ETTVB 26: ONLY HOPE

FHAE's POV

"ALL HAIL THE QUEEN! ALL HAIL QUEEN FHAE GOLDSMITH!"

The humans all exclaimed as I walked towards the balcony just finishing the ceremonies in the hall and the bright sun almost blinded me as my sight darted to the walls separating the vampires and humans.

"My queen!"

"Smile for the camera!"

"Rejoice!"

"Marry me princess!"

They cheered but the pressure was twice the annoyance having Kyouta's ability installed in me aswell. Human thoughts were not in unison and it was making me deaf.

I waved at them and displayed my sweetest smile.

They all had pictures and banners of me as their cheering props. I do wish they would get tired of seeing my face. Haha.

I inhaled before exhaling deeply. Time for the speech that I constructed last night in preparation for today.

"My dear people." Everyone went silent. "From the bottom of my heart, I wish to send my endless appreciation to everyone who has supported my father who we all know has passed away from a terrible illness recently. With this, I, together with the newly elected council members also wish to send our apologies for keeping my father's death in secrecy. It is truly heartbreaking for me as his only daughter, but life goes on and I was told to continue on the mission he left..." I paused.

I heard them with mixed thoughts. Mostly condolences and some were happy that a rew regime commences.

It's all crap about him dying from an illness. And you readers know what happened. This is a story we all thought up with Lord Goldsmith's disappearance. I can't just say that he's a ghoul who I had killed to save the humans and vampires because that would cause an uproar that could end into a bloody war which would eliminate even the innocent lives.

"And now that I have been bestowed with the position of leading my dearest people, I will not make a promise... But a pact, that I will do my utmost best to be of service to everyone and maintain the peace between the human and vampire tribes."

"The treaty with the vampires will not waver and once the one hundred days is over, you, my people, will know the decision and I can only hope that you all would accept them just as I have. They are not enemies but are friends. Friends who risked their lives to protect the whole human council and have been protecting us for centuries."

"With the duty my father has left me, I do know I need more experience and knowledge before I can consider myself as a great leader so I will ensure that I will be dedicated to my responsibilities and I would love to have all of you in the coming years of growth of our kin. Thank you and have a pleasant day everyone." I bowed and a roar of applause and cheers overlapped the silence that filled the place moments ago.

"My lady.." The butler assisted me to return inside the palace since the speech is the only reason staying outside is longer.

Safety and protection has always been their issue as they do noy know if there are assasins or spies around which I still find silly because I have my special and dearest guests who would protect me - my family.

"So this is how human coronation really happens.." It was Kazuto who spoke. "It's full of..."

"Blood?" I heard Kazuya chuckled and I turned raising my brow. Standing behind me were my vampire family celebrating alongside the newly formed human council members.

Actually, Kazuya and Kazuto are very sleepy since it is daytime but they insisted on staying awake and celebrate and even reasoned that they have never celebrate any occassions together with me so my brothers/fiancès wish to make up for all gap we had growing up.

"Callidora..." Father called out and I approached him. He's been debating until the last second that I shouldn't rule a human land as I bear pure vampire blood but grandmother Selene reasoned otherwise.

FLASHBACK...

It happened just days ago before the immediate preparations of the coronation.

*Knock! Knock!*

My eyes flinched open and I sat up looking at the time. It was 9:37 pm. "Who is it?" I called out rubbing my eyes.

"Princess."  It was a human maid by the smell inhibited.

"Yes?"

"Your father, his highness, wishes to speak with you." I got up and walked towards the door amd when I opened it,  a young maid I usually see cleaning the hallway stands nervously at me.

"Where is he?"

"In the library princess."

"Tell me what is going in your mind  Callidora."

"By any means, what are you asking me such questions father? I just hope to lead and make everyone unified already to end all wars. Be it human to human or human to vampires."

"And is there no chance that I could stop you? This isn't the life you should have. You're not suppose to carry the burden of being with the humans my child." His voiced cracked.

"Father, I have not wished for anything extravagant because what I need is not a material thing. It has always been the goal in life. I know that you know it. That I... I would like to complete my role as the heiress."

"But my dear..."

"What are you so anxious about father?" I breathe out. "I do know that it is an impossible job in my case but... But to learn through experience is my aim. And... And it's not like they're guinea pigs who I will experiment throught leadership. I do understand your sentiment that I do not have sufficient experience but it wasn't just a choice but a decision I made for myself." I sighed.

"I guess I have no given choice but to tell you a consequence for chosing to rule the humans before picking a vampire to marry."

"A consequence?"

"Yes. Unless you choose one of your brother in one week, you are allowing other second in-line royal vampires to ask for your hand in marriage."

My brows went parallel. "Seriously?" That didn't sound very majestic.

"Yes dear. It's in accordance to the agreement made two human years ago. And I never expected that it will be occuring very early in our lineage."

I massaged my nerves with all the information my head is receiving. "O--kay... And you say it's a week?" He nodded. "What else should I need to know?"

"There's no turning back now." I snickered.

"I know."

END OF FLASHBACK...

"What is it father?" I gave him a small bow then regained my posture. I could see from his eyes the sleepy state he was in but like Kazuya and Kazuto, he's a stubborn one who wishes to watch the coronation. He simply shook his head and smiled.

"Congratulations and never forget that the whole family is here to support you not because you're the human queen but because you are family."

A smile drew wider on my face and I gave him a hug. "Thank you father.." He even pat my head.

Kazuya suddenly puts his arm on my shoulders and I didn't shook him off. There was no need to. He's my brother. "What's up Kazuya?" I pinched his nose as he moved his face near mine.

"Between Kazuto and Kyouta, who do you like better?" 

I gasped pushing him to the side and my family of vampires all giggled after all they are the only ones who could hear the faintest sound clearly. "You're crazy." I rolled my eyes at him.

"I'm serious sis." I turned back at him and he definitely was. "You have to chose soon or the race will go berserk to know if there will be the successor to the throne after father."

I sighed. "I understand that. And the consequences that I am facing for not chosing  before taking the throne... But I'm only one person and I can't do everything at once."

"You're wrong Fhae." It was Kazuto this time. "It's not that you're alone but beause it is the only choice we have... And the only hope we have for survival... The last strand of hope we have in fulfilling our duties and... feelings." then he stepped out of the room leaving us.

Leaving me with the question: Why?

A/N: i wrote this chapter weeks ago but because of classes and traveling overseas, I forgot to do it. Lol. Sorry guys!
