Chapter 7 - Away
When I arrived back inside the mansion, rain beginning to drop on the earth, I didn't go back into the dining room, I went straight upstairs and into my room, locking the door behind me by means of a bolt. I was running again, I didn't feel like dealing with the repercussions of running out on my parents. I knew it wouldn't take long from them to know that I was hiding up in my room, so I went to the contacts on my phone, scrolling through them. It was basically just full of family members, including my mothers and the limo driver, no one else... Until I passed by one contact I didn't recognize
"When did I...?" I asked myself in a whisper, staring down at the name of Vani. I don't remember putting her number into my phone... Wait. I narrowed my eyes, remembering during lunch hour a few days prior till today, she asked me if she could use my phone to dial a number since hers died on her and she forgot to bring a portable charger. I just shrugged and handed it over to her, not thinking straight as I was focused on remembering math formulas.
She put her number into my phone, but why? What for? I sighed, resting my cheek against the back of my hand. I guess I can try calling her, do normal people hang out on the weekends? This might be my chance to get away for the day, and away from my parents. I dialed her number before putting the phone up to my ear, hearing the dial ringtone intiatate. After a couple of seconds, I heard her pick up
"Hello, Hemalyn! What's up?" She asked me, a little too excited that I called her
"I-I was..." I took a breath, I can't believe I'm doing this, "... Wondering if I could come over for the day? Me and my parents had a disagreement and I would rather not deal with it right now."
"Yeah sure! I can come and pick you up if you want! Since it's raining and all."
"Great. I will see you then." I went to hang up before she suddenly began talking again
"Oh yeah, are you allergic to anything?" 'Stupid People.' I almost said out loud but I bit my tongue to stop me from doing so
"Peanuts and Amoxicillin." I told her
"Okay, I just wanted to make sure! Alrighty~ See you then!" She hanged up. I sighed in relief, bringing my phone down into my lap as I stared at the blank screen, 'She can just talk and talk now, can she?' I thought to myself before deciding to get ready, knowing her she would want to pick me up right away. I changed into regular jeans and a bland grey shirt, leaving my red hair down as I had just broke my last hairband... Great. I left my room, making sure to have my phone in my pocket if Vani goes on another one of her rambles, I can just pull out my phone to ignore her.
I walked down the steps and toward the front doors, slipping into sneakers and a light jacket that I left on the coat rack a few weeks ago before opening the door
"Lady Hemalyn, may I ask where you are going? The forecast is stating on the radio of a tsunami warning. I wouldn't advice you to go out right now." I glanced over my shoulder at the butler who held some towels in his arms, probably on his way to get them washed
"All Japan gets is basically tsunamis, I will be fine. I know how to swim. See you later." I left to the outside world, swiftly closing the door behind me. I walked down to the end of the main driveway, seeing a limo fast approaching, even if the roads were wet from the first shower of the day. I watched it slow down until I could see Vani roll down her window with a bright smile
"Hello friend! Are you sure your parents are fine with you coming over? I don't want you to be apart from your family if a tsunami does hit us."
"Yeah, it's fine by them as long as I'm home before dark and can get my homework done from Friday." I told her, telling a easy and resourceful white like to get her to not feel so uneasy having me over with the tsunami warning blaring through the radio that I could hear from up front where the driver was
"Okay! Hop on in! Speaking of hopping, I can't wait until you meet my little rab rab, Harriet!" I opened the door and she scooted over one seat to make room for me. I got in, closing the door just as the limo drove off.
---3rd Person's POV---
The two worried mother's watched the limo drive off with their beloved daughter from the second floor window
"I hope our little Hema will be alright, I don't want her to be out there with such chances of the tsunami hitting us even just a tad!" Mythica Alderain stated, clutching onto the chair in front of her tightly. Ciara Alderain nodded in agreement stiffly before shaking her head
"I wish we could just talk to her normally, like back in the good days." Ciara admitted, her mind wandering off back to when their daughter was so joyful and full of life
"I don't understand... I thought she would at least be somewhat happy of getting a sibling to help look after. But... She just... Ran away." Ciara pulled Mythica into a hug, kissing the side of her head
"She will come around, you know how she can be, especially in recent years." Mythica solemnly nodded, resting her hand over her stomach where their child was growing
"If only... We can have our little happy bun again.".
---Hemalyn---
"This is Harriet! One of my newest children!" Vani stated while snuggling a rabbit to her chest, rubbing her cheek affectionally on top of it's head. I stared at the animal, wondering how on Earth it wasn't suffocating from how much she was smothering it with her affection
"That's cool... I guess.." I muttered the last part, not really getting what was the big deal when it came to pets, as someone who has never had one when growing up
"Harriet's personality it pretty chill, he doesn't mind anything at all, he likes all sorts of good veggies except for cauliflower, he sniffs it before sassing me by hopping away to jump in his water dish." Vani informed me while setting Harriet down on the floor to explore the room. I followed her as she walked over to an aquarium that held several different fish that I wasn't even going to bother identifying
"Fish... Why?"
"They are relaxing took at, don't you think? Just swimming their lives away with peace in their little abode of a water home. I like to stare at them to relieve stress, they just relax me. Which reminds me..." Before I could say another word, Vani opened up an enclosure that was full of leaves and tiny branches before pulling out a small animal
"This is Luna, my Leppard Gecko!" She introduced me to the small lizard. I couldn't deny that Luna had a beautiful daughter on her, a clash of blues and greens but other than that, it was just a reptile.
To be nice, I nodded and held my hand out for Luna to travel onto my hand, seeing her carefully tread onto unfamiliar territory
"She seems to like you! Not a surprise though, she pretty much likes anyone, as long as they don't try to eat her." Vani said to me as Luna skittered up my forearm before going back down again, licking her eyeballs to keep them moisturized
"They do that because they can't blink, right?"
"Not necessarily. Some geckos can blink but not a lot of them can. It is 50/50 and sometimes, I think Luna does that to show off her fantastic tongue. Right Luna?" Vani asked the small reptile with her tongue stuck out. Luna stared at her for a few seconds before licking her eyeballs again in response. I nodded slowly as Vani gently grabbed Luna from off of my hand to put her back into her little abode. She closed the cage before grabbing my arm to lead me to the other side of the room where birds were softly chirping at us
"These are my other children, the triplets, all coming from the same batch of eggs. Buggy, Bolin, and Beatrice." I managed to recognized these birds, they were Cockatiels, my great aunt and uncle in Korea have a few of these of their own
"Weird names." I couldn't help but comment
"My dad named them for me, thinking they were Budgerigar Parakeets instead of Cockatiels." She answered me simply, glancing out the opened window to the the downpour of rain hitting against the windowpanes
"Damn... It's raining pretty hard, the warnings were not joking around about there being a possible tsunami." I nodded, biting back my tongue from making a smart comment. She shook her head, quickly flashing me a grin
"I'm going to get a drink, want anything?"
"Just water."
"Coming right up! I'm gonna give you the fanciest water we have!" She scurried out of the room, softly closing the door behind her as to not disturb the animals in the room. I turned back to face the Cockatiels, staring at them intently with my soft brown eyes
"You are in cages like me, held against your will, I could easily leave you out of your prison right now... Only if there was a tsunami coming our way." I whispered to myself before backing away and walk towards the window, watching the big rain drops slam against the window.
