34- The Why's

Boris stayed inside Doctor Frank's office, still dwelling heavily on the phone call with Bendy. Why hadn't the demon told him he was alright? Was he even alright? How had it been? Was he being treated right? Was he alone?

Did... Did he miss him?

The wolf sighed, the bandages wrapped around his face scratchy and uncomfortable, but he bit through any complaints while the doctor exchanged them for new. After most of all the things which had to occur, in his entire life time (which wasn't even a week counting) he had never felt so lonely and detached. He was just like Bendy. Soon he would be another one to be called a monster.

Why did he have this? Why did his brother have to go through what he did? Why couldn't he have said a proper goodbye? Why did he feel so empty, even though he was shone love from his adoptive father, Oswald? Was it even enough? The answer was no. Boris missed his brother. He had a respect for him the moment he had laid eyes upon him. It was traumatizing, rarely knowing him and then forcing the demon away from the innocent, well-minded wolf.

Boris sat on the pale cream colored couch with his legs drawn up to his chest. After so much pondering, the wolf felt spent. His mind just wanted to blank, so that he could forget about his troubles and this problem of his.

Oswald stood next to the doctor, who had cancelled his many appointments. The major ones though, he had to go through with. But that was fine with the wolf and rabbit. Doctors are busy people, and they understood that.

After Frank had rushed to one of his few appointments, he and the rabbit stood, thinking of ideas in which they might possibly use in order to correct the wolf's defect.

"The blue serum is in no way safe... At least, with Bendy it wasn't. But I don't want to try," Frank sighed. Oswald nodded.

"I see what you mean. If we did use it, the effects could be the same or worse, right?"

"Correct."

The wolf was barely listening, though he did catch a few key words. He said nothing, and did not interrupt.

After a few minutes of fuzzy contemplation with the two adults, they finally turned back to the wolf and spoke.

"Boris, we're going to try something, alright?"

The wolf looked at Frank, a peculiar look on his face. "What is it?"

"Well, Oswald can explain while I go get the things I need..." Frank then walked past the couch and then moved out the door.

The rabbit sat down beside him. "We're going to try something that might help you with... Stress."

The wolf tilted its head like a puppy. "What's stress?"

"It's like... A tension inside you. When you feel you aren't... Doing all the things you can, or you feel pressured... It's mental, I suppose."

"...Like when you yelled at Frank?"

The rabbit shook his head. "I was pretty angry, if I'm going to be honest."

"Oh." The wolf then asked, "What is Doctor Frank gonna do?"

Just then, said doctor stepped in holding a bottle of rattling pills. He held a paper cup filled with water in the other. "Oswald, if you would mind taking off the bandages?"

The rabbit nodded and gently peeled the adhesive tape from both sides of the wolf's face. He then dropped them into a can, sitting back down beside Boris.

Frank handed the wolf the water cup, and sat down in a chair in front of them.

"This," he rattled the bottle once more. "will help with your anxiety, which might stop your melting problem." Frank handed the pill bottle to Oswald, who nodded and unscrewed the special lid. "That way, if you are ever subject to something troubling outside in public, it will be much easier to handle."

The wolf nodded, sort-of understanding. The pills were a rusty red color as Oswald held one in his hands. "I'm going to flick it in your mouth, okay?" The wolf nodded. "Okay. Right after, drink all of that water to help wash it down." Again, Boris nodded, opening his jaws. Oswald flicked the pill down the wolf's throat as the wolf tipped the cup of water to his lips and drank it down.

Boris tilted his head again. "What do I do now?" A tiny trickle of ink ran down his face, but its progress was so slow that it could almost be called an accomplishment.

"Well, it might take a little while for it all to kick in. And when it does, you might feel calmer and at ease. When this does happen, tell me or Oswald."

The wolf nodded, smiling a bit. "Okay!"

Frank got up from the seat and smiled back. "I have to go now, but I'll be back in not much more than an hour."

Boris waved as Oswald nodded, and like that Frank left the office once again.

Oswald relaxed into the couch, sighing.

"...Dad, you alright?"

The rabbit met his worried eyes. "Of course I am. You just gave me a huge scare earlier... It worried me."

The wolf moved to snuggle beside him. "I'm good now, though! Maybe you need these too!"

Oswald laughed a bit and scratched the wolf behind the ears, making the wolf grin.

"Hah, no I'm good."

The wolf closed his eyes, and relaxed into Oswald's own side.

"You can go to sleep, Boris."

The wolf muttered an 'okay' before his breathing grew calm and even.

Oswald resumed his petting, and breathed gently before he looked out the office window's blinds. A tiny ray of light peeked through. The rabbit sighed before closing his eyes also, and tried himself to sleep.

Shelly held her head in her manicured hands, sighing a bit. The meeting was scheduled, and she couldn't be more stressed. Those words the mist-like Deformed one spoke of the newcomer was hinting at something more inside her heart.

Of course, Bendy was going to be decided. Possibly tested more. But this time... Maybe she would try to handle herself more professionally, and give the demon a chance not to act out.

Why did those words haunt her? That the newcomer's powers could be used for good? The more she thought about it, the more she wanted to mentally- or physically- slap herself.

No one even knew the extent of Bendy's powers. And that frightened her enough to shrug off the feeling of guilt as she set on hunching over a notepad, scribbling notes she would use in her confrontation with the rest of the retired Council. Sure, she was the boss of the place itself, but she was not the most popular. She was not a favorite, that was for damn sure. No, she had cruel ways and a troubled memory of the prior boss. Shelly wasn't fit, no matter how hard she willed herself to strive and be.

She would always be the Shelly she was now, unless she actually took the chance to change.

Scribbling one last thing down, she stood up and departed and left the room, shaking her head with pangs in her heart.

On the paper were many notes, but the most important one stood out.

Trust the demon?

Shelly came back in, and grabbed the notepad and her strength before departing for the meeting.

"Oh, this is gonna be hell..." she muttered to herself. As she looked back down at the pad which she had thrown in the passengers seat of her car, the fox felt something wet in her eyes.

Tears.

"...I'm gonna be in hell..."
