The Swimming Pool
A/N I know this is super goofy, it's just my silly version of how guys react to pretty girls. Don't attack me, it was meant ironically.
Luke walked up to the diving board, talking to his best friend Calum, and bumped into someone in front of him. "Oh sorry, I-" He stopped and stared at the beautiful girl in front of him. She gave him a small smile that was a half-smirk and stepped up to the diving board. He stared at her willowy form as she took a step back (and almost backed into him, not that he would've minded at all.. He was too dazed to move) and darted forward, leaping off the board and splashing into the water.
He watched her resurface and paddle to the side of the pool and lift herself out, and walk away to a group of friends. 'Dang..' he randomly thought, 'she must be strong to lift herself out like that..' But that's as far as his thoughts got before Calum nudged him. "Dude, you gotta stop staring at her like that! It's rude. And a bit creepy to be honest.." he finished in a mutter, then spoke up. "C'mon, it's your turn on the diving board. Bet I can do a better cannonball that you!" He challenged with a laugh.
Luke gave himself a mental and physical shake. "You're on!" He yelled and raced forward, hitting the water with a huge splash as he tucked into a cannonball. Calum let out a relieved sigh; he was glad regular Luke, his best friend, was back. The Luke that stared after girls and stopped functioning at the mere accidental touch of a (admittedly pretty) girl was a bit creepy and a lot annoying. "C'mon Calum! Or have you chickened out?" Luke yelled from the water. Calum grinned and dashed forward, tucking into a cannonball at the last second for maximum splash. When he resurfaced, Luke was whipping his dripping hair out of his face and grinning widely.
"Wanna go get something from the snack machine? I'm starving man." Luke asked as they swam to the side of the pool and clambered out somewhat awkwardly. "'Course man, when am I -not- hungry?" Calum laughed as he said this. "Whenever your sister Emiliah cooks?" He said mischievously. Calum shoved Luke, almost sending him back into the pool. "Dude!" Luke exclaimed, sounding hurt. "C'mon Luke, I'll pay for the snacks." Calum said with a sigh and put him arm over the other boy's shoulder and led him to the snack machine. Luke grinned at him "Thanks bro-" He started then suddenly stopped in his tracks. "What?" Calum asked, a bit annoyed.
It was that girl again.. The beautiful, strong, smirking girl he ran into (literally) earlier. He vaguely heard Calum groan in frustration next to him, but he wasn't really listening. He was more concerned with trying to figure out what that glint of gold on her side was. Was it a tattoo? Pen ink? It couldn't be a birthmark, could it? He'd never heard a shimmering gold birthmark before.. But then again, he'd never seen such a beautiful girl before, so anything was possible right?
Luke was still musing when the girl turned around, holding a Coke in her hand and smiling widely at one of her friends (he'd never seen such a warm smile before, she must be really good friends with that short, perky blonde girl, he thought) and he figured it out. It was a tattoo, he could see the overlapping gold rhombuses with little turquoise squares winding from her side, just under her ribcage, to the hem of her amethyst swim shorts under her navel. He was distracted from his marveling when she laughed at something her red-headed friend said, and he stopped thinking at all. Her laugh was so soft and girlish tinkling that it took his breath away.
Calum had had enough of Luke's ogling at this point and grabbed his arm, hissing "C'mon man, let's go! I'm tired of this." He started to drag him away when the girl suddenly spoke. "Hey, you, is he okay?" She pointed at Luke, who still looked dazed and wasn't moving. "He's fine!" Calum growled and attempted to drag Luke away. "No, he isn't." She said, handing her Coke to her red-headed friend and walking closer to Luke and Calum, who was still gripping his arm.
She gently grabbed Luke's chin and turned his head from side to side to examine for any injuries. "I don't think he's alright at all. Callie!" She called without turning around. "Yeah? What's up? You need me to get somebody?" The red-head girl who was still standing by the snack machine, holding the other girl's Coke, looked up from her conversation with the blonde girl, at the mystery girl.
