#5 - Man Overboard!

Leo watched out into the sea, his mind wandering. He had taken a night shift, insisting his friends got sleep. They were exhausted from a full day of fighting, and would have collasped. Leo was tired too, but not as tired as they were.

Hazel had chosen to stay up with Leo, along with Jason hanging out in the donut room. Leo knew they were just being nice, so he tried to convince them to rest, but they refused. Leo was glad he had such good friends.

Jason came running into the engine room, wiping pink frosting off his face. He was breathing heavily like he'd just seen a ghost.

Leo turned around. "Jason, whats wrong-"

"Man overboard," Jason gasped. "Just saw him now. At least.. I think its a him."

Hazel's eyes widened. "Man Overboard? Geez, who is it?"

Jason shook his head. "I don't know. Its too dark to see."

Leo immediatly stopped the ship. "Jason, see if you can get him out. See if its a demigod, or someone from our ship. Hazel, stand ready and help Jason with the body." They nodded and hurried off.

Leo felt the ship slowly skid to a stop. Leo looked down at the water through the window and saw Hazel and Jason lugging a body onto the ship. Jason looked up and nodded - a signal to come down.

Leo skipped stairs on the way down and almost tripped over the body. It was face up on its back. Leo had to look closely to see it was a girl. A teenage girl, actually.

Hazel was peeling seaweed and grubs off the girl's face. leo realised she was pratically wrapped in the stuff - like she's taken a bath in seaweed. Leo glanced over the edge. He probably wasn't that far to being wrong.

He knelt down next to the girl's head as Jason pushed on her chest.

"No way..." Leo murmered.

"What?" Hazel said.

Leo shook his head and studied the girl's face. He wiped a chunk of seaweed off the girl's face and gasped.

"Leo, what's wrong?"

Leo shook his head. "Nothing! Nothing. Nothing's wrong."

Except, some thing was a little wrong. This girl was the same girl he'd met on Ogygia. Leo was almost happy until he realised the condition she was in.

Jason looked at him funny, but decided to drop it. "She's not breathing!"

Leo looked at Jason frantiacally. "What do we do?"

"What do you think, dummy!" Hazel yelped. "She needs mouth-to-mouth! Jason, Leo, get her breathing, alright? I'll get help." Hazel jumped up and headed for the sleeping headquarters.

Jason looked a little surprised when Leo didn't hesitate. Leo gave the girl, Calypso, air as Jason forced air out. After three breaths, the girl coughed in shock. Leo pushed her head to the side as she coughed up water.

Jason and Leo sighed in relief. Jason grabbed a towel and wrapped it around her shivering body.

Leo stared at her in awe. Calypso was here, in front of him, and he'd just helped save her from drowning. Leo felt proud of himself but worried for her. Calypso was curled up in the blanket, shivering and spitting out seawater. She seemed to refuse to open her eyes.

Leo wanted to put his arm around her, but decided it wasn't the best idea. It might scare her, and it would bring a lot of confusion to his friends.

Jason tried to help her sit up, but she stayed firm, curled up on the floor next to Leo. He sat awkwardly beside her. She clutched his hand.

Leo wasn't expecting it, but he didn't move. For a moment he thought she might know he was here, but she was probably just looking for comfort and warmth. Jason took no note of it, thankfully.

Hazel came running in with Frank and Piper. Leo knew what they were thinking: They wished Annabeth was here, perhaps Percy. They would be perfect for this job. But they were still in Tatarus, fighting for their lives and to close the doors of death.

Hazel looked at Calypso and sighed in relief. "Good. She's okay."

Leo thought she didn't look okay, with her shivering against him like she'd spent a month in the North Pole, but he knew she meant she was alive.

Frank looked at her. "Did you do mouth-to-mouth?"

Leo nodded. Frank looked at him, a hint of surprise in his eyes, but straigtened. "Good. Uh, is she okay? Does she have hypothermia or anything?"

Leo bit his lip. He hadn't thought about that. Jason spoke up, thankfully.

"I don't think so. But she's definatly awake, maybe we can help her."

Piper nodded, agreeing. Hazel looked at the girl. "Hello?"

Calypso ignored her. Hazel tried again. "Hello? My name is Hazel. We're here to help you." She put her hand on Calypso's shoulder. She shivered at her touch.

"Can you tell us your name?" Hazel asked softly. Calypso shook her head, eyes still shut tight.

"Charmspeak?" Piper suggested. Everyone nodded, except for Leo.

Piper knelt down in Hazel's spot and spoke in a soothing voice. "My name is Piper. We want to help you." Calypso shook her head. "Please," Piper said. "Tell us your name," Leo had to remind himself to keep his mouth shut-Piper's charmspeak was good.

Though Calypso shook her head and murmered something.

"What?" Piper asked.

"Charmspeak won't work." Calypso squeaked. Piper looked around her friends, sharing a secret message: This is no mortal. But Leo already knew.

