Antiseptics, machines, constant beeping, hovering nurses, shit food and the worst part, nosy neighbors.

"Luc, you could at least go for a walk, it's depressing to see you in this room the whole time." His mother whined. She was a stout, small woman, with silver eyes that he inherited. Her blonde hair was twisted into a bun above her head, probably his little sister's messy accomplishment.

"There's people out there, I'd rather not." The machine that drained fluids into her veins chimed annoying as his mother sighed.

"There's people everywhere dear. Go to the cafeteria, get yourself something to snack on, or something to drink." He sighed, shifting in his chair.

"I've got water and some -" His voice caught in his throat as he saw the nightstand beside his mother's hospital bed empty. He glanced back at his mother and her eye glimmered. "Mother." He sighed.

"I might have been craving a little snack and something to drink while you napped." She spoke proudly. He rolled his eyes and sighed again.

"Why must you make me suffer, mother?" He groaned as he stood. He stretched up, side to side and down. His mother watched him bemusedly until he started to grumble.

"Have fun." she sang, waving her stubby fingers at him.

Nurses buzzed around stations like bees, some glancing up at him and smiling, their eyes glancing at him momentarily or lingering on him.

"It's there anything I can do for you, Mister Tomé?" One of the nurses, out of all that looked at him, asked. He adjusted his hands into his hoodie, shrugging slightly. He looked her over; small, silver hair braided, blue eyes and pointed ears that barely peeked through. She was one of him.

"The cafeteria."  He replied. Her face brightened ever so slightly as she nodded, explaining how to get to the cafeteria. He gave her a short nod before she smiled, leaving him to his journey down to the first floor.

Some doors were opened, some had a full view to who was inside, others had curtains pulled. Conversations could be heard from open doors - simple, human issues.

Closed doors contained hushed conversations, that aren't meant for human ears. He sighed. He had no idea who thought it would be a great idea to have a hospital cater to both humans and people like him.

"Hold the elevator please!" A female voice rang through his head, making his hand shoot out to the elevator sensor. The door bounced back and a girl came in, barely out of breath. "Thanks!" She smiled up at him and he nodded, pressing the first floor button.

The ride from the third floor was silent, with soft elevator music playing in the background. The girl stood by the buttons, looking up at the changing numbers with a hum. She was dressed similarly to him, a hoodie and pajama pants, meanwhile he had sweatpants. A bun of dirty blonde hug off her head, just like his mother's but even messier. He glanced at her ears and they were rounded.

If anything, she'd probably have had forgotten he was there. It's what all humans do-

"Such a cloudy day, isn't it?" She let out a sigh, startling him out of his thoughts. Did she know he was there?

"Yeah." He hadn't looked at the sky. Ever since his mother has been cooped up in the hospital, he hasn't had the chance to looked up at the sky.

"Fresh air is so nice, but it would be more fresh if it was sunny, you know?"

"Sure." His kind have magic to them. Usually they can be seen by the human eye, but due to the magic they are enshrouded in, humans easily forget. A silent elevator ride should have been long enough to forget.

The doors of the elevator opened and she filed out, Luc waiting for some others to file in before he stepped out. After a couple nods and a crease in his lips, he made his way to the cafeteria.

The food didn't look appetizing. Pizza sounded good to him, but the smells from the location he was ordering from made his stomach turn. Instead, he opted for some granola bars, dry cereal and a bottle of water. He turned from the cashier, to be met with the girl from the elevator again.

"Judging from your attire, you must have been staying here way too long." Her voice was like a bell, annoying. He gave a sigh, looking down at her. Crystalline blue eyes and tan freckles peppering her otherwise pale face. She was like a porcelain doll that spoke and was slightly shorter than him.

"I would assume the same likewise." He replied, walking around her to leave the cafeteria. He could hear the patter of her feet on the ground as she followed. He groaned inwardly.

"Yeah, my dad's here. He has this mystery sick that the doctors can't classify yet, so we've been here for a couple days." She walked beside him, sipping on some frilly looking coffee drink.

