.

"Taylor McKessie, fifteen minutes." Ms. Darbus scolds which causes Taylor to gasp but Ms. Darbus slams the bucket on Troy's desk which causes him to flinch. "Shall the carnage continue? Holidays are over people, way over."

"I forgot how strict she was." I mutter to Camila.

"She practically handed out detentions like Ellen would hand out cool stuff to her audience." She replies and I try to suppress a laugh.

"Now, anymore comments? Questions?" She puts her hands behind her back but I knew that there was that one person who had to say one more thing. She looks behind Taylor and takes a deep breath. "Jason?"

"So how were your holidays Ms. Darbus?" Jason asks which causes some of the class to groan, leaving him in confusion. "What?"

The bell rings again which causes the class to collect their things and leave the room.

"Troy is going to be waiting outside. You have to try to convince him to sing since he didn't do the duet with Gabriella." I explain, taking a small glance to Gabriella who was getting her things together as well. "Lead him to where the signup sheet is, I'll try to do the same with Gabriella."

"I don't even know where that is! Just come with me." She says and starts to pull me out of the room.

As soon as we walk out, Troy pops up from the side with a smile. "Hey, I didn't know you were attending school here." He says then notices me standing beside her. "And you. Are you both new?"

Camila looks to me for help. "Yeah, both of our parents work in the same company so they--"

"Y/n?" I turn to see Gabriella standing behind me. "Can we talk?"

"I swear to god, Y/n--" Camila warns, grabbing my arm so I wouldn't move.

"Just do what I said." I whisper, pulling my arm away. "You'll be okay."

I start to walk with Gabriella and once they were earshot away, she turns to me with a small smile.

"I didn't know you were going to school here." She says and I scratch my neck nervously.

"It's my first day," I trail. "but how are you here? The lodge was pretty far so I assumed you lived somewhere else."

"My mom's company transferred her here to Albuquerque." She explains as we both continued to walk in the hallways. "I tried looking for you in the lodge after...you know," She clears her throat. "but they said you had already checked out."

"Yeah uh- my friend and I had to leave since our families wanted us back the next morning." I lie and she nods her head. "And, can you do me a favor?"

"Anything."

I have to lie to her about hiding the singing. Just so it has the similar plot to the movie.

"Can we not talk about the singing thing with my friend?" I ask and she furrows her eyebrows. "I don't want her to know about it."

"Too much for her to handle?" She teases as we turn the corner that I recognized to be close to the sign up sheet. "Including what happened after?"

"No, singing with you a-and..." I stammer and she waits for me to continue. "what happened after was great. It's just something out of my comfort zone."

"I see." She says and I see Camila in a middle of a conversation with Troy by the signup sheet.

"Anyway, welcome to Eash High!" I clear my throat and gesture around us as we got closer to them. "Now that we both met Ms. Darbus, I bet you can't wait to sign up for that." I point to the signup sheet which gains attention from Camila and Troy.

"I agree with her." Camila adds as she turned to Gabriella. "Are you signing up, Gabriella?"

"No, I won't be signing up for anything for awhile. I just want to get to know the school." Gabriella then turns to smile at me. "But if Y/n signs up, I'll consider coming to the show."

"Uh..." I trail then glance at Troy. "What about you, Troy? You've been quiet." I say and his eyes widen. "Do you have a secret singing talent?

He shakes his head immediately. "Signing up would be completely impossible."

Sharpay pops her head from behind the post that held the signup sheet. "What's impossible Troy is that I wouldn't think impossible is even in your vocabulary." She says, eyeing Camila up and down as if she was trying to intimidate her. "So nice of you to show our new classmates around."

I glance at Camila who was close to saying something back but I discreetly nudge her stomach, causing her to stay quiet.

Sharpay pulls out a marker from her pocket and writes her signature as big as she could across the lines, as if she didn't want anyone else putting their names.

"Sheesh." Camilla mutters which causes Sharpay to turn around.

