The silence in the school hallways was deafening.

I could hear the heavy sound of my boots thudding against the tiled flooring with each step I took; the closer I stepped to my locker, the lower my head ducked in shame.

The students' heads turned as I passed them; some looked at me with disgust, some with uncertainty, some with awe, while some just spared me a glance.

And then, the eerily noiseless hallways didn't seem so silent anymore. The more I paid attention, the more harsh the whispers got; the snickers now audible to me seemed more mocking, and shame settled in my stomach, making me sick.

The cherry on top of my walk till the end of the hallway, where my locker stood was the way my friends were looking at me. Most of them had disbelief written all over their faces, and a couple of them even turned their back on me. I've got to admit, that was a bit dramatic.

The only person giving me a pitiful smile was my best friend who was by my side the minute I reached her.

If only I hadn't tried to impress someone; if only I hadn't trusted them; if only I hadn't been stupid enough to trust my instincts of trusting him... I would've prevented a catastrophe in my teen life.
