Part 9

That Friday Patton was back at school feeling better than ever. He practically hopped into the building and saw Lacy pinning up a poster for the pep rally.

"Hey Lacy!" He chimed holding it so it was easier for her to staple.

"Thanks Patton." She sighed.

"How is the pep rally coming along?" He asked.

"Well I had to do all the last minute work yesterday, but I think it'll work out fine." She replied.

"Yeah sorry... I was sick." He frowned feeling a little bad.

"I figured, it must have been pretty bad for you to skip school." She replied. "It all worked out in the end so no big deal."

"That's good." He replied with a smile.

"Are you going to the festival tomorrow?" She asked him casually as she moved to the next hall and she helped hang up another poster.

"Mhm!" He nodded happily. "With a friend."

"Ah, Well make sure you stop by our booth. We're making fresh crapes!" She smiled.

"I'll make sure we do." He assured her smiling back.

"Patton you have returned. And In full health I hope." Logan started walking up behind him as he stood next to his locker.

"Yep!" Patton chirped happily, feeling his heart flutter upon seeing his new found crush. "All thanks to you."

Logan smiled at him. "I am glad."

Patton felt his cheeks warm slightly and looked away from the other. "Thanks by the way."

"My pleasure." He nodded.

The bell rang, and Logan started to leave.

"Logan!" Patton called to stop him. He suddenly felt himself grow a little nervous. "Um... we're still going to the festival tomorrow right?"

Logan turned around to look at him. "If you are feeling up to it."

"I am! It's a date." Patton felt his face burn bright red. "I mean- it's not a date! I mean it's not like a date date- like romantic- it's like a friendship- two friends going out together completely platonically date..." He started stumbling over his words.

Logan laughed slightly a bit of pink dusting his cheeks as well, causing Patton to feel like he could explode. "I'll see you later." He then left before he was late to class.

Patton sighed at himself looking down.

"Hey Patton buddy good to see you ba- woah, why do you look like a tomato?" Roman asked walking up to him.

"It's nothing- I mean I don't! Let's just go..." he closed his locker and started walking toward his first period, Roman trailing behind him curiously.

Patton slid into the passenger seat of Logan's car that afternoon after the pep rally. In which Alexandria did great as a replacement cheerleader.

He'd been quiet around Logan. Well quieter than usual. And Logan noticed.

"Patton." He stated not pulling out of the parking lot.

"Hm?" Patton questioned looking over at him.

"Are you Alright?" He asked. "You genuinely are feeling better correct? You got enough rest last night?"

"Yup, I'm fine!" Patton chirped smiling.

"You say that often." Logan muttered.

"What?" Patton asked his smile falling.

"'I'm fine' you say it so often." Logan explained. "What brings me discomfort is the question of if you really mean it most of the time." He looked over to the other male with a solemn expression.

"I... um I don't know what you mean..." Patton trailed off letting his gaze fall down. "You don't need to worry." He shook his head slowly.

"Patton." Logan placed his thumb and forefinger on his chin making him look back up at him. He then moved his hand to gently rub his thumb against The dark area under Patton's right eye. "How can I not worry?"

Patton felt a spark go through his body, and couldn't help but love the fact that Logan was touching him. He felt his cheeks dust pink and smiled shyly leaning into his hand. "Logan... I'm okay. I promise."

Logan felt his heart skip a beat and quickly retracted his hand, as if realizing what he had done, started the car and cleared his throat. "Very well then." He kept his face turned to hide his blush and drove out of the parking lot.

Patton let the small smile remain on his face as he leaned back in the seat and looked out the window. He felt like he could die right now and be happy.

Midway through the next day Patton was anxiously pacing his living room floor. He fixed his hair in the mirror above the fireplace for the fifth time in the last ten minutes and sighed.

Why was he getting so nervous? It was just Logan. They were just going to a festival together. It wasn't even a date...

I wouldn't mind if it was though... No! Patton stop it! He's just a friend... yeah... a friend.

He literally jumped out of his thoughts when he heard a car horn honk in the front of his house. He grabbed his wallet and started toward the front door.

Okay Patton you can do this. Just... don't make things awkward. He took a deep breath.

"Patton." A voice sounded behind him.

"Mom." He turned around seeing her poking out of the kitchen. He didn't even realize she was home.

"Where are you going? Who is that?" She asked casually her tone almost sounding cold.

"Um... just a friend. We're going to the school's culture festival. I helped set it up, so I have to go anyway, to be polite."

"Alright." She replied emotionlessly. "Do you need any money?"

"Um... no I have enough." He replied his expression not moving from the flat one he'd been wearing.

"Okay, I have some work to do at the office in an hour so I'll be back late. Don't stay out too long." She started walking down the hall.

"Goodbye to you too." Patton frowned before walking out the front door making sure it closed behind him.

-&-

"Wow look how pretty!" Patton exclaimed at the colorful lanterns hanging above their heads connected by white fairy lights.

"It is quite a pleasing arrangement, ent to the eye." Logan agreed.

