Chapter 6: Unthinkable
De'Maria's POV:
I walk off the steps off the school bus and down the trail to my steps of the door. I pulled my key out of my backpack to unlock the door and walk into the house. As I walked in, the smell of prime rib, buttery potatoes, fresh corn, and freshly baked dinner rolls filled my nostrils putting me in a daze. It's quick early for dad to be cooking dinner but I don't mind him cooking this good of food. I ain't even gone complain. I noticed my dad was mixing chocolate cake batter in a large bowl and didn't even realize that I walked in because our ears were drowning in the sound of his blasting music blaring out the sound system in our house.
Me: "Hey, Dad!" I shouted over the music as I entered the kitchen.
Dad: "Wassup, Baby" he hugged me with one arm and went back to singing along while mixing the cake batter.
Me: "Do you need some help?" I offered.
Dad: "Nah," He shook his head. "But, have a seat." He nodded his head in a direction of a chair that sat across the counter from him. He turned off the music so that you could hear nothing but him cooking. I did as I was told and waited for the lecture of my life. "What did I tell you about boys?" He asked.
Me: "No boys in my room, no boys over the house unless you invited them, no boyfriend until I'm 18, and so on and so forth." I said.
Dad: "Then, what the fuck was he doing in your room?" He asked.
Me: "He needs a place to stay, Sandra kicked him out." I blurted to save my ass. He told me not to say anything.
Dad: "Well, that's his problem. Not yours. He should've come to me, this my house. You don't sneak motha fuckas in my house. I should beat your ass but you already know the deal."
Me: "But, Dad he's scared of you, Everyone is scared of you." I mumbled.
Dad: "That's good. I won't have to kill him, then." He smirked. Talking to my dad is like talking to a brick wall when it comes to Terrence. My dad hasn't liked him since we were kids and he bullied me.
Me: "Dad," I started.
Dad: "What?" He asked.
Me: "Terrence is my only friend.." I dropped my head. He doesn't know about What's been happening at school. He just knows about that conflict Jordyn and I had a while ago. He still thinks we're friends.
Dad: "I doubt it, you're a dancer, you're more active than anything, you can sing, you're definitely beautiful, you can fight, you're smart, you're loyal, you better be a virgin, you never kissed a guy, never had a boyfriend, everyone-"
Me: "Hates me." I sighed and slid out the stool I was sitting in. "I have no friends and Terrence is the only one that I have. I'm sorry for letting him in through my window but I was just being nice because I knew you would say no. We weren't doing anything but talking."
Dad: "Calm ya ass and sit down, I'm just talking to you." He demanded. "I know you weren't doing anything because you're smart and I would know If you did. But, listen. I want you to call him over here, so we can talk. If I let him stay here, he isn't allowed upstairs for any reason at all. I don't want you in his room either. You two aren't allowed to sit too close and I don't want you here with him alone, you hear me?"
Me: "Yes, Sir." I nodded trying not to smile in front of him.
Dad: "I'm serious, don't make me regret it. I'll hang his ass from the tree house outside. No touching, kissing, fucking, sucking, licking. None of that shit. Fuck around and put cameras in this bitch just in case."
Me: "Dad, we're just friends, remember?" I giggled. "Besides, I don't like him like that."
Dad: "You say that now," he mumbled like I didn't hear him. I'm too happy to care. I took out my phone and texted Terrence, whom I haven't talked to since this morning, I hope he's okay.
Me: Hey, I'm sorry about earlier. I was wondering If you would like to come over for dinner. I have a surprise for you. ☺
Terrence: Now?
Me: Yeah, or whenever you're ready.
Terrence: Does your dad know?
Me: Yes, he knows. He's the one with the surprise.
Terrence: Hmm. I don't know Maria.
Me: Tee, just bring your ass. He's not going to hurt you. You'll regret it If you don't come.
Terrence: Alright, I guess I'll come.
Terrence's POV:
Mom: "Get your shit, and go. Your grown ass can go be take care of that baby. I bet not find out you put your hands on my daughter again either!" She yelled. "I'm sick and tired of this shit, you're acting just like your father and all I wanted was for you to respect me unlike him. I gave you everything you wanted and this is how you repay me?" She cried. I'm not even caring right now because she won't believe me If I told her the true story.