"Neat." He hadn't asked.

"What about you?" He sighed.

"Doesn't concern you?" He shot her a glance before looking towards the elevator. "Nosy human." He muttered under his breath.

"Oh, come on, I won't tell."She coaxed behind her straw.

"Didn't ask." He stood in front of the elevators, watching as it came down from the fifth floor. The ride up will be a pain.

"What's got you so snappy?" She asked and Luc rolled his eyes.

"You." The elevator opened and he stood still, waiting until she went in. Before she could turn around to look at him, be bolted for the nearest stairwell. At least he would make a silent climb and she would be gone.

The stairwell he came out of was another hallway down from his mother's room, so he had to walk quickly, to avoid being seen. "How rude." He almost dropped his water. She was sitting in a chair out in the hallway, she had been nearly completely invisible to him. "Ditching me in the elevator like that." She glanced up at him with a near glare.

"Listen, I'd appreciate it if you would leave me alone."

"But why?"

"You're annoying."

"Wow, rude."

"You asked for it."

"My name's Rosalie." He stared at her.

"I didn't ask."

"What's  yours?"

"No."

"Nice to meet you, No." She was purposely annoying him and was being smug about it.

"Lucien. However, I go by Luc."

"Lucien, huh? Interesting name."

"Luc."

"Lucien."

"Goodbye." He turned, starting to walk back to his mother's room. She laughed, following behind.

"So Lucien, tell me about yourself." He hummed.

"I'd rather not." He quickened his pace and his mother's room came closer and closer. Once he reached the door, she stopped walking.

"I'll see you later Lucien!" She called after him, Luc cringing as his mother's ears perked at the female voice. He closed the door behind himself, retreating back to the sofa he had been sitting in.

"I see you've made a friend." His mother cooed.

"No, I've encountered a human pest." He grumbled. His mother smiled.

"Oh, a human? Well, that's too bad, she won't remember you after this."

"You know, I thought the same too mother, but she's found me three times. Each time she sees me, it's a continuation of a conversation." His mother's eyebrows furrowed.

"Are you sure she's human?" She asked.

"Her ears say so." She hummed.

"Interesting." Her eyes sparkled slightly as her voice trailed off.

Luc snacked, staring out the window. The skies were cloudy. How long had it been since he's gone out to stargaze?

"Fresh air is so nice, but would it be more fresh it it was sunny, you know?" Her voice echoed in his head. He pulled his phone out, opening up the weather app. The clouds should be gone by the evening, giving him a chance to stargaze.

Rosalie had sworn that when she first went to the elevator she had noticed something interesting about the boy. His tanned skin and his black hair contrasted against his silver eyes. She thought she saw pointed ears, but she must have been imagining it. In fact, she kept imagining pointed ears on almost half the staff.

"I'm going out for a walk, dad." Rosalie stepped out of the restroom, drying her face as she splashed her face with some water. "Call me if you need anything." Her father waved her away and she stepped out silently.

Just as she closed the door, she saw him again. Lucien, walking silently to the elevator. He really didn't seem to like her, but he was mysterious and well... hot.

She considered following him but she didn't want to come off as a creep. However, she probably already seemed like a creep . Riding the other elevator, they both arrived at the first floor, Luc ahead of her. She watched him head outside, his pace slowing as he started to wander around aimlessly.

Rosalie caught the cafe just before it closed, ordering another frappucchino. She could never get enough of those things. She headed back to the elevator, looking towards the exit.

The stars shone brightly, a couple clouds scattered around the sky. The moon glowed in the peppered sky. Rosalie wandered around the front gardens in a daze, her eyes taking in the magical aura of the gardens.

Rosalie continued walking until her eyes landed on someone sitting on a bench, a glowing pair of wings on their back. With a gasp, she blinked and when her eyes focused again, there were no wings, just fireflies scattering.

"Lucien." It's like he was glowing in the moonlight. Her heart almost started stuttering.

