35- Elders
Shelly made her way to sit down at the staff table, clutching the tiny notepad in between gloved hands. As she swallowed her uncertainties, sitting down, one of the retired members gave her a potent look, creased eyes full of interest.
Bob, her father, stood at one end of the long table, stroking a small beard. He was the secretary for the retired Council members, but because of the fact that this was his daughter, he had been granted access to stay in this same room as her.
Shelly fumbled for her words inside her head, and breathed.
"I came here with the updates of the past few months," she began. The fox straightened her back and began her updates. She left out the point of the newcomer until the end.
"There is... A newcomer who I'm worried about."
They all raised their eyebrows, even more interested now than before.
"It prefers to be called 'Bendy'. It does not have a voice. It had a brother, but we did not interact with him."
"And where did this newcomer come from?" One questioned. Shelly looked at that member.
"I was getting to that part. It had come from a place called Joey Drew Studios, as far as we could tell from the gremlin at the gate who had allowed them through in the first place. It was also noted that the newcomer needed small medical attention."
There were small murmurs among them as the eldest, the brother of the late Doctor Shane, spoke up for the first time.
"And what sort of injuries did this newcomer pertain?"
"Marks along his shoulders and lower back, along his spine. It was not anything serious, but it was a mystery of how they had gotten there in the first place."
"What were your thoughts on it?"
Shelly paused, recollecting her memories. "I had thought this one's injuries could have been self-inflicted, but of course it could have been something else."
"Such as abuse?"
Shelly nodded. "Maybe."
Bob handed over a paper to the eldest. "This was given by Gremlin Dave. This is what the newcomer looks like."
The eldest's eyes popped open. "It's a demon."
Shelly nodded. "Y-yes sir, it is a demon."
The eldest sighed and pushed the paper away.
"Sir? Are you alright?" Bob asked.
The eldest's mouth was a firm line as he nodded. "It just reminded me of that loose subject, is all."
Not more needed to be said. Shane.
For a short moment, only uncomfortable silence remained. Finally, it was the eldest who chose to clear his throat. "The past is in the past. Now," he looked directly at Shelly. "How does this... Demon behave?"
"It is... Difficult. Though it does seem to hold quite the intelligence. There were a few times we had to... Punish it. It has been taken back to its normal cell-"
The eldest, Bruce, held up a hand to stop her.
"What did Bendy do?"
"It tried to harm me, sir. It had to be punished with the collars."
More murmurs burst through.
"-how did it harm you?"
"-what intensity did you use?"
"-why the hell would you use the collars?
"-those are dangerous!"
"Enough!" Bruce slammed the table. At this, all conversation abruptly came to an end. "Now... Had it been violent from the start? Tell me everything."
And so Shelly did.
"It had bonded with its two close cell mates, by the looks of it. And-" her phone buzzed as she ignored it and silenced it without looking. "-and it's just an interesting one."
"...So are you saying that it is dangerous?"
Her mind whirled past the thought of Bendy's powers being used for good.
"Yes."
"It cannot be contained?"
"...Well, that could differ. I mean, we might need to run experiments with our professionals to range its powers..."
Bruce nodded. "Alright then. How can we sort this issue out? Are you saying we should send it back to where it was found?"
"I was saying we could do last minute tests but, yes. That was an idea."
"I'll support it."
Shelly looked surprised. "Thank you, sir. I'll have some tests scheduled by the hour."
Bruce nodded. "Meeting adjourned."
Shelly stood up and shook hands with them all, and a few even wished her several 'good lucks'. After giving her father a hug, the female fox then moved out of the building, back into her car with a sense of accomplishment. But with that, a sort of... Guilt? Whatever the cause, she shook it off and drove back to the facility without another dwelling.
As she pushed through the guarded doors, Shelly passed several guards, nodding before heading to the lab.
Inside were several scientists, who turned at the sound of her voice.
"Alright boys," she started. "I've got a job for you."
