Pt.4

Starts immediately after the 3rd chapter :)

Dawnpaw padded back into camp, having just caught a fairly plump mouse, and wore an expression of great Pride. Her mentor, Barkleaf wore an even prouder expression on his chestnut colored face.

Dawnpaw quickly dropped the still slightly warm mouse onto the fresh kill pile, and went straight to the apprentices' den. But a glimpse of grey caught her attention.

She saw her brother's striking blue eyes they both shared, he looked over at her.
He was awake!!

Dawnpaw ran over as fast as she could, all but crashing into him, he tensed up for a moment before accepting the contact, and nuzzled into her.

Dawnpaw was hopping around excitedly as her brother simply stared. She was circling him and he must be exhausted, but no, he'd been asleep for three sunrises! He couldn't possibly be tired!

"Are you alright?! When did you wake up?! What happened?!" Dawnpaw questioned quickly.

           ////////

Duskpaw was overwhelmed to say the least.

"I-I'm alright? I woke up a little while ago... and you tell me?" Duskpaw answered hesitantly.

'I wanna go back to sleep' He thought to himself.

"Uh uh uhhh" Okai sang from behind Duskpaw.

Duskpaw groaned and everyone present gave him a look that said 'what are you doing bug-brain?'.

"Duskfoot, pal, you can't go to sleep, you wanna know why?!"

"My name isn't Duskfoot and yeah sure why not tell me something"

Duskpaw was well and painfully aware of the eyes boring into his head and general area.

"'Cuz you can see me!!!!" Okai beamed at him, before of course stretching his legs all the way out.

The camp suddenly felt very, very small, for how big this cat was, and crowded, and compact, and- and- and-

Duskpaw started to breathe in gasps, he clamped a paw over his nose and muzzle, determined to not show weakness, or fear- or whatever it was Warriors did.

This however did not work at all.

Duskpaw breathed through his own paw, then his vision swam in front of him.

    //////////

Dawnpaw stared for only a moment before rushing over to her brother, trying to get him to lean on her, what was unusual was how quickly he complied to the contact.

Dawnpaw all but lowered him onto the ground, she tried to focus him enough to match her own breathing, trying to even it out.

    //////

Duskpaw was trying to help his sister out, trying being the big word in there.

It really wasn't working for him, not at all convenient at the moment, in the middle of camp. If anything this was extremely embarrassing for him, no one liked him anyway.

He decided to just stop freaking out, just be numb with himself, that's alright. Isn't it?

So, what he did was perfectly justified.

He held his breath until he needed to breathe to, well, survive.

He sat down, layed down, and breathed in and out.

He was so focused he didn't see how Snowheart was in front of him, and how Okai was laying a foxtail's length away from him, seemingly taking up a third of the camp space.

He just breathed and closed his eyes, forgetting about the world around him.

Nothing, he saw nothing, just darkness, but the darkness was calm now, nowhere near as terrifying as it used to be.

He stood up, his eyes still slightly screwed shut, and walked towards the apprentices' den, calmly.

        //////////

Dawnpaw watched her brother with confusion, what was he doing?

He was just having a fit with what looked like not enough air for his lungs.

But he walked into the apprentices' den like he had no worries.

Snowheart sighing caught her attention.

"Well, I guess he isn't- I guess he got better? He seems better? I'm just going to go check on him, you stay with- whatever you were doing before- that."
The white she-cat rambled before gently padding into the apprentices' den.

Dawnpaw was done for the day, Barkleaf had told her she'd done such a good job with early hunting he'd give her the day off.

She trotted quietly into the apprentice den.

She saw the exchange going on.

  ////////

Duskpaw was only slightly listening to the she-cat in front of him.

More focused on his numbness, although he'd caught a few words.

Something like, "You're healing incredibly fast" or "I can't believe you haven't had more serious consequences".

Funny, he's got a cat triple the size of normal ones, that no one could see, and he supposedly had no consequences of the rockfall.

How humorous.

I never realized how much I love leaving people on cliffhangers XD