"Oh! Were you guys going to sign up too?" She asks, looking over at Gabriella, Camila, and I. "My brother and I have starred in all the school's productions. We really welcome newcomers. There are a lot of supporting rolls in the show. I'm sure we can find something for you guys." She smirks.

"Listen here --" Camila tries to speak up but I nudge her side harder, causing her to stop again. "I mean, no I think I'm good."

"Yeah and I was just looking at all the bulletin boards." Gabriella says then looks around at the walls that had various signup sheets for clubs.  "There's a lot going on at this school." She starts to walk away until she glanced at Sharpay's signature. "Nice penmanship."

I could tell Sharpay wanted to say something snarky but all she did was smile at the girl.

"I'll catch up with you later, Y/n." Gabriella smiles at me before walking away into a different direction.

"So Troy," Sharpay says as soon as Gabriella leaves. "I missed you during vacation. What did you do?"

"Oh you know. Played basketball, snowboarding, more basketball." He shrugged innocently.

"When's the big game?"

He holds up two fingers. "Two weeks."

"You are so dedicated." She trails with a sigh. "Just like me." She says with a laugh, making him laugh along awkwardly.

"Is that her way of flirting?" Camila whispers so only I would hear but I shush her.

"I hope you come watch me in the musical...promise?" She asks the boy and all he did was nod before turning to walk away. "Toodles!"

Sharpay drops her smile as soon as he leaves then turns to walk away as well.

"She was this close," Camila lifts her fingers up, as if she was about to squish something in between. "to getting slapped."

I chuckle. "So did you get anything out of Troy?"

"I tried by bringing up music in the conversation. I told him I sang a little and he said the most he did was sing in the shower." She said as we continued walking down the hall. "For some reason he says that I gave him my number once we left the lodge."

"I guess it's a way for the movie to make sense." I shrug.

"I know, I know." Camila groans. "Now that we have free time, we have to talk about how we're going to get out of here. What did we do before we actually came here."

"We were snowboarding but because of the storm, it knocked us off then boom, we ended up here." I say but she pinches the bridge of her nose. "What?"

"How are we supposed to get back home when there's no snow!" She exclaims, causing some students to turn to her.

"Will you quiet down." I scold, grabbing her arm to quickly pull her away from everyone. "We just have to get through the rest of the day and make sure it goes along with the movie."

"And what if it doesn't?"

Instantly, I feel my arm begin to vibrate which causes the both of us to look down at my wrist. My apple watch was slowly fading back and forth until it finally disappears from my wrist.

"Please tell me you just saw that." I whisper and she nods slowly.

"Apple watches weren't invented in 2006. It doesn't belong here." She says and looks up to me. "Y/n, we don't belong here. That means we'll both disappear!"

"It wasn't doing that when we were at the lodge!" I say but then my eyes widen. "Until I...oh my god."

"Troy and Gabriella were supposed to meet that night." Camila whispers.

"But instead of them meeting, we met them which changed the direction of the movie." I say in realization. "If the two never met, they both don't gain the courage to sing in the end."

"How are we supposed to have them both sing together? They clearly have different intentions of what they want to do here." Camila gestures around us. "What happens after the little talk with Sharpay? I don't exactly remember."

"Ryan sees Troy back at the signup sheet to see if Gabriella signed up and Sharpay, of course, tries to make Gabriella focused onto something else by putting newsletters of Gabriella leading her old scholastic decathlon team to victory in Taylor's locker." I explain and Camila slowly nods.

"Alright so...how do we make it seem like Gabriella could be a threat to taking her spot?"

"She's not. Which is why we're going to set it up." I say and the bell rings. "After chemistry, you find Ryan and tell him that his sister wants to meet up by the statue near the signup sheet so he could see Troy looking at the signup sheet."

"And what are you going to do?" She crosses her arms.

"I'm gonna print out the newsletter and put it in Taylor's locker so she could tell Gabriella about the decathlon team."

"Okay, okay." Camila breathes out. "Good plan."
