Y/N's POV:
"Are you sure it won't be a problem on being your TA for first period instead of second?" I asked my old English teacher.
"Of course not! It stills works out. The only difference is that it's sophomores instead of freshmen which means it's less chaotic."
"So that means I'm reliving last year huh?" I laughed and he lightly chuckled.
"Except all you have to do is just grade papers." He said and I nodded before grabbing my stuff.
"Alright I'll see you tomorrow Mr. Morrison."
"Bye Y/N."
Here I was early in my TA period, slightly curious on how the students would be. I mean, I sort of liked when I had second period with the freshmen but my schedule got messed up so they switched my English period to second and had my TA period be first.
The good part about this was if I missed out on homework from the day before, I can work on it if Mr. Morrison doesn't have anything for me to do.
Bad part, I didn't know any sophomores who have this class.
"Anything for me to do today, Mr. Morrison?" I asked once I opened the door and immediately taking a seat in a desk that was by the door.
"All you have to do is go around and sign the homework to confirm that the students actually did it." He said, not taking his eyes away from the laptop and continued to type whatever he was doing. "Got a song request for me today?"
"For the Love by Hearts and Colors then after that My Girl by the Temptations." I said and reached over to grab a marker from the cup that had a bunch of pens, markers, and pencils.
"Good choice." He said and For The Love started playing.
I scrolled through twitter to kill time until finally the bell rang. Slowly, a couple students here and then came inside and from what I can tell from their expressions, they were not gonna be as loud as second period.
My Girl started playing once the song ended and the second bell ran which indicated that students had two minutes left for get to class.
I was about to look down until I heard a voice.
"Morning Mr. Morrison." A cuban girl with beautiful fair skin and dark wavy brown hair, sweetly greeted as she walked over to her seat.
"Hey." Mr. Morrison greeted back.
She looked over to me and I swear I melted on the spot.
Smile idiot.
I awkwardly smiled but she already had looked down on her phone.
"Alright my TA Y/N is gonna go around and sign off on your homework from last night so take that out now please." Mr. Morrison instructed and I stood up and started off with the two students in front of me.
I went around and signed off the papers but made sure to leave the girl last to sign her papers. Weird, I know.
I need to act casual and not choke up. I'm usually never this nervous around someone...okay that's a lie.
I signed her papers and my eyes widened at the amount of participation points she had earned for the class.
"Holy shit, that's a lot." I whispered and I heard her lightly chuckle. Once I signed the paper she gave a small smile.
"Thank you." She whispered and I nodded. I walked back over to my desk, still questioning how in the hell I was going to survive the rest of the school year with her in this class.
~Later~
"So she's a tenth grader and you have no idea what her name is." Kara said and I shook my head.
"Nope." I mumbled, my face pressed against my textbook.
It was lunch and I was telling my friend about the girl I saw earlier today.
"Okay well tomorrow, find out her name and try to make her yours." She said and I chuckled.
"The first part is easy but the second part is impossible. How do I know whether she's straight or not?" I asked.
"Then gain some courage and become her friend then try to find out yourself. I don't know, use your homo magic." She said and I sat up from my textbook and raised my eyebrows at her.
"Homo magic?" I asked and Kara shrugged.
"Yeah. If she isn't gay, turn her gay." She replied and I rolled my eyes. I was about to make a snarky remark but that's when I saw her.
The girl from first period.
"That's her." I said and Kara followed my gaze.
"Oh her? That's Camila Cabello." She replied as we watched Camila walk with her friends to the cafeteria. "I think she's taken though. Let me check."
I dropped my smile once she said that. Dammit, of course I'd fall for a straight girl who's taken. That guy is one lucky son of a--
"Oh wait, they broke up. You might have a chance!" She said and I broke my stare from her.
"That's if she's either a lesbian, bisexual, or pansexual." I replied.
"Then try talking to her before she leaves." She said and I played with my fingers.
"I'll just talk to her tomorrow when her friends aren't around." I said and Kara facepalmed. The bell rang so Kara and I split from each other since we had different classes.
A week later
Turns out, Camila and I walk the same way to our next class. I noticed this since there was a time where I slowly put my stuff away in my bag to wait for Camila to leave first and then I realized she was walking the same way I usually go.
I immediately told Kara and now she's been texting me all morning to 'make my move' and use my 'homo magic' on Camila.
"Hey Mr. Morrison, have you seen my book? I've been looking all over for it and I thought that I might've left it here."
"I haven't seen it. Does the book have your name on it?" He asked.
"I think so, I don't remember." She sighed, walking back to her desk.
"We'll keep an eye out for it. You can check those books on the side to see if they have your name on it." He said and I looked through the files to see if I can match the barcode that Camila had checked out.
I typed it on my phone and showed Mr. Morrison the code.
"Match 95321 with one of books." He said and I walked back to my desk since Camila already was looking through them.
I didn't pay attention to them after that since I had to work on my Spanish homework that I forgot to finish.
As time passed, the bell was going to ring in a couple seconds and I decided to try to talk to Camila. I was gonna ask if she found her book, which basically gives me an excuse to talk to her.
The bell rang, breaking my thoughts.
Alright Y/N, you got this.
I waited for Camila to leave first and then casually acted like I was on my phone, picking a random song from my playlist.
Oh god what am I thinking? What if I stutter? Maybe Kara's wrong and she has a boyfriend? I should give up and not ask her anything. Wait, it's not even hard starting a conversation. It's not like I'm taking the SAT's or anything.
I realized that we were almost at the point where we split off into different directions and I felt my palms start to sweat.
I gotta start the conversation now or never.
"Hey I'm curious," I spoke loud which sort of scared Camila a little. "did you ever find your book?"
"Oh! Yeah I did. It was one of the books on the shelf." She said and I nodded.
"Oh that's good. B-Bye!" I said, quickly walking away but accidentally bumped into someone. I saw that she waved and continued walking to her class.
I hit my chest a couple times to see if I was breathing and coughed a little.
Jesus Christ I felt like I was about to have a heart attack on the spot. How am I supposed to have perfect courage if I can barely even get my words out?
