Pt. 6
Duskpaw padded quietly next to his new semi-friends, wishing in the back of his mind that Okai would stay gone. Unfortunately his attempts were futile as Okai walked with long strides next to him, Duskpaw tried to keep up with the large cat, not noticing he was straying away from the group.
"Hey, can you not walk ten fox lengths away from me for a change?" Dawnpaw said with an exasperated tinge.
"Sorry" Duskpaw lowered his head and slowed his pace, watching as Okai continued on without them.
Duskpaw was vaguely aware of Dawnpaw giving the two new apprentices a tour of the borders.
He paid no attention to the conversation though, more focused on how bright everything looked.
The colors of the wooded forest increased tenfold from what Duskpaw had seen them before the rockfall. It was new, but it seemed like a good new.
"What do you think, Duskpaw?" Rainpaw asked, the green-eyed she-cat tilted her head slightly along with the question.
"Uh- sorry what were you saying?" Duskpaw questioned with his head bowed slightly, just so they wouldn't be too mad that he hadn't been paying attention.
"What do you think the other clans think about the rockfall, and if they are alright?" Rainpaw explained with the most patient tone Duskpaw had ever heard.
"Oh, well, I don't really know how they'd be affected as much as us, we live on and under an actual cliff, seriously- what were the trees going to do?" Duskpaw cut off his rant with a little chuckle and continued looking at the shrubs that covered the ground.
"I'm not sure if trees would fall over like rocks do, I mean- they have roots right?" Rainpaw stated.
"I wonder how the birds were affected, imagine just flying around and being a bird, and suddenly you see the world shaking!" Dawnpaw exclaimed.
Rainpaw froze and seemed to shake herself out of a memory, Duskpaw wasn't sure if there was enough curiosity on his mind to even question it.
Ashpaw noticed as well and nudged her in a comforting way, an interesting reaction to a friend's distress, especially since they were- well- Duskpaw didn't completely understand what they were.
They seemed kind of like they shared the distress in a weird way.
'Well I guess I'm not really one to talk about weirdness' Duskpaw mused to himself.
"Hey- there is a river here! Do you wanna go swimming?!" Rainpaw asked, seemingly as excited as a kit with a new moss-ball.
"Uh-uh well, it's sort of rough right now- isn't it? Don't you think, Duskpaw?" Dawnpaw asked desperately.
Duskpaw looked at the river a short walk away, seeing Okai, for the first time in a while, nodding his head excitedly. He simply shook his head.
"I don't know- it looks fine to me?" Duskpaw said, the last part of it coming slightly as a question.
Rainpaw apparently decided to prove her point of the water being fine by sprinting toward the river and splashing inside of it.
She looked at her companions with a wide grin and nodded her head vigorously, encouraging them to join her.
Ashpaw also decided the water was fine, leaping in a way that made Rainpaw's splash look like a water droplet.
Dawnpaw sulked over to the water along with a more or less the same Duskpaw.
///////
Dawnpaw walked with her brother to the rushing water, praying to StarClan that they wouldn't be pulled under.
Dawnpaw did not like water.
No way.
Duskpaw could have whatever complex came up this time, but Dawnpaw would not have any part of that wetness.
She sat down under one of the few trees in the arena, which was loosing leaves fast.
Leafbare was coming soon.
