Camila's POV:
A knock breaks me away from the maps I was examining but Elena walks over to the doors, pushing both of them to open but her eyes widen slightly.
"Good evening." I hear a familiar voice speak.
Elena clears her throat. "How did you get past the guards?"
"I sort of...snuck past?"
"All forty-eight of them? Even the ones that eat fire?" She shrugged. "Impressive."
"That's what people say about me." The girl nervously chuckled but Elena slowly turned to me with her expression slightly weirded out. "Wait, that didn't come out the right way. No one says that. I don't know why I said that." Elena looks forward again and lets out a gasp.
"They're beautiful! She will hate them." She deadpanned to her. "Tell Prince Stevie the way to her heart is through her mind."
Elena was hitting it off with Prince Stevie's guard?
"Actually, these are from me to you."
My eyes widen and I could already tell Elena was freaking out just by how her posture changed.
"Could you excuse me one moment?" Elena whispered and pulls both doors to shut.
She starts to silently cheer in her spot and I stifle back a squeal from escaping, feeling extremely happy for my handmaid that I practically considered as my sister.
She takes a couple of deep breaths and pushes the doors open again with her expression remaining calm. "My favorites. I accept. Please continue." She grabs the flowers and holds them close to her.
"I was noticing how pleasant the evening is. At the party during our small conversation, I noticed you noticing how...pleasant I am." Elena briefly glanced at me with her eyebrows raised before turning to face forward again. "Right. How's this going?"
"It's sort of messy, but in a charming sort of a way." Elena softly chuckled.
"Sorry, I'm just...you make me nervous." The girl cleared her throat. "Would you like to take an evening stroll?"
"Just the two of us? On purpose? You don't care if people saw us together?" Elena raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, as...people. As long as our conversation flows well, I don't mind."
"Just one more second." Elena spoke and pulled the doors to shut once more. She quickly tosses me the flowers and I gesture for her to hurry as she fixed her hair.
She pushes open the doors again. "I've never done this before. How does it work?"
She exits the room as she closed the doors behind her and I place the flowers on the desk.
I continue looking through my maps but another knock on the door breaks me from my focus once more. "Come in!"
"Actually, I'm already in." I hear a voice announce from behind and I quickly turn, seeing Prince Stevie step out from behind the wall.
Y/n's POV:
"Don't move." She immediately says with a stern tone and I worriedly glance to her pet tiger as it let out a small growl.
"I just came back because you left so--"
"How did you get there?" She interrupted with her eyebrows furrowed as she pointed to the ledge I came from.
"Magic carpet?" I answer hesitantly.
She scoffed. "Actually, I'm glad you are here." She turns back to the book in front of her. "I've been trying to find Ababwa, but it doesn't seem to be on any of my maps. Care to show me?"
Uh oh. "I'd love to." I awkwardly chuckle.
Her tiger lets out another growl. "Leo, let's not eat the prince today." The princess spoke up and Leo stops in his place. "He needs his legs for dancing."
"Did I go too far with the back-flip?"
"A little." She muttered in annoyance. "Ababwa?"
I nod and take a couple of steps closer to where she stood. "Genie I need to find Ababwa. She has maps, lots of maps." I mutter under my breath before I clear my throat and pick up one of the maps on the table, noticing the curious look on her face. "Ababwa, of course."
I lift the map to block her face but see Genie hadn't done anything yet. "Ababwa." I emphasized and a mini cartoon version of Genie appears on the map.
I roll my eyes in annoyance but he starts to add different places with various buildings until he wrote FANTASY LAND as the name.
I quickly shake my head with a glare and to make things worse, he adds another ribbon across the castle with the words JUST BE YOURSELF in yellow bold letters.
"Genie, I swear to--" I mouthed but Camila uses her hand to lower the map.
"Have you lost your country?" She asks, her tone laced with suspicion.
I shake my head. "No, no. It's uh..." I trail and Camila rose an eyebrow. Oh god, I'm about to screw myself over. "It's right there." I point to a random spot on the map.
She scoffed. "I don't think so. I've been--" She glances down to the map and her eyes widen. I glance down as well and see small buildings painted with the name ABABWA written above. "How did I not see that?"
