Soap's Pain

This takes place after Operation Kingfish and before MW 2.

Also yes this is a small one shot, based off my own head-canons and my AU.

October 9th, 2013.
Gaz quickly walked down the hall of the hideout he and the rest of the squad were hiding, after the failed mission from yesterday occurred. His comrade, Lieutenant John "Soap" MacTavish was badly injured during the retreat. He stopped when he saw Sergeant Lynn "Aqua" Blayney walking towards him.
"How is he?"
"He'll be ok. Nothing too serious, he was lucky he only came out with some minor flesh wounds. He will heal quickly."
Gaz felt a wave of relief wash over him. The squad's field medic, Lieutenant Mystique "Breeze" Gallagher, treated to his wounds after they got him on the jet.
"He's awake. You can go in and see him. Everyone else came out alright, just some minor bruises and scratches, but nothing serious."
"Thanks again, Aqua."
The blonde medic nodded before she kept heading down the hall. Gaz walked in, and saw Soap sitting up, his head wrapped with a bandage, along with his right arm and left lower leg. He was glad to see him alive.
"James."
"John."
Gaz walked over to Soap, before leaning up against the wall. Soap let out a sigh and he looked down at the ground, avoiding Gaz's eyes. There was silence between them for a while.

"So, I reckon you're the new captain now."
Gaz sighed heavily before responding.
"Yes, but this is not the way I would have imagined it to happen. How are you holding up? You had me and the others worried."
Soap lifted his gaze slowly to look at Gaz.
"Well, I'm alive, so that's something. But..."
Flashes of the mission from yesterday hit Soap like a brick wall. Grief clouded his eyes as the last thing he was of his mentor, Captain John Price, was him laying that grass field, with Russian soldiers surrounding him, then the jet door closing, as Soap was held back by Gaz. He reached his arm towards the door and called out for his mentor, a tear he felt run down his bloodied cheek, then it went dark.
"I... I couldn't him."
Gaz could hear the grief in Soap's voice. Gaz's heart ached. Price was like a father to both of them. He recalled the moment from yesterday, feeling like apart of him died when they had to leave Price behind, and feeling completely helpless to help his mentor. Price had ordered them to go on the jet and leave, Ghost tried to help him, only to be commanded by Price again to leave and get on the jet. Reluctantly, Ghost followed his commands. Gaz was dragging an unconscious, wounded, and bloodied Soap to the jet. Gaz knew that Price had sacrificed himself so the rest of them could get to safety. But that didn't make it any easier.

"Soap, it wasn't your fault. He stayed behind so the rest of could get out alive. But I know that doesn't make it any easier. But it's not your fault, John."
Soap, still grief-stricken, looked at his friend, who was more like a brother to him. He was glad he had his friend/brother there with him. After all, he was the other closest person to Price, besides Nikolai, who did not know what happened yet.

July 17th, 2014.
Soap awoke in an unfamiliar room, but heard the familiar voice of Breeze.
"Soap? Soap, can you hear me?"
Soap blinked a few times as his vision was blurry, but he saw the familiar red headed medic look down at him, and her voice echoed.
"B...Breeze?"
Once everything became clear, he heard her sigh in relief, and saw her turn her head to someone else, probably Aqua.
"He's awake."
Soap tried to sit up, only to be stopped by Breeze.
"Whoa, not so fast. You were badly injured. We don't need you damaging anything else."
Breeze's voice was gentle, as it normally was. Soap laid back.
"What... happened?"
Breeze sighed, not wanting to tell him, but knew that he needed to know.
"The mission went awry, you blacked out after you were nearly hit with a bomb, you got hit with some debris and blacked out, sustaining some injuries. James, however... the Russians, they... I'm sorry Soap, they got him."
Soap froze. They killed James? He didn't want to believe it. First Price, and now Gaz. Two of some the closest people to him, both now gone.
"We couldn't find him after you and him got caught in the debris. We don't know if he's dead, or alive, so he's M.I.A. I'm so sorry, Soap."
Soap could hear the regret in her voice, her eyes glazed over with sadness. Soap swallowed hard, before asking hesitantly about the others.
          "Was... anyone else injured?"
"Yes, Aurora, Quetzal, Raptor, Scout, Star Blaze, Ghost, Roach, and Spark all sustained injuries, but nothing life threatening. The rest, minor scratches and bruises."
"Well... at least they are alive."

Sorry for the kinda sloppy writing, this was just something quick I wanted to get out.