Jordyn's secrets will come out soon and momma will come back to apologize but I won't be here to hear the apology. I've been taking the blame for Jordyn all her life and I was doing it to be the big brother that I am. I care for her but now she's just taking shit too far. I'm 16 years old and two years away from being an adult. I think I can handle this, I've been working since I was 14 anyway. This ain't no problem.
Trey: "Baby, I don't think you should kick him out. Don't you think that's a little too much?" He butted holding me back.
Trey knows the truth because he was here but he wants Jordyn to learn this lesson on herself. I like Trey because he's been a father to me although I have one, whom of which is in prison. Jordyn has her father in her life and he spoils her because he's happy with another family and doesn't want her to feel left out. She doesn't appreciate Trey at all and is always being disrespectful to him. She dared him to discipline her because she will tell her dad some lie she made up. That little girl is evil for no reason and I don't know where the Hell she got it from.
Mom: "No, Trey I don't. He needs to learn how to keep his dick in his pants and not to hit on women. Especially his sister!" She glared at me.
Me: "Look, ma. I don't care that you're choosing her word over mine because I understand. But don't you ever compare me to that dog of a father of mine. I am NOT like him and never will be." I said sternly.
Mom: "Get the fuck out of my house you bastard!" She pointed to the door. I sucked my teeth and grabbed my bags before walking out of the door. Brushing pass Jordyn, I glared at her knowing she was feeling guilty. I saw a tear drop from her face and she mouthed out that she was sorry. I scoffed and continued to walk. Sorry? Sorry couldn't even get her out of the lie in the first place, she in too deep now.
As I walked in broad daylight after school has been out for about two hours now, I got a text from Maria telling me to come over and she got a surprise for me. I'm walking around with hella, heavy bags and I don't want to draw attention but it's already too late for all that. I continued to walk in this hot sun and eventually made it to the gated community that Maria stayed in. I talked to the guard Stacy who knows Maria is my friend and she let me through. I walked into the trail that led to their front door and hesitated to knock but the door flew open anyway.
D: "I see she wasn't lying," He sighed and moved aside. "Come on in."
Me: "I'm sorry for all the back, I just decided clear out my gym locker and Maria asked me to come here." I lied.
D: "That's the best lie you can come up with?" He shook his head and chuckled. "Have a seat."
Me: "Yes, sir." I did as I was told.
D: "I'm not going get all in your business but is it true that Sandra kicked you out? " he asked.
Me: "Yes, Sir. I avoided eye contact." I admitted.
D: "Whatever it was, did you do it?" He asked.
Me: "No, Sir." I shook my head.
D: "I believe you, Trey told me." He chuckled.
Me: "I'm sorry for sneaking in last night, it won't happen again." I said frightened.
D: "I know, I'll make sure of that." He smirked. "Now, I'll let you live here. Do you have a job?"
Me: "Thank you, Sir," I smiled. "I do have a job."
D: "Then, you're going to quit because I have a better job for you and it'll get you your own crib faster. Here's the key to your room, and the other key is to your car. Your bathroom is connected to your room and speaking of that, your room is right down the hall the door is wide open. Go put your stuff up and then come out here and eat. I don't want you upstairs at all, for any reason. You hear me?" He narrowed his eyes at me.
Me: "Y-y-yes Sir." I took the keys and rushed to my room. This is unbelievable. Who knew that getting kicked out would cause my life to become a lot better?
I walked down the hall and the only room with the door wide open. I think he made a mistake because this is not a damn room. This is a hotel. It's the size of their living room and their living room is big as Hell. I walked in and noticed that there was king sized bed, computer, flat screen tv, desk, play station, Xbox, walk-in closet, and a long ass bathroom. There was even a mini fridge in the corner. Yeah, I'm gonna like it here. I set my bags down and jumped on the bed. this bed is so fluffy and soft. I nearly fell asleep in five minutes until there was a knock at the doorway. I looked up to see D staring at me with a smirk on his face.
D: "I see you like it. Come on and eat." He said leaving back down the hall.
Me: "Yes, Sir." I got you swiftly and followed him down the hall.
D: "You sit right here." He pointed at a chair across from Maria. I sat down and smiled while he set our plates down in front of us.
Me: "Thank you, " I thanked him and he welcomed me before giving the twins their plates. "Hey, Maria." I smiled and she blushed a little but quickly looked down when her dad came back to the table.
D: "Terrence, I have another rule.," I leaned in to show I was listening. "Don't flirt with my daughter." He said seriously.