"Told you." I nervously chuckle. "Who needs maps anyway? They're old a-and useless, and add no practical value."
She tilts her head a bit. "Maps are how I see the world."
"You haven't seen beyond the palace?" I furrowed my eyebrows. "I thought a princess could go anywhere?"
She gives a small shrug. "Not this princess."
"Well, would you want to--" I accidentally trip behind, knocking down some of the fruit from a bowl to fall on the floor which earns a chuckle to escape from her lips. "Sorry, sorry."
I bend down to pick up the fruit, but instantly I'm face to face with Leo which causes me to freeze in my spot.
"Leo," Camila warns but he lets out a growl.
Before I could back away, Leo leans forward and drags his tongue up my face before letting out a purr.
I chuckle softly. "Thanks." I push myself up from the ground and notice the look of wonder on the princess's face. "I was saying...you should see these places." I gesture to the city behind us as I walked to the balcony. "I mean, there's a whole world outside of books and maps. Do...Do you want to?"
"How? Every door is guarded."
I back away to the edge of the balcony with a shrug. "Who said anything about a door?"
"What are you doing?" She worriedly asked as I swung my legs over the stone railing but still held on.
"Sometimes Princess," I release my hands and raise an eyebrow. "you just have to take a risk."
I jump off of the ledge and without much of a surprise, carpet catches me on time and slowly raises me back up.
Once we reach back to the balcony, a wave of relief washes over Camila's face as she inched closer to the stone railing.
"Is this...?" She whispered, looking between Carpet and me.
"A magic carpet." I answer as I crouch down a bit. "Do you trust me?"
Her eyes widen. "What did you say?"
I offer my hand. "Do you trust me?"
She slowly reaches for it and never looked away from my eyes. "Yes."
Third Person's POV:
Those same four familiar words that escaped from Prince Stevie's lips, it made the Princess's heart hammer out of her chest.
"Could it be Y/n? There's no way." Camila thought in her head as the carpet flew the two further and further away from the balcony.
Her thoughts were broken as she heard the small chatter of several people of Agrabah below which causes her to look around in awe.
Never in her life, she had imagined she would be this high above the ground. She felt...free.
As Y/n stared lovingly to the girl next to her as the wind blew on her face, it was almost as if she couldn't help the words that escaped from her lips.
"I can show you the world," Y/n sung softly, giving a small squeeze to Camila's hand which causes the Cuban to face her with wonder. "Shining, shimmering splendid. Tell me, Princess, now when did you last let your heart decide?"
Carpet flew passed the city of Agrabah and reached the desert from when Alana and Y/n were forced into negotiation with Jafar.
"I can open your eyes. Take you wonder by wonder." Y/n continued, recognizing the area they were flying by and released the hold she had on Camila's hand to steer the carpet to the mountain top hills. "Over, sideways and under on a magic carpet ride."
She pulls on the ends and the carpet flies up towards the clouds, causing the Princess to wrap her arm around Y/n's with a terrified expression.
"A whole new world," Y/n gestured around them as they flew higher than the mountaintops. "a new fantastic point of view. No one to tell us 'no' or where to go. Or say we're only dreaming."
Feeling safer than before, Camila removes her hands from Y/n's arm and sits up straighter with a grin, feeling the wind blow in her face. "A whole new world," She joined in, causing Y/n's heart to swell at the sound of her voice. "a dazzling place I never knew. But when I'm way up here, it's crystal clear" Y/n gestures for Camila to take over to steer the carpet and she doesn't hesitate to accept the offer and grabs the ends. "that now I'm in a whole new world with you."
She steers the carpet to a nearby ravine as Y/n continued to sing. "Now I'm in a whole new world with you."
Fireflies begin to glow around them, dozens flying passed as the carpet followed down the river which causes Camila to look around in awe. "Unbelievable sights, indescribable"
"Feeling." The two sang in unison as Y/n looked to Camila with a smile.
"Soaring, tumbling, freewheeling," Camila's face flushed pink as she caught Y/n's stares but then her eyes widen in shock as she realized they were inching near the waterfall. "through an endless diamond sky. A whole new world!"
She shuts her eyes and wraps her hand around Y/n's arms as she took over to steer. "Don't you dare close your eyes."
