part one - i.
Okay so this story will be a little strange and I only say this because of the time period! Because I know the 'first part' won't be long enough to make a whole story and I really don't wanna make a third book I'll just put a Part One and Part Two of this book meaning different time period of when they're older. Confusing? Hope not.
Also in Mat and Aeriela POV.

I guess neither Nate and I knew what we were seriously getting ourselves into. I watched them in frusteration as he spoke to the higher pack members about a problem. Apparently Talaus had allot of debts and other business he didn't take care of. So when Nate killed and took his place as Alpha they were all placed on him now to take care of.
We had just finally finished high school-tutors, Alpha's don't have time to get up every morning and go to school-but Nate had already been under stress before. It hit him hard in the face after it was announced there was a new Alpha and so much pressure weighing on his shoulders. Everyone looked up to him even though he was pretty new. He knew what he was getting into.
And so did I. I had trouble with my own small pack. There was thirty-four of us now because the families of us who survived being taken by Ramses joined us. The others give their families their own choices to stay or go back to the pack. Across being families, they weren't gonna seperate. I have
Nate groaned as he hit the table roughly, "Just get them to stop. If they don't like it, they can leave. I don't want trouble makers in the pack if they don't agree in letting former members of packs back in. They is a pack about second chances."
Korey Hills sighed, an older wolf in the pack, "I have known these boys since they were little. It's hard for some for changes. Give them time. Our kind is dying, Alpha Nathan. We need all the members we can have."
"Which is why I want this Second Chance to happen. I'm not gonna let them all back, I will personally interview them and if I believe they deserve it-they can come back. Talaus threw a wolf out I heard just because he got a sarcastic with him. Didn't do anything wrong, just pissed Talaus off." he said.
"Alpha Nathan, I think we should talk about the incident in Charleswood. There's a group of Rogues there and everyone want them to leave. Since it's near Dallas, they believe they have the rights since it's a city but there causing some trouble. The women don't feel it's safe for their children." James Carson said.
Nate groaned as he brought his hands up to his forehead and rubbed his temple. He stood up, "Look all of you, just write down everything and put it on my desk. I will look at them all and email you my orders. I want full details of everything, I don't want anything left out. Alright?" he asked.
The olders wolves nodded before they looked at us both as they said their respects and left. Nate sat back down on his chair in the office and brought his hands up to his face, "One problem after another. I hardly sleep."
I stood up and walked over, "Just gotta take it one at a night, Nate. You're doing great."
He moved his hands as he scoffed and looked up at me like I was joking, "Great? Allot of them hate me. I don't even go by Nathan Redblood but Nathan Summers but they know us."
"Allot also love you for allot of the things your doing. Their just happy to have Talaus gone." I told him. "Our family wasn't hated until Talaus made us look like criminals."
"Four more families left." he said. "I won't have much of a pack left in months."
I chuckled, "Nate, relax. It's only the beginning. You got years and years to prove how much of a great Alpha you'll be. You're gonna do allot of great things for the pack."
"And what about yours?" he asked.
"Their doing well. Allot of us are enjoying the woods." I told him.
"I still don't understand why you choose to sleep out there. You know you all have homes ready to be filled in." he said.
The pack wanted to try something different from most packs. We all agreed since this wasn't gonna be our home we should sleep out in the woods. We have tents to sleep in and spend all day playing around in the woods. I thought everyone would hate sleeping out there since they have grown use to houses-I thought I would hate it after awhile. I mean, no TV!-but we like it. We don't live like Wild Rogues. We have tents, blankets, and allot of stuff you would see campers have. It's just we've been camping for the last seven months. We're happy, because we all have each other.
I shrugged, "We like it, Nate. You just making the forest privet for us is enough you can give us. Hopefully a few more months we'll be our of your hair."
"You sure only your boys know of the plan?" he asked, talking about Elijah, Gavin, Brayden, Will, Adan, Ian, and lastly Killian. "Be real dangerous if Alpha Lincoln finds out."