Me: "Yes, Sir." I looked back at my food. I was just saying Hi, it's not like we're dating but okay.
D: "Whatever you're thinking, stop." He glared at me.
Maria: "Dad!" She semi yelled. Her face reddened in embarrassment and although it's far from it.
It feels like I'm on a date with the most beautiful girl in the world and her father. I watched as Maria nervously ate, trying not to look at me and it fascinates me that she's actually nervous around me for the first time. I'm used to seeing the other outgoing Maria and now I see this shy and adorable little girl. It's making me smile on the inside and I can watch her all day. I've never made her like this before and it's weird but wonderful at the same time. What am I thinking? I must be crazy to think that someone as perfect as she would actually like me. She's just my best friend, you can't date your best friend.
D: "Terrence." He snapped me out of my thoughts.
Me: "Yes sir?" I asked.
D: "Chill out," he glared at me. I knew exactly what he was talking about and Maria giggled before getting up and washing out of her plate. I can't believe I just watched her eat her food. That's the weirdest shit ever! After I finished my dinner, I washed out my plate. I walked down the hall to my room and began unpacking my clothes and belongings.
Maria: "Knock knock," I heard her say as she stood in the doorway with a basket.
Me: "wassup?" I nodded.
Maria: "I'm doing Laundry. Anything you need to be washed?" She asked.
Me: "Nope, but thank you anyway." I smiled.
Maria: "Okay, If you change your mind, just set your clothes in a hamper and put it in the Laundry room, please."
Me: "Alright, Thank you." I nodded and went back to unpacking my things.
Maria: "No, problem," She smiled and began to walk away.
Me: "Wait," I stopped her. I got up from the bed and walked towards the doorway. She looked a little uneasy but I really want to thank her for being there for me. I pulled the basket out of her hands and set it on the ground. Wrapping my arms around her waist tightly and snuggling my face in the crook of her neck, Inhaled my favorite perfume that she wears. I felt her body relax in my arms and it cause mines to do the same. A smile spread across my face the longer I held her. "Thank you, for everything," I said still holding her. A tear managed to escape my eye and Pierce her skin. She pulled back while rubbing my arms and holding my face between her soft fingers.
Maria: "No, thank you" She smiled and wiped away my tears. I love the feeling I'm getting from her touch. To feel her wipe away my tears is like being touched by an angel. I closed my eyes for a moment and then opened them to see that I wasn't dreaming. I think my best friend may be the only girl that makes me feel this way. I gazed into her beautiful light brownish hazel eyes and fell into a daze that her luring eyes were pulling me into. As my 5'11 stature towers over her 5'4 size, I lean down slowly as she raises on her tippy toes. My grip around her waist became tighter and her arms wrapped around my neck. With our lips just inches apart, I could taste her lips already.
D: "I wouldn't do that If I were you." He said startling us. We instantly separated and turned our heads in his direction. "Your stay ain't gone last too long If you starting off like this already," He smirked. "Just friends, my ass." He shook his head and leaned against the wall with his arms crossed.
Me: "Good night," I whispered with an embarrassed face. She grabbed the basket off of the floor.
Maria: "Good night." She whispered back. She continued to walk to the laundry room.
D: "Remember to lock your door, Kid. I wouldn't want to get suspicious and walk in on you doing something you're not supposed to." He glared at me. "Plus, you're 16. you deserve your privacy at this age. Just keep your dick in your pants, before I have to hurt you." He said sternly.
Me: "Yes, sir." I gulped and nodded. He then left after Maria walked pass again and glanced at us before running upstairs following behind her. I soon disappeared into my room and locked the door like I was told. I sighed before walking back to my bed continuing to unpack my things. I couldn't help but smile what was about to happen between Maria and I. I can tell we had a connection going on between us. Even though it was all wrong, it felt so right. I feel like singing right now. I took a quick glance at my guitar case and without hesitation picked it up and pulled it out.
I began playing with the strings a little at first and out came a whole song. Fiddling with the strings while singing my heart out only made me feel better. I closed my eyes as I let the music take over me. The wings in my heart began to fly and I could almost swear that I was floating in the air. The butterflies in my stomach started to flutter along to the sound of my voice. This is what real happiness is to me. I don't know where I am in life right now, and I don't really care because tonight felt like the beginning of something real. I've tried the unthinkable and liked what it had to offer.
