it was memory and the lingering feeling of a kiss on his temple that pushed him to actually show up here. he remembered the way, knowing the floor and apartment number from the last time he was here. jin knocked on the door, swaying a bit on his heels while he waited for some answer.
he checked his phone, seeing the sweet text from his boyfriend and it made him think of his goodbye kiss again. jin smiled small to himself, then about to knock on the door again, just for it to be swung open.
"uh hi." jungkook looked confused as to why anyone would be here right now — or maybe he didnt even know what was happening considering how out of it he seemed. jins nose turned up at the smell, "dude it reeks." the elder said, walking in without an invitation and already looking around the place.
jungkook was unphased, closing the door with a slight shrug as an answer. "why are you here." he asked, somewhat torn between seeing what the man would say and also going back to lay on the couch.
"i wanted to see how you were doing." jin said.
it had the younger blinking, slow still, but he considered the mans words. "want a beer?" he offered. jungkook walked back to the living room and bent over slightly to grab the side of the case of beer. he tore open the cardboard easily and took a can out, popping the tab and tilting his head back.
"i think im fine." jin preferred his cold. he still came over though, looking around the coffee table that was littered with empty beer cans and a half smoked blunt. it looked a mess and seemed to reflect the state of the younger as well.
jin sat down on the recliner and watched the other male fall back onto the couch, some of the lukewarm beer spilling out the top as he did so and landing on the cushion. the whole place smelled like stale liquor and weed, as if the scent seeped into the carpets and curtains and held with a death grip. it clung to the ravenette too, holding on tight and keeping him there for a bit too long. from the looks of it, jin thought it was safe to say he hasn't left the apartment for a while.
"so what are you bringing to friendsgiving." jin asked, once the silence lasted too long.
jungkook looked over at the elder, then leaned forward to set the beer can back on the coffee table. he leaned over and jin heard the rustling of a plastic bag, followed by the clinking of another can next to the beer.
it was a can of corn, lightly salted.
jin rose an eyebrow and hummed. "i think two cans would have been better." he ended up saying.
the younger didn't say much, or at least not quick enough to jins liking. it had him speaking first, assuming jungkook was too out of it. "this is the part where you make some lame ass joke about not liking birds or something." jin said. "toucans and what not."
the most of a reaction jin got was a slight tug at the corners of his lips, a subtle smirk, not quite a laugh though. "i'm offended." jungkook said, "my humor is much better than that."
"well you can teach me more about it at friendsgiving." jin said it with a smile while he stood. "next saturday at 8." he was going to leave, needing to get away from the stuffiness of the apartment. he wouldn't get what he wanted that easily, not as the boy shrugged and scrunched his nose so subtlety.
"why would you invite me to that." jungkook said, "i don't even know you, or them, like that. not really."
it wasn't a lie. talking over socials and being dumb didn't count as being close, not to jungkook at least. he's been friends with jimin, but he knew the boy had another life with all them. he didn't fit in and he didn't go over for crafts and movie nights and things that just didn't make him feel comfortable. jungkook never knew being let inside a circle could make him feel even more like an outsider.
jungkook would be fine if it was just taehyung there, but he knew that wasn't right. he couldn't ask the boy to only hang out with him, not when he had these friends and roommates around all the time. jungkook couldn't be that selfish.
jin looked down at the boy, and as much as he wanted to run for the door and inhale some fresh air — he sat back down. "i bought you fries at 5 am kid, we're bonded for life." he said.
"you always threw those fries across my room so."
"yeah well i'm not throwing away this budding friendship." jin said. he saw the way jungkook looked up at him, somewhat dazed look still in his eyes, but there was something else, something not to empty anymore. "i will however, throw out this can of corn." jin said, picking up the sad tin of vegetables and looking at it with a frown.
jungkook chuckled a little at that one. "sorry." he said.
"it's fine, we'll come up with something good." jin said, walking into the kitchen and opening cabinets until he found where the trash can was. "we?" jungkook called from his spot on the couch still. "i thought you were on turkey duty."
jin shrugged and came sauntering back over. he didn't sit again, instead crossing his arms loosely over his chest. "i'll put namjoon on that task. he can handle my meat pretty well." the elder winked after, not missing the grimace from the younger who insisted that was too much information that he could have easily lived without.
"so 8 o'clock?" jin said.
"8 o'clock." jungkook repeated.
"and i'll buy the stuff for a good side dish." the older said, voice louder as his back turned and headed for the door. "you just show up and we'll make it." he said.
the ravenette nodded from his spot on the couch, no longer drinking the stale beer and instead playing with a loose string on the hem of his hoodie. seokjin watched him for a moment, hand on the doorknob, "and kook." he said, pausing until the boy looked up and paid him attention. "you should answer jimin." was all he said. he knew jungkook was smart enough to know that the blonde missed him, and it would be nice to give him a call or text back.
it didn't matter that it may have only been a day or two — sometimes that lack of contact is unnerving.
jungkook nodded again, not waiting that much longer to pick up his phone and stand. he started to walk towards the window, back turned away from jin who now opened the door to excuse himself. he paused though, looking back for a moment as jungkook spoke into the phone. "hey chim."
he barely got it out before jin heard the small boys muffled voice through the phone. it was impossible to decipher what jimin was screaming through the phone, but the excitement was clear. jungkook chuckled quietly again, "im fine, i missed-" jungkooks voice got cut off as he opened the door to his balcony to step outside
jin took this as his sign to leave. he had a content little smile on his face as he shut the apartment door and headed back down the hall. the little speed bump seemed smoothed, which felt like a mini weight lifted from jins shoulders as he made his way home.
it was nice to hear jungkook talking on the phone to his friend, even if it was a few seconds and a few words. it had jin pulling out his own phone, dialing that one person that would make his smile too, that same excitement now in his voice the second his boyfriend said hello.
