Chapter 1
AT SHARMA'S HOUSE
It was a pleasant morning when Suhani's alarm started beeping, pulling her out of her sleep. She groggily opened her eyes, stretched, and then headed straight to the bathroom. After getting ready in her usual attire, she went downstairs for breakfast.
"Good morning, Mummy! Good morning, Papa!" Suhani greeted cheerfully as she joined her parents at the table.
"Good morning, beta!" Naina responded with a warm smile.
"Good morning, Suhu!" Aman added, using Suhani's nickname affectionately.
Suhani looked around. "Where's Ami?" she asked, noticing her sister’s absence.
"Soo rahi hai," Naina replied, shaking her head at her younger daughter's laziness.
Aman cleared his throat, catching Suhani’s attention. "Beta, you’re not going to the hospital today."
Suhani frowned, confused. "Why, Papa?"
"Because another guy is coming to meet you," Ami chimed in, suddenly appearing from nowhere and plopping down at the table.
Suhani groaned in frustration. "Papa, this is not fair. I've already taken four days off just to meet guys who weren’t my type. I don’t want to waste more time; my patients are waiting!"
Naina sighed sympathetically. "You’re right, Suhu, but your marriage is important too. We understand, but we have to go through this process, don't we?"
"But we can meet after working hours or have a family dinner or something," Ami suggested, casually taking a bite of her poha.
Aman nodded in agreement. "You’re right, Ami. I’ll talk to the Raichands. I’m sure they’ll like the idea."
Suhani’s eyes widened in surprise. "Wait—what’s this about the Raichands?"
"If you agree to the marriage, that’ll be your surname," Naina replied with a grin.
"Wait, am I actually meeting someone from the Raichand family? Like, literally *the* Raichand family?" Suhani asked, astonished.
Ami gasped dramatically. "Di, what if he’s Rahul Raichand?"
Aman chuckled. "Well, your mother didn’t get Aman Mathur, so we’re getting your sister Rahul Raichand!"
Ami turned to Aman with wide eyes. "Papa, is his name really Rahul?"
Naina smiled knowingly. "Fortunately, yes!"
Suhani shook her head in disbelief. "Am I getting pulled into a *Kabhi Khushi Kabhi Gham* situation?"
Ami laughed. "Papa, if you had named Di ‘Anjali,’ they’d be the perfect couple—Anjali Sharma weds Rahul Raichand!"
Aman chuckled. "If I’d known, why wouldn’t I have done it?"
Ami turned to her mother. "What about Krish?"
Naina replied, "Your brother said if Suhu agrees to this one, he’ll definitely come to her wedding."
Suhani rolled her eyes. "Even my brother is in on this marriage plan!"
AT RAICHAND'S HOUSE
Morning dawned, but Mr. Rahul Raichand had no intention of getting up. However, knowing his mother would not tolerate his laziness, he begrudgingly got out of bed, completed his morning routine, and went downstairs.
"Good morning, ladies!" Rahul greeted with a charming smile.
"Good morning, bachha!" Priti, his mother, responded lovingly.
"Good morning, junior Raichand," Dhruti, his chachi, added with a grin.
Rahul looked around. "Where are the gentlemen?"
"In the garden," Priti informed him.
"On my way to greet them," Rahul said, heading outside.
As he stepped into the garden, he called out, "Good morning, gentlemen!"
"Good morning, man!" Piyush, his father, replied with a nod.
"Good morning, Mr. Late Lateef!" Darshil, his chachu, teased.
"Good morning, bhai!" Vihaan, his younger brother, chimed in with a grin. "Learn from me, bro. I’m younger, but I still know how to wake up on time!"
"Stop it," Rahul shot back playfully. "I’m on time too, but it looks like Vanu is still sleeping!"
"On my way!" Vihaan announced, ready to wake their sister.
Rahul laughed. "I’m joining too!"
The two brothers went upstairs to wake Vani Raichand, their younger sister. As they entered her room, they both jumped on her bed.
"Ouch! You guys, stop it!" Vani protested, trying to fend them off. "How can you ruin someone’s peaceful morning?"
"Don’t you want to get up for college?" Vihaan teased.