Camila hesitantly opens one eye due to the mist of the water that splashed their faces. "A hundred thousand things to see." She continued as Y/n sung 'Hold your breath it gets better' at the same time.
"I'm like a shooting star, I've come so far." Camila looks to Y/n. "I can't go back to where I used to be."
"A whole new world," Y/n looks to her once more, steering the carpet to lower near the sea so the princess would be able to see the dolphins as they flew by.
"Every turn, a surprise." Camila continued but her eyes widen as she saw the dolphins momentarily jump over the water.
"With new horizons to pursue," Y/n subconsciously moved her hand closer to Camila's as the Princess continued with 'Every moment, red-letter' at the same time.
The two girls look over the edge to see the dolphins clearer. "I'll chase them anywhere, there's time to spare." Camila feels Y/n's hand which causes the pair to lock eyes again, both of their hearts pounding at their hands touching one another. "Let me share this whole new world with you."
They both look forward, seeing as they were inching closer back to Agrabah.
"A whole new world." Y/n softly sung out, seeing her reach closer to her city she called home. The city where she only lived with Alana and Davy and always had to fend for themselves.
Camila's eyes trail over to the palace, the place she was sheltered after her mother's death. "A whole new world."
Thanks to Prince Stevie, he had shown her what lied beyond the city of Agrabah and she loved every moment she spent with him.
"That's where we'll be." Y/n continued, her thoughts completely filled with comparing her old life and the new one she was living in now.
Camila rests her head on Y/n's arm, her walls now completely down as she felt safe around her, well in her eyes, him. "That's where we'll be."
Y/n's eyes momentarily widen in shock at the action before her expression turns into a grin. "A thrilling chase."
"A wondrous place."
In unison, Camila lifts her head as Y/n looks down to lock eyes once more before they softly sang the last line.
"For you and me."
Y/n's POV:
"Of all the places you've shown me," Camila spoke as the carpet floated above the scene below us where some of the civilians that were dancing along to music and enjoying themselves. "this is by far the most beautiful thing.
"Sometimes, you just have to see it from a different perspective." I say as I place the formal long sleeve jacket I had been wearing from the festival over her shoulders.
"It's them," She gestures to the people in the bottom. "the people. They make it beautiful. And they deserve a leader who knows that. I don't know why I think it could be me."
"What are you talking about? Of course it should be you." I bump her shoulder and she turns to me with her eyebrow raised.
"You think so?"
"Does it matter what I think?" I reach my hand to tuck a couple of loose strands away from her face. "Others that say otherwise are too afraid to admit they're wrong."
She doesn't say a word but looks back to the people below with her eyebrows furrowed. "Oh, look at that adorable hawk down there with its owner. Is that Davy and Alana?"
I shake my head immediately and look down as well to look for them. "No, no, it couldn't be them. Davy's in the room and Alana's with..." My eyes widen in realization at my mess up. "Uh."
"So," Camila sighed dramatically. "how many names do you have, Prince--excuse me, Princess Y/n?"
"No, no I--" I stammer but she turns to me with a stern expression.
"Who is Prince Stevie?"
I clear my throat. "I am Prince Stevie."
"But how would you know the city so well?" She looks me up and down. "And become a girl?"
Shit. Shit. Shit.
"I-uh-I came to Agrabah early because...to know a people, you have to see them for yourself but you already know that." I try to explain then gestured to her. "When we first met, you were disguised in your own city. In order for the people in my kingdom to take me seriously as a leader, I had to change everything about me. You saw us arrive with dancers, an elephant, and a magic carpet. How could a street thief have all that?"
She drops her stern expression but still looked at me with suspicion. "But how could I not recognized you?"
"People don't see the real you when you're royalty." I shrug and gesture to the mask over my mouth. "And I guess this sort of helped too."
"I'm sorry," She lets out a sigh. "I'm embarrassed. I mean, you've seen more of Agrabah in days than I have in an entire lifetime."
I look down in shame, feeling guilty over the fact I lied straight to her face. She doesn't deserve that.
"We should probably head back." I spoke and adjusted the mask over my mouth.
