they had been walking for nearly an hour now and still didnt reach where they had wanted to go. it was all the youngers plan, which seemed all sweet and romantic that next morning. what he didnt consider was his ability to navigate when his phone wasnt the one speaking to him and doing all the work. now their midday getaway down by the water with champagne and fruit was currently not turning out the way he wished.
taehyung reminded him of this every few steps. "my feet hurt now. carry me." he held his arms up for a piggy back ride, just to get a look from the ravenettes over his shoulder.
"youre yelling at me to read the map but now want me to hold you?" jungkook said, "make it make sense."
taehyung shrugged, "i figured if we were going to rot in the woods we could at least be holding each other." he said.
"and im apparently the dramatic one." jungkook said.
"you called yourself the asian david attenborough this morning."
jungkook stopped walking and held the map down, "how about you check on your dog before he gets eaten by a bear." he suggested, seeing the way taehyungs eyes widened a little and he stopped to look around their immediate area.
yeontan had been keeping up, his little legs going over twigs and stones to stay in pace with the two lost males. "how about i read the map and you babysit." taehyung said, going up to the younger and taking the map now. jungkook huffed, but he didnt argue.
all he did was go over to the puppy and pick him up to give his little dog legs a break. "fine. but i didnt get us lost. we're just on an unplanned adventure." jungkook said.
"yeah okay." taehyung said. he held the map out to see it better, trying to figure out where they had gone and came from based on any land marks or indications given by the map. there was the coast to the east and a river located north, but they havent stumbled across any water yet so theres no way they were near that. "bro its freezing, my dick could cut glass right now." jungkook said.
taehyung sighed and looked over at the ravenette. "be quiet for two seconds."
the younger lasted three.
"which way is the coast?" jungkook ended up asking.
"apparently its east." taehyung said. "but i have no idea where east is right now."
jungkook hummed and looked around, only seeing more trees around them. "dogs always run to the sea." he said.
"thats not true."
"you have to run to the sea." jungkook spoke to yeontan in a soft voice, holding him close to his chest with encouraging pats to his head. taehyung shook his head at that and looked back at the map. there was a road that winded around this area, they would stumble across it eventually. "this way." taehyung said, walking forward and going with his gut feeling when it came to navigating.
jungkook followed behind obediently, still holding yeontan as the dog panted and most likely appreciated his break.
"do you regret using the rest of your phone battery to tweet snide things yet." jungkook asked. he knew he was poking at the boys patience, considering this is not exactly how either had wanted to spend their day.
taehyung had his fair share of remarks too. he glanced over at the ravenette and rose an eyebrow. "do you regret trying to take a photo of a bay frog and dropping your phone in the puddle?" he asked.
the little smug smile on jungkooks face disappeared and he narrowed his eyes at the older one. "and to think I was going to send you that cute picture." he huffed, adjusting the puppy in his arms while they walked. taehyung smiled, leaning closer to kiss jungkooks cheek. he missed his smile already. "im enjoying my time with you, its fine." he said.
jungkook didnt smile. not when he was too busy trying to hide the blush that was now on his cheeks. taehyung saw it though, the soft color looking sweet on the boys face as the light breeze blew back his longer hair to expose more of the pinkish tint.
taehyung would have kept staring, not looking where he was walking and trusting there would suddenly be no cliffs or too big of stones to step over. it was his dog barking that stole his attention. yeontan was picking his head up more and looking ahead at something too far for the males ears to pick up. "stop walking." jungkook said.
when they did it became silent, no more twigs breaking and leaves crunching under their sneakers. thats when they could hear the soft hum. it was far in the distance, something quiet and making the two think about what it was.
the honk confirmed what each boy was suspecting. yeontan barked again and jungkook put him back on the ground. instead of taking off he started to jump up on taehyungs leg, looking up with big eyes and waiting for something. "lets go kid." taehyung said to him, waving forward as they hurried on.
it had to be the road. it sounded like traffic and the occasional car noise. finding the rv would be easy then. all they had to do was follow it and they were home free.
"dont take this the wrong way." taehyung started to say, "but i never want to go camping again."
jungkook honestly wouldnt take it the wrong way. thats partly why he only rented the rv, this was a one time thing. "you werent a fan of snuggling in the woods?" he chuckled, teasing the other.
"you dont have to take me to the woods to snuggle."
the ravenette looked at taehyung so fast he must have hurt his neck. the older even saw it in his peripheral vision, biting the inside of his bottom lip to not grin to big at how cute jungkook looked. "dont mess with me." he said, "i have serious needs."
"do you have plans tonight?" taehyung asked.
jungkook shook his head and answered quick. "theyre canceled now." he said.
taehyungs jaw dropped a little at that. "you cant do that. we can hang out tomorrow night." he suggested. jungkook wasnt having it thought, bangs bouncing while he shook his head. "my mother doesnt need to eat dinner tonight." he said it with a shrug.
"dude youre terrible. eat dinner with your mom." taehyung shoved him lightly, but his heart jumped a little at how eager the other was to spend time with him. jungkook grumbled though and was dramatic enough to kick a stone across the ground. "can you hold my hand right now at least?" he asked, looking over with bright eyes and a pout.
it would be a crime to say no. taehyung just smiled and nodded, feeling shy now with the handsome male staring at him. their knuckles brushed and fingers soon intertwined.
yeontan walked between them on the ground, the grass soon turning to pavement as they followed the road to where they turned off with the rv. the whole day they wished they found their way back, wanting nothing more than to see that rv and be on their way home ⏤ and now, with their hands together and hearts in time with the other, neither wished this moment could end.