Patton giggled. "You're such a dork."

"Is that supposed to be a disheartening comment?" Logan asked.

"No~" Patton replied laughing again. "I'm just teasing!"

"Hm... seems I'm not very accustomed to the concepts of things like teasing and what you call sarcasm." He replied fixing his glasses.

"Obviously..." Patton muttered in amusement rolling his eyes slightly. "Oh look!" He stopped in front of a booth. "I've always want one of these!" He looked over the assortment of lucky cats.

"They're seven dollars." Alexandria said politely from behind the booth. "But for you Patton I'll knock it down to five." She gave a friendly wink.

"Hm... I don't know." Patton pondered.

"I'll get it for you." Logan offered pulling out his wallet.

"What no." Patton refused. "I have money if I really wanted it I could buy it myself."

"You said you've always wanted it. Besides I don't mind." Logan handed Alexandria the five dollar bill. "Choose one."

Patton smiled. "Well since you aren't giving me a choice." He sighed. "That one." He pointed.

Alexandria looked between the two of them and smiled. She then handed Patton the one he asked for. "Enjoy."

"Okay big shot since you felt the need to buy me something I'll buy you a little snack." Patton smiled. "Come on I know someone selling some great crapes." He skipped off into the crowd.

-&-

"That was quite delicious." Logan admitted as they threw their wrapper away in a nearby trash can.

"Told you." Patton replied.

His smile had almost never fallen the whole time and Logan found himself observing it. It seemed like it always did when he was with him. Logan noticed the way Patton acted and smiled around others or people who were asking him for things. He was always a bit off, but when he was with Patton he always seemed genuine. He couldn't help but wonder why such simple things he did for the boy resulted in sparking such a real sense of happiness.

"The fireworks are going to start soon we should find a spot." He pointed out.

"Right." Logan nodded.

They found a quiet grassy hill on the other side of the soccer field and sat down there.

They chatted a bit about Mr. Conti, their assignment, the play, and Virgil and Roman and before they knew it a loud bang sounded sending sparks through the sky.

"Look they started!" Patton exclaimed turning his attention to the sky.

Logan watched too and then glanced back over at the other widening his eyes slightly.

Patton was entranced by the show, and the fireworks reflected in his eyes making their brown color shine.

He then blinked slowly looking over to Logan. "What?" He asked blushing slightly. "Why are you staring at me?"

Logan shook his head. "It's nothing. Are you warm enough?"

Patton smiled looking back up to the sky. He leaned onto Logan contently. "Yup."

-&-

Logan pulled up in front of Patton's house an hour later and parked the car.

"Thanks for going with me Logan it was really fun." Patton said quietly feeling his shyness kick back in.

"You're welcome it was indeed enjoyable." Logan nodded.

Patton smiled and leaned down to grab his luck cat.

"Patton." Logan called his name.

He turned to look at him. "Hm?"

Logan watched him for a second before leaning in and pressing his lips to the other male's.

Patton widened his eyes slightly not expecting the kiss at all. His hear was racing and his mind ran blank. He slowly let his eyes close and kissed back.

Logan pulled away quickly looking ahead of him and out the windshield. "I'm sorry."

Patton was left a little breathless still but shook his head to compose himself. He gave a small laugh. "F-for What?"

"It's just..." Logan glanced at him out of the corner of his eye and looked away guiltily. "Can we forget that happened?"

"What?" Patton asked feeling his heart drop to his stomach.

"Can we just forget that happened?" Logan repeated.

Patton watched him for a few seconds trying to find any evidence that he was kidding, but found none. He looked away in shock for a moment. "Sure. Whatever you want." He replied before opening the car door and getting out.

Logan winced at the sound of the door slamming shut again so hard it rocked the car slightly.

Patton ran toward his door feeling warm tears prickle at his bottom eyelids. He was crushed and furious at the same time. I don't understand... did I do something wrong? He asked himself. His back fell against the front door as he closed it behind him. No... he just simply doesn't like me... He felt his heart clench at his new conclusion. He quickly started to walk toward the staircase to hide in his room.

"Patton." A voice from the couch stopped him.

He froze on the first step swallowing a lump in his throat and holding the tears where they were before slowly turning around. "Dad?"

"I need to have a discussion with you." His father sighed seeming disappointed about something.

"I-" Patton took a breath. He couldn't hold the tears in for long. "I'm really tiered Dad... could we talk in the morning?"

He scowled not seeming happy with the request. "Fine, But we will talk."

"Of course." Patton replied and then turned around and ran up the stairs and to his room finally letting the tears out.

Meanwhile...

Logan still sat in his car. He hadn't pulled away from Patton's house yet. He felt so much guilt form in his stomach he felt like he could be sick. He felt sad too and held in a few tears himself. "No... I promised myself..." He whispered to no one in particular. His forehead fell onto the steering wheel. "I promised I'd never fall in love again..."

Hey guys, wow I know all of you are probably angry with me, but there's and explanation I swear! I hope you all are enjoying the story so far. Vote and comment bye!