"Yes. I trust them." I said. "I should be heading back. Aeriela doesn't like being alone without for two long. She thinks the others are planning to somehow get her kicked out. Girl real paraniod."
"She always has her guard up. Wild Rogues are taught to always have them up." he said.
Aeriela.
I bit down into the walnut shell and it broke open. I took the insides out and ate them. I had a bunch already but I was hungry and it kept me busy. I was near the river, hearing the whooshing sounds relaxed me even though I didn't know how to swim. They don't really teach us to swim in the wild.
"Her skin so dark." I heard a girl say to her friends a dozen feet away from me who were with the four other young ones around my age. "She must tan so easily. After all those years with the wild rogues. She'll look fifty when she's thirty" I have never heard of 'rogue' before I met Mat. It was so confusing why people were calling me that even those hundreds of years ago they use to be just like us.
"She has allot of freckles around her face." a boy said. "She's so weird, she always walking around bare foots. Her feet are so dirty."
I looked down at my dirty feet and frowned. I looked at my arms that were pretty dark-I was dark skinned, I had ivory color skin before but always being outside I get russet-and realized that most of the girls here had very light russet color skin. I didn't think having dark russet skin was bad-it isn't bad right? I touched my face that had these 'freckles' and noticed how most of the girl had clear skin. I wanted to fit in so badly-I just still don't know how.
"Hey shut up." I heard Ulric said and my back stiffen. "You just wish you could be as tan as her. And she just lived differently so stop it."
"Catching feelings, Arkwright?" a boy said teasingly.
"No. I just know when not to be an asshole." Ulric scoffed.
"Ulric, wait!" I heard a girl I think name is-Harley?-say. I saw them in the corner of my eyes the oppsite way the small group was and I turned my eyes to see Ulric stop. He turned to look at the young one. She had long corn like color hair and would catch allot of attention with her face I suppose. "We're still on for tonight in the river after dinner? I have my brother believing I'll be with Maine so no one should be bothering us."
Ulric shrugged, "Of course." He brought his finger up to her chin and grinned down at her, "Can't wait."
"Aeriela!" I heard my voice and I jumped. I turned to look at the group of young ones. A boy-Rascal I believe and two years older than me-said. Two girls and another boy was with him. He was holding onto the rope they had been tied to a near right next to the river and everyone would swing off of it. He waved at me from the rocks, "Come join!"
I stared at him for a moment before shaking my head.
He chuckled, "Come on, it's fun! Allot of us do it. Even it's a real hot humid day, it'll be very cooling."
I bit my bottom lip as I looked out into the river. Maybe it won't be to deep-how deep can rivers be? Everyone does do it and I did want to fit in. I'm sure the water isn't going to be to deep and everyone else seems to think it's fun. I got up from the ground and went over to them.
I got up on the boulder and Rascal handed the rope to me, "I-I never done this before."
"It's easy. You're gonna run off the rock while holding onto the rope. When you swing out a little, you're gonna let go and fall into the river. Good way to quickly get wet instead of stepping slowly into the water." He came near me and started to go behind me, "Here, I'll show you-" I growled at him warningly and he stepped back, holding his hands up.
I stopped myself, "S-sorry. Force of habit."
He put his hands down, "It's alright. Can I help you?" he asked and I nodded. He went behind me and took my arms. I felt trapped with his arms around me and my back stiffen. "Grab onto the rope with both hands and run quickly."
I took a deep breaths to relax and when he moved his arms I ran like he said. When my feet didn't touch the ground anymore my knees came up a little and I held onto the rope with my life.
"Let go!" I heard them yell at me. I listened to what they said. My hands uncleached and I fell into the water. When I fell in, the cold water made my blood turn cold and I expected to touch the ground quickly but I didn't. My eyes opened as I sanked a little and I brought my arms up to reach for something.
Water filled my mouth and I couldn't breathe. I swam to the top of the water and when I reached the top I gasped for help. I sanked though, making my blood rush quickly and I panicked. I splashed around, gasping for air as more water filled my mouth.