She tilts her head a bit. "Already?" I simply nod in response and she wraps her arm around mine as I steered the carpet to fly back towards the balcony of her room.
Once we reach the ledge, I help her stand to her feet and she hands back the jacket. I place it back on the carpet and hold her hand as she carefully steps off of the carpet and back on her balcony.
Carpet slowly lowers until I was the same height of where the Princess stood. "Until tomorrow, Princess." I spoke softly.
Instantly, I feel the carpet arch upwards which causes me to stumble closer to her face.
My eyes dart between her eyes and her lips but I was hesitant on whether or not she wanted to kiss me.
My question was soon answered once she lifted her hand up to lower the mask, uncovering my mouth that was hidden for some time now and I could feel my heartbeat quicken.
And with that, I lean forward and press my lips against hers.
Her lips carefully and slowly moved against mine, feeling her fingertips trail under my chin which sent me in a euphoric state of mind. Just the contact alone sent sparks made my head spin.
I was finally kissing the Princess, the same girl from the market.
I'm the first to pull away and I open my eyes to see the smile on her face before she opened her eyes as well.
She clears her throat. "Goodnight." She whispers before turning away to head back inside her room.
"Goodnight." I repeat, unable to fight the smile on my face. "Yes!" I fell on my back, feeling carpet already catch me and fly us back to the room.
Carpet carefully flies us inside which catches the attention from Genie and Alana but I still laid casually on the fabric with a grin.
"Someone looks like they had a good time tonight." Alana teased, walking over to the nearby bench by me.
I gesture to the lipstick stains on her face and neck. "Looks like your evening stroll with the handmaid took a turn."
Her cheeks flush in embarrassment. "Let's just say thank god for extra rooms."
"Anyway," Genie groaned with a bit of chuckle after. "how was the date, kid?"
"It was the best." I sighed but snapped my fingers to him. "She figured out I was Y/n. You said that wouldn't happen."
"Wow! I mean, genie magic is really just a facade." He took a sip of his drink. "At some point, real character's always gonna shine through."
"Besides, that's a good thing. She knows the truth and I don't have to be your bodyguard anymore. She saved us the trouble." Alana sighs in relief but I awkwardly smile.
"Well..."
Her expression drops. "Well, what?"
"I convinced her that I really was a prince." I shrugged. "I just made up some story about having to be a guy for the people in our kingdom to take me seriously.
"And she believed you?" Genie furrowed his eyebrows. "Eventually, you are going to have to tell her the truth."
"Y/n, she deserves to know now from you instead of learning from someone else." Alana crossed her arms.
"Guys, eventually I'll tell her." I roll my eyes. "Anyway, I sort of am a prince now."
"Oh," Genie muttered. "you're gonna drink from that cup?"
Camila's POV:
"So now that I've told you my night," Elena plopped herself next to me on my bed. "how was your date with Prince Stevie?"
"The best." I fiddle with my fingers with a smile. "But it was better than the best. He showed me what lied beyond Agrabah and the sights were so so beautiful."
"So you talked to him. That's good." She nudged my side. "So you're completely over the girl from the market?"
"She's actually the girl from the market but was in disguise at the time. She told me that she was only pretending to be a thief to see the city and see what it was like in their perspective outside of palace life. In front of her kingdom, that's when she pretends to be a man so the people would take her seriously."
"And you believed her?" Elena furrowed her eyebrows.
I nod. "I think so. I understand why she was hiding a secret like that. My father and Jafar won't listen to a word I say about me becoming sultan."
"You don't think maybe you want to believe her because you have to marry a prince, but you can't marry a thief and a girl?"
I smack her arm. "No, I believe her. I do." Right?
🧞♂️NEXT DAY🧞♂️
Y/n's POV:
"When the time is right, I will tell her." I tell Davy who was perched on my shoulder as I walked through the halls that I remembered that led to Princess Camila's room.
However, two of Jafar's guards stepped away from the wall and stood in front of me with serious expressions.
Davy quickly flies off of my shoulder but I furrowed my eyebrows in confusion since Jafar's guards blocked me from taking another step.
"Morning?"
"Morning." A rather hoarse voice spoke behind me. I slowly turn around and see Hakim with a stern look.
Oh god, not again.