"We need to know your name." Hazel insisted. Calypso breathed roughly. "How should I trust you?"

"We're demigods. Are you a demigod, too?" Piper asked.

Calypso hesitated. "No," She said plainly.

Leo's friends looked worried. "Are you a monster?" Frank asked.

Still Calypso shook her head. "No."

"Please," Jason said. "Just tell us your name,"

Calypso took a deep breath.

"I know her name," Leo announced. His friends looked confused. "What?" They said. Calypso tensed, but didn't move or open her eyes.

"I know her name." He reapeated. "But I don't know if she wants me saying it."

"Leo..." Piper statrted, but knew charmspeak would be pointless.

Leo sighed. "Her name is Calypso. Calypso of Ogygia." Leo held his breath, ready for his friends to laugh or yell at him for joking. Jason tilted his head. Frank looked like a confused puppy. Hazel looked at the girl, confused.

"Isn't Calypso a, erm, Greek Myth thingie? We didn't really learn about her." Frank said. Leo sighed.

"Calypso is the daughter of a Titan. She supported the Titans in the War against the gods. Thus, the gods gave her a punishment."

"What?" Frank asked, curious.

"They trapped her on an island, where she can never leave, and every once in a while, the fates would drop a hero on her island. She was destined to fall in love with these heros, but they always had to leave her too soon. And once they leave, they can't come back, leaving Calypso with what you might call, 'a broken heart'."

"That's right," Piper said thoughtfully. "Percy landed on her island. But he had to leave, just like the other heroes."

"Yup," Leo said. He looked down at Calypso, her head on his knee. "Just like me."

"What?"

"I landed on Calypso's island. I would have told you guys sooner, but I wasn't sure..." Leo felt guilty, but his friends just looked at him with interest. "Well, she should have never gotten off her island, but unless this is some crazy monster in disguize, its her."

Jason stared at Leo, then cracked a smile. "No wonder you've been acting so strange. You met a girl."

"I knew it!" Hazel giggled.

"Sheesh," Leo said. "No need to get excited."

"Idiot." Calypso muttered. leo looked down and saw she had opened her eyes.

Leo hoped he wasn't blushed. "Uh..."

"Get me up." She ordered. Leo stood up at helped her to her feet.

She looked close to faint. Leo caught her as she turned white.

"You okay there, Sunshine?"

"Dont call me Sunshine, Valdez." She gasped. Leo realised she was scared. "Whats going on."

"We found you in the water. You wern't breathing."

Leo thought she might be embarrassed, but she just nodded.

"Leo, can I tell you something?" She pulled away from him, somehow managing to balance on her feet.

"Uh, yeah?" Leo said nervously.

Calypso punched him in the face. Startled, Leo felt backward, holding his bleeding nose.

Calypso had nearly lost her balance, but she was still standing. "What are you doing! Why am I here!"

"Don't ask me, that's the Fate's job."

"Agh!" She punched him again.

"Leo!" Piper stepped foreward, but Calypso waved her hand and she fell as if someone had pushed her.

Leo managed to grin. "I didn't know you could do that."

Calypso put her hands on her hips. "I do have a little magic, remember?"

"Like seeing the past?"

"Yes. And-" She gaped at him. "You're still wearing it?"

Leo looked down at his army jacket and jeans - the same ones Calypso had made for him. "Of course."

Calypso looked a little wistful. "Why? Did you keep the other gifts, too?" She looked at him like she was expecting a 'no', but Leo obviously surprised her.

"I still have the crystal," He promised.

She raised her eyebrows from surprise. "And the fireproof pouch?"

Frank alomost stumbled. "What?"

Leo pushed himself to his feet. "I gave it it's job."

Calypso was eyeing Frank curiously. "You said it may save a life."

"Correct. See him? That's Frank, son of Mars, or to you, Ares. His life depends on a stick."

Calypso nodded, still looking at Frank.

"If the stick catches fire, he dies. So the pouch protects the stick."

Frank held up his firewood, still wrapped in the pouch.

"You don't say," Calypso murmered to herself. "You really did need it to save a life."

Leo nodded and rubbed his broken nose. "You throw some good punches."

Calypso looked at him. "Oh! Oh, I'm sorry, I was just-"

"Being Calypso." Leo finished, smiling widly. Calypso sighed.

"Do I get an apologie?" Leo asked.

"I'm sorry for breaking your nose, Leo."

"You can do better than that." Leo tapped his cheek.

Calypso looked disgusted. "No! Forget it, Valdez! Never in a million years."

"I don't believe that for a second." Leo laughed. Then he walked up to his confused friends.

"Guys, we have some explaining to do." Leo smirked.

He hasn't done anything on it, and as far as I know, he may never, so don't get too excited. Plus, he made me get a Scratch account. Its exactly the same as my Wattpad account: code_sharpie.