"Stalking me again?" He sighed.

"Maybe. Or maybe I wanted some fresh air." She fidgeted in her sweater before he gave another sigh.

"Well, sit down then." A smile curled on her lips as he exhaled slowly, leaning his head back to look up at the stars. Rosalie took sips from her frappe, taking in the views. Fireflies fluttered gardens, crickets sung softly, a nearby fountain bubbled gently.

The hospital was in the outskirts of the city of Kingwood. Just outside country Kingwood. Wonderful creatures that lived in secret, passing off as humans with a shroud of magic. The hospital sat high on the border of the magical country and the human city, a hospital that tended to both.

The moon was nearly full and a distant howl was hear that made the crickets silence. "Do you think that werewolves exist?" Rosalie asked out loud.

"Next, are you going to ask if vampires exist too?" Luc replied. She laughed.

"I'm serious." She glanced at him.

"You've been cooped up in that hospital for too long." He leaned forward, his elbows resting on his knees.

"You and me both." She sighed, looking up at the moon.

They sat in a comfortable silence, long enough that Luc sat back at looked up at the stars again. Rosalie stared at the small twinkling lights, listening to the sounds around them. The crickets sang again and a soft wind blew a pine-like smell through. She leaned her head back, listening to the soft breathing turn heavy beside her.

Rosalie turned slightly to look at him. His eyes were closed and his unruly black hair fell back. Long, dark eyelashes, thick eyebrows, a curious moon-shaped birthmark under his left eye that she nearly missed. Her eyes kept examining him, the way his hair caught the moonlight and glowed silver almost. Her haze wandered to his ears and she found her fingers going up to move his hair out of the way.

"Keep your hands to yourself." His eye slit open, glancing at her.

"What make you think I want to touch you?" Rosalie huffed, turning. Luc gave a sarcastic hum before standing.

"Head inside before the rain gets here." He stretched.

"There's going to be rain?" She asked, looking up for clouds.

"I can smell it. Plus, your 'werewolves' are howling about it." He quipped sarcastically but she looked awed.

"You can smell it?" She asked. He blinked slowly.

"Of course, a city girl like you wouldn't be able to tell." A city human.

"What does it smell like?" She bounced up, walking besides him as he headed inside.

"Humid."

"But how can you tell?"

"It's heavy."

"But how?"

"You're annoying."

"Tell me something I don't know." She was smug again. "Are you going to ditch me again or are you going to ride through the pain?"

"I have the slightest feeling that even if I tried to leave you, you'd follow me." He sighed loudly as they came closer to the elevator. They went in together, Rosalie hanging in the back with him.

"At least we got some fresh air." Rosalie offered. Luc remained silent for a bit.

"You're right." She gave an exaggerated gasp.

"Oh my gosh, you agreed to something I said!" Luc rolled his eyes.

"I'm never speaking to you, again." She hummed triumphantly.

"I still got you to agree." she sang and he rolled his eyes, praying that the doors would open soon.

"You're so full of yourself." She looked up at him and she swore she saw a smile on his face. A smile that made her cheeks flush and her heart flutter. The elevator chime and the doors opened. He motioned for her to go first and that was more than enough time to recollect herself and walk out.

As the doors closed behind him, nurses were rushing back and forth, the words over the intercom were unheard. As the two approached the nurses station, Rosalie leaned over the desk.

"What's going on?"

"Code blue in 3316." She hummed.

"What's code blue?"

"Someone who isn't supposed to die is trying." Luc answered.

"Wait, 3316?" She dropped her drink but Luc was quick to catch it. "That's my-" She ran down the hall, her bun bouncing wildly.

Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes and she stumbled out of the room after all the nurses and the doctors rolled out. Luc was leaning against the wall, looking up at her as she came out.

"Your drink." He held it towards her but she continued walking to him, putting her head to his shoulder. He almost dropped her drink at the contact.

"Lucien, he's gone." She whispered. "My dad, he's... He's gone."
