Chapter 6
The couple's wedding was just a week away, and the upcoming days promised to be hectic for everyone involved. Suhani's elder brother, Krish, who had arrived from Canada two days ago, was already in the thick of the preparations.
Naina and Krish took on the responsibility of distributing the wedding cards and were set to join Suhani, Aman, and Ami at the showroom later. The trio was busy picking out wedding outfits. The Raichand family, except for Priti and Rahul, was also joining them at the showroom after finishing their own round of card distribution. Meanwhile, Rahul, despite being the groom, didn't quite feel like one. The way he was being treated, it was as if he were the groom's brother instead. "Mummaa, it's my wedding, not Vihaan's! You're disturbing the groom instead of his brother," Rahul complained, half-joking, half-annoyed. Priti, not missing a beat, reached up and playfully tugged his ear, a hint of mock anger in her voice. "Mumma it's hurting!" he whined.
"Jii Maharaj," Priti retorted, "we have to put up with your tantrums too, don't we? 'Mummy, my wedding should be like this, it should be like that.' So do some work yourself too! You expect the prince treatment, huh? Well, expect that from Suhani, not from me! Now stop complaining and get moving. Half the money's already gone into your wedding cards."Rahul, realizing he was defeated, followed his mother, grinning his teeth like a little kid who had just been scolded but knew his mother was right.
In the showroom
Ami, Vani, Dhruti, and Suhani began sifting through outfits, each with their own style and preferences in mind. The gentlemen, meanwhile, were aimlessly wandering around, occasionally glancing over to check on the women's progress. "Bhabhi, look at this green one... it'll look good on you!" Vani exclaimed, holding up a delicate dress. Dhruti shook her head, "Vanu, she's the bride. She needs something heavier than that light piece." Ami, always practical, chimed in, "But aunty, what's the problem? Light clothes are more comfortable." Suhani smiled, agreeing partially with Ami. "I completely agree, Ami, but when you wear something a little heavier, you really feel like a bride." "Exactly! The clothes should just match the vibe," Vani added enthusiastically. "Yesss!!!" Dhruti agreed with a nod. After browsing for a while, Suhani's eyes landed on five dresses that captured her attention. She headed to the fitting room with Vani to try them on, while Ami continued looking for her own outfit.
As she browsed, she unknowingly wandered into the same section as Vihaan."May I help?" Vihaan offered with a smile.Ami looked up, surprised but grateful. "Yupp, sure."Vihaan started scanning the racks, searching for something that would suit Ami's style. His eyes landed on a stunning piece. "I think this will look good on you!" he suggested, holding up a yellow lehenga.Ami glanced at it and shook her head with a chuckle. "I'm not the bride, Vihaan."Vihaan laughed. "So, you think this is a bride's level dress?" "Yeah, I mean, I can't handle heavy clothes," Ami admitted. Vihaan, taking her comment seriously, quickly found another option. "Ohhh, then you should try this... yellow suits you!" Ami's eyes lit up. "Nice choice, yaar! I'll try it! Stay here and tell me if it's good or not!" Excitedly, she disappeared into the fitting room. Vihaan found himself smiling at her playful and childlike excitement. After a few minutes, Ami emerged, wearing the yellow lehenga. She looked radiant, her natural beauty amplified by the simple elegance of the outfit.Vihaan was momentarily speechless, unable to take his eyes off her. "You look... amazing," he finally managed to say, his voice filled with admiration.
The group, exhausted from shopping, decided to take a break in a nearby park. The boys went off to fetch some food while the ladies sat on the grass, indulging in some light-hearted gossip. "I'm getting flashbacks of my wedding," Naina said, smiling nostalgically. "So true, Naina. Even I'm having flashbacks of how I did my wedding shopping and then all the rituals," Dhruti added with a sigh. Priti chuckled, "Ahhh, don't make me cry!" Vani, still a bit resistant to the idea of marriage, voiced her thoughts. "But for me, this is gross... like, why would you want to leave your house and live in a completely unknown house, making them your whole world?" Suhani, always the voice of wisdom, gently replied, "Vanu dear, I do agree with you, but love is the most beautiful thing in this world. If you love a person, you're ready to be with them and make his world yours. No matter what people think of you, you care what they think of you! You can face any challenge in your life if you have them by your side. Their happiness becomes your happiness, their sorrow your sorrow... it's all love, dear! Look at your brother, he is making my world his own world! He is considering my dad as his own dad, and I am considering your mom as my own mom, all because she is the one whom Rahul loves! She plays an integral role in Rahul's life, so I should respect her and give her the same amount of love Rahul gives to her... it's all about love, dear."She paused, smiling as she added," You know that line, शीष महल ना मुझको सुहाए, तुझ संग सुखी रोटी भाए." Vani looked at her with newfound admiration. "Bhabhi, that's so deep!" Suhani nodded, "That is why it is beautiful." Ami, ever the playful one, teased, "Humari 1008 param pujya baba Suhani." Naina, with a knowing smile, said, "Zyada udd matt, teri bhi shaadi hogi." Suhani laughed, "Haan, aur tab tu bhi utni hi khush hogi jitni main hu!" Ami's thoughts drifted as she started to think of moments shared with Vihaan. Suhani noticed and snapped her fingers in front of her. "Lost somewhere?" Suhani asked, snapping Ami out of her thoughts. Ami shook her head, trying to hide the blush creeping up her cheeks. Just then, the gentlemen arrived with handfuls of snacks and cups of chai. Ami, always full of ideas, suddenly suggested, "How about we keep every function together?" Rahul, ever supportive, quickly responded, "I have no problem." Ami, rolling her eyes playfully, said, "Jiju, I wasn't asking you. 😑 Of course, you'd say yes." Rahul smiled sheepishly. "Ahh, I'm sorry."
Darshil chimed in, "No problem." Piyush nodded, "That's a great idea." With most of the votes in favor of Ami's idea, the family happily agreed. After enjoying their snacks, they began to depart. Before leaving, Rahul approached Suhani."See you tomorrow," he said casually, starting to walk away. Suhani, surprised by his abrupt departure, called after him, "Huh?!" But Rahul kept walking, not looking back."Rahul!!! Listen!" Suhani shouted after him. Rahul, clearly teasing her, called back over his shoulder, "I don't care."Suhani, not one to back down, crossed her arms and shouted back, "Then I don't care too!!!!!" Rahul couldn't help but smile to himself, knowing their playful banter would continue tomorrow.