"Yes, please get a life-guard. I'm not sure what's wrong with him." She said, still examining Luke for injuries. She didn't find anything so she leaned closer to look into Luke's eyes and waved her hand in front of his face. His gaze sharpened and he seemed to realize the situation, for he looked nervous and didn't seem able to speak. "Hey," she said softly. "Are you okay? Did you hit your head or anything?" She asked Luke, and when he didn't answer, she straightened up and looked at Calum. "Do you know if he hit-"
Calum cut her off, annoyed with Luke for being so stupid and at her for interfering and everyone, really, because he so didn't want to be in this situation. "I told you, he's fine! Now get out of the way, we're going home." Calum tried to shove past her but suddenly found that he was facing four angry teenage girls and Luke was suddenly nowhere to be found. Uh oh... He thought.
"Look! Aubrey was just trying to help, you little-" "Prat! You obviously weren't any use, you were just going to drag your friend away-" "What if something is wrong with him? What if you just made it worse, by getting in her way-" "Me, in your way?! I have more medical experience than you, I was trying to help!" They flung harsh words at him, knowing he had no ammo, no real grounds to fight back. Calum knew it too, and blinked quickly and started to back away. He knew he was in over his head, he had no idea what to do when four angry girls were yelling at him.
Suddenly, he felt a hand on his shoulder. He jumped, scared it was one of them. But when he whipped around, it was just a life-guard. He steered Calum away from the girls towards Luke, who was standing at the gate next to the life-guard station. The life-guard signaled to a woman, also in a life-guard uniform, to go calm down the girls, who were still grouped near the snack machine. They were whispering fiercely and throwing dirty looks in his direction.
Except, he noticed before he turned around, the girl named Aubrey was looking concernedly at Luke. Calum jolted. He'd felt nothing but dislike towards that group of girls, especially Aubrey, since they'd met not even a half hour ago (if you could call that meeting..). But seeing how much she cared if Luke, some random boy she didn't know, was alright; it touched him. Maybe she wasn't so bad after all.. He thought as he turned around and followed the life-guard, who said his name was Sebastian, towards Luke and the exit.
"Hey, sorry again man. I dunno what happened back there, I couldn't think straight." Luke was still apologizing to Calum, who was just ready to be home already so he could get something to eat (he never did get anything from the snack machine..) and go sit in on his bed so he could practice on his guitar for a while in peace. "It's fine Luke, I'm just tired. Hey look, there's your mom! Dude, why does she look pissed off?" He wondered, looking confused. Luke looked up, alarmed, then suddenly a look of horror dawned on him. "I forgot to call her to say when I'd be home!" He looked sick to his stomach, seeing the look of worry and anger on Liz Hemmings's face.
"Bye Luke!" Calum called at Luke's retreating back as he jogged towards his own house and away from the worry on Mrs. Hemmings's face. Man, he shook his head, today had been weird.
A/N *waves awkwardly* Hey everybody! How's it going? Everybody ready to laugh at, cry with, and get emotionally attached to these characters of mine? Just so you know, there is (obviously) going to be a lot of shipping later on. Comment who your fave ships are! I love hearing about them :)) Anyways, thanks to everybody who bothered to read this far xD and hopefully you'll stick with my characters for a while so I can show you what good (and bad ;) hint hint) people they are. And I gotta admit, I have no idea if this is how guys actually feel when they see someone they find beautiful, I just thought I would put my goofy version of it. Oh and if anybody was confused, the four girls yelling at Calum were Aubrey, Callie (the red-head), Faith (the short blonde girl), and a dirty blonde that was not specifically mentioned called Samantha. Btw, Calum and Luke are 12, almost 13. And the girls are newly 13. Oh and please tell me if you find something wrong, like if I've made a typo or inaccuracy with some of the personal info of the boys. Just put it in the comments section and I'll fix it as soon as I can. And fair warning, I'm going to be updating as much as I possibly can, but at home I'm only allowed to have a single hour on the computer per day, and sometimes I'm too busy to get on and write. Anyways, have a great life everybody!! ^.^ xD
