Why Me!?

Laura walks through the golden hallway. Her footsteps echoed through the hallway as nerves rushed through her. It was very rare that she would be called upon by the higher guard in command. She knew that she hadn't done anything wrong recently but she was still nervous of what could come. When it came to working as a guard there where never many surprises. She had always been prepared for the worst of battles.  She had to be since her job wasn't only looking after the prisoners but it was also to do with getting prisoners in the prison. Her and Cassie would do this on a regular basis. She had been in near death situations in some cases but she knew there where some enemies that she had heard of that even she couldn't face even with Cassie by her side.

With the marble floor glistening under her feet she looked up as the guards took grip of the golden handles on the door. The guards in front opened the door as they followed Laura into the room that had a huge table in the middle. Statues of golden armour watched over each corner of the room. On the wall featured different paintings of soldiers that had died some who where part of the Valkyrie. There was a lady with a serious expression sitting at the front of the table. Her eyes where stern as Laura gulped. This is when it hit her that this was going to be a very serious one. There where a pile of papers in front of her she started shifting through them. She whispered to the guards next to her as this would be periodically followed by a slow nod.

The head guard looked up as she spotted Laura. Her eyes darted to Laura's as she signalled her to walk over to her. Laura slowly walked over to her and sat to the right side of her. Laura looked towards her. "We have a very important mission for you Laura. " She said as Laura nodded. "And, what would that mission be?" Laura asked with curiosity showing in her tone. "There is a monster of a grave threat to Azgard and we have tried to defeating it many times to...No luck. We have been researching about Loki. He has worked with this monster before and we thought we could use that to our advantage. We would like to keep an eye on Loki so he has no chance to betray us. You have experience with prisoners like Loki and keeping them on your side. We will have Loki go undercover while you make sure he does not betray us." The solider said.

Laura's eyes widened in shock as her eyebrows furrowed to her suggestion. " You have to be crazy right!?" Laura said shocked. "He's the god of mischief and you think letting him out is going to help any of us!" Laura said in disbelief.  She couldn't understand what was running through the guards head suggesting this. From what she knew of Loki he was conniving and manipulative to the highest degree. "The only thing letting him out of that prison will do is bring us into more trouble and what is me being there going to stop him." Laura argued as she then sighed. She tried to calm herself down since she wasn't in the mood to get into trouble with her boss. " Look, I don't think me being here will do anything. I'm not qualified enough for what your asking me to do." she disagreed. She cleared her throat as she got up. "I must go." She added as she then glanced up to the guard and continued " and do what I was meant to be doing." Laura walked towards the door as it closed on her before the guard could retort.

Laura sat outside in the courtyard as she watched the sun reflect off the floor as it made her feel comfortable and warm. She preferred being in the snow but she wouldn't be lying by saying that she found sitting under the sun a relaxing way to clam her mind of rampaging thoughts. She questioned why she would be the one targeted to do the task. She knew that she was good at what she was doing currently but stepping up to face an enemy that defeated even her superiors felt out of her depth. She was afraid to swim into the deeper end of the pool. She questioned why they would throw her so out of her depth. It all made no sense to her.

As she sat there looking lost in thought she glanced over to Thor. She immediately got up and bowed to him. "A-afternoon your majesty." She stuttered trying to sweep away her zoned out state that she was previously in.  She  looked confused as she heard Thor chuckle. "There is no need for the formalities." He mused as he looked amused at Laura's confusion. Laura was a bit star struck over seeing Thor in front of her but she shook this off in turn to be more professional. "What brings you outside? Many of the guards aren't always out unless they have to so its weird to see one out here like this." he asked.  Laura looks up at him and adds " I'm surprised a god like you is outside."

Thor laughs in reply as he sits next to Laura but not to close. "Working at the prison I guess you have seen my brother?" he asks his tone noticeably lower and less upbeat compared to before. Laura nods.  Thor looks at her " Don't let him get to you. He may seem like a horrible person however he does have a nice side ...deep...deep down. " he comforted.  Laura gulps as she looks down. " But I can't take on a task the head guard has given me! " Laura blurted as her eyes widened. "I-I'm sorry I shouldn't burden someo-" she panicked as Thor then interrupted " No, continue."  He reassured.  Laura was used to formalities especially in the job she was in. This all felt so unusual to her.  She finally felt like she was

heading to the deep end.
