When life seems a faded love affair
with a shadow of our self,
All of the burdens we yet bear
tend to come crashing down

For we are not our own God
no matter if we wish it so
We do not rule the day or night
we cannot be our own light

There is a distant thunder
underneath a grace misunderstood
There is an echo in the light
flashing deep in the empty woods

As we sleep we lose this edge
This false sense of our control
For there we yet cannot pledge
the world is ours; part or whole

Try as we might to spin our dreams
They turn back on us every time
Lie if we will about all these things
Still there is a void in heart and mind