"Who’s going to work today?" Vani asked, rubbing her eyes.
"All of us," Rahul replied nonchalantly.
"Ayyyee buddhu, it’s your rishta today!" Vani revealed, grinning. "We’re going to look at a girl for you!"
Vihaan’s eyes widened in surprise. "Wait, is that really happening?"
Rahul stared at them, shocked. "How come it’s my rishta and I didn’t know about it?!"
"Because you didn’t pay attention when Mumma came to your room!" Vani teased.
Rahul groaned. "Ahhh, I hate this! I should’ve slept in today. No wonder everyone’s so happy—Mom and Chachi are in the kitchen making sweet dishes and yummy breakfast! If this is what I get for a proposal, I’d do it every day!"
Vihaan grinned. "So we’re getting a bhabhi, right?"
Vani nodded excitedly. "Yup!"
"Hey, I haven’t even met the girl yet, and you two are already planning!" Rahul protested.
"I’ve seen bhabhi. Mom showed me her picture," Vani said, a twinkle in her eye.
Vihaan leaned in. "How’s she?"
"She’s gorgeous," Vani replied, "like Taylor Swift gorgeous!"
Rahul raised an eyebrow. "Can I see her?"
"Shut up!" Vani laughed. "You can see her when you meet her."
Just then, Chachi called them downstairs for breakfast.
THIRD-PERSON VIEW
The three siblings came downstairs and sat at the dining table for breakfast.
"So, are you ready, Rahul?" Priti asked, eyeing her son with concern.
Rahul shrugged. "I just found out a few minutes ago, and I don’t know how to react!"
"There was a call from Sharma's," Piyush said, addressing everyone. "Suhani isn’t ready to meet at noon, so they decided we’ll meet tonight for a family dinner and the proposal. Does anyone have a problem with that?"
"No," Priti answered quickly.
"It’s very good that Suhani is giving more importance to work than the wedding," Darshil commented approvingly.
"But it’s her wedding," Dhruti interjected. "She should give it equal attention!"
Vihaan rolled his eyes. "Maa, it’s not her wedding yet. She’s just meeting a boy for the wedding!"
"It’s almost the same, Vihu!" Dhruti retorted.
Rahul chuckled. "By the way, what’s her name?"
"Suhani Sharma," Vani answered before anyone else could. "But Di, if her name were Anjali, it would be so cute—Rahul Raichand weds Anjali Sharma! But Suhani works for me too."
"It works for me too. I always wanted an Anjali," Rahul mused.
Priti smiled. "Well, she can be your Anjali."
Rahul nodded. "What’s her profession?"
"You should ask her that, not us," Darshil advised. "When you meet her, talk to her, clear all your doubts, ask all your questions, and most importantly, make your confessions. Confess everything."
"Okay," Rahul said, pushing his chair back. "I’m heading to the office."
Piyush shook his head. "Earth Con is closed today!"
Rahul groaned. "Ahhh, Papa, please! If she’s going to work, why can’t I?"
"It was a sudden decision," Dhruti explained gently. "Please stay here, dear."
IN THE EVENING
Suhani arrived home from the hospital, exhausted. She tossed her bag onto the couch and sank down, resting her head in her hands. Naina noticed her daughter’s weary state and came over.
"What happened, Suhu?" Naina asked, concerned.
"Just a hectic day, Mom," Suhani replied with a sigh. "Well, I’m going to get ready for dinner. You be ready too."
"We still have an hour," Ami pointed out.
"I don’t," Suhani muttered as she trudged upstairs.
An hour later, Suhani came downstairs, dressed in a blue floral kurti. Blue was her favorite color—it represented peace, love, and often symbolized serenity, stability, inspiration, and wisdom.
Meanwhile, at the Raichand house, Rahul was getting ready alone, his mind filled with endless thoughts. A sudden knock on the door pulled him out of his reverie. He opened it to find his mother standing there. Priti walked in, took some kajal from her eyes, and placed it behind Rahul’s ears.
"My handsome bachha is a man now," Priti said with pride.
"I’m still a kid, Maa," Rahul whined, hugging his mother tightly.