Finally I started to go under and water filled my mouth. It went down my throat and I sanked lower into the river under my body was being flown with the stream. I couldn't breathe, my body was starting burn for air. I regretted ever trying this and new I wouldn't be doing again-if I made it out alive. My vision became dizzy and my body started to stop working.
I only felt something grab my hand before I started to black out.
*
I woke up with this feeling I was going to throw up and I was right. I knew I was on my back so I turn to the side as I threw up liquid from my mouth and I sucked in it air. I sucked the most beautiful thing I will never take for granted again. I started to cough heavily but I could breathe.
"You idiot!" I heard Ulric.
"Hey man, I didn't know she couldn't swim! Ahh!" I heard Rascal. I breathed heavily as I lifted my head and watched as Ulric was on top of Rascal and hitting his face. Ulric was dripping wet and his face was filled with anger. It took two older wolves to get Ulric off Rascal. Ulric looked down at me and I swallowed the hard lump in my throat.
"You okay?" he asked.
I just nodded.
Mat
I ran in wolf skin until I reached the pack. Killian was waiting for me and when I was right in front of him I turn back into my human skin. I jumped on him and wrapped myself around him, "Missed you." I said as I kissed him.
He chuckled, "Not as much as I missed you." he said. His smile disappeared then and my eyebrows furrowed together.
"What's wrong?" I asked.
He was quiet for a second before sighing, "Aeriela had a little accident-she's fine!" he quickly added before I panicked. He only let me get as far as my eyes widening. "She jumped off the rope into the water. The girl knows she can't swim but still did it. Ulric got her out and had to preform CPR. She's in her tent."
"Oh." I said. "I should go see her. She must be scared to death."
He nodded, "She probably be happy. She demanded we go get you but we promised you'll be back soon. It happened almost an hour ago."
After grabbing a t-shirt and shorts I went over to Aeriela small tent. I tapped on the top of the tent before lowering down to the entrance, "Peek a boo." Aeriela looked up at me with wide eyes before she realized it was me. Her hair was damp but she had brushed it. Good girl. Her eyes then turned hard and she turned away so her back faced me. I frowned before climb in and laid down next to her on my belly since the tent was mostly made for one. She strongly smelled like floral lotion. "I heard what happen. Why you mad at me?"
She scoffed, "You weren't here."
"I didn't know it was gonna happen, Aeriela." I said. "I'm here now though. Wanna talk about it?"
"No." she stubbornly said.
"Alright." I said, nodding. I sniffed her arm, "Why do you smell like this?"
She huffed heavily out her nose, "I tried some of that white stuff you call lotion. I thought since it was white it'll make my skin lightener but apparently not."
I couldn't help but chuckle at her, "Because that's not what it's for. It's to make your skin soft and you never smelt so nice before Aeriela." I teasingly said but she wasn't having it today. She turn and crawled out of the tent. I sighed heavily, knowing she was really angry this time. I crawled out and stood up next to her, "Aeriela look, I'm sorry I wasn't here. If I was, it would never have happen. But Ulric got you out and you're alive. I can't always be here."
"Why not?" she coldly said, glaring up at me. "You're suppose to take care of me! You're suppose to help teach me things and you're always busy! No one likes me and I don't like them! Why can't you be here for me?"
"Aeriela, stop it." I said coldly. "I'm an Alpha, I can't just think about you! I also have to think about the whole pack! You're not a baby, stop attaching yourself to my leg."
She breathed heavily out her nose and growled at me, "Stupid pack girl!"
I growled back at her-a real growl of a wolf. Not her little mocking one-and her cold look vanished, "Stop throwing an trantrum!"
Her cold look returned, "I don't know what that is so I don't have to listen to you!"
I groaned loudly, "You're so difficult!"
"Then forget all about me! I don't care." she coldly said as she quickly went back into her tent and zipped it closed.
I stared down at it for a moment before sighing heavily. I lost my temper with her again when I try so many time to remain calm with her since she was just so innocent. Sure wild but still innocent to the world she never knew about. She reminded me so much of. . .well, me.
