Part 7

Patton walked down the hall two days later. He had stayed home from school the previous day because he hadn't felt very well, and Roman mothered him into staying home from school. But he refused to take another day off today even though he didn't feel great. He couldn't afford to miss school. A lot of people relied on him.

"Oh my God Patton, thank goodness you're here. We're behind in the pep club, there's a pep rally Friday, because they decided to move it up a week and just told us now, and we are not ready!" Lacy ran up to him seeming to be freaking out. Her hair was a mess and her bag had a thousand thinks poking out of the sides.

Patton felt a twinge of pain in his head as a few girls walked by and laughed loudly. He tried to ignore it. "Okay calm down, we have some time before class we can have an emergency meeting, get everyone gathered in the club room."

"Alright." She sighed in relief and ran off.

He turned around quickly and ran into someone. His head pulsed again and he couldn't help but wince slightly. "Sorry."

"Patton are you okay?" Virgil looked up to him seeming confused.

"I'm fine, sorry Virg I gotta go, tell Logan I said hi." Patton said quickly before running down the hall. The air rushing by only making his headache worse.

-&-

"Alright is everyone here?" Patton asked as Lacy and the others walked in.

"Everyone but the cheerleaders. This is the best I could do." She said plopping down in her chair.

Patton sighed before smiling weakly. "That's fine, we'll just have them do an old routine. Now let's get started."

-&-

"Hey Patton buddy." Roman greeted him by their lockers with a worried look. "Did you sleep well last night?"

"No..." Patton trailed off opening his locker. "My head hurt too bad."

Prince noticed his very rare bad mood. "If you still don't feel well you should go home."

Patton realized he'd worried him and perked up. "Oh no it's better now." He lied.

"Alright, just try and take it easy today, no spreading yourself too thin, Okay?" Roman replied.

"Yes sir!" Patton replied with a little two finger salute.

Roman chuckled seeming to let go of a bit of his worry. "Alright I'll see you later." He left.

-&-

"Patton Sanders." A stern voice stopped him on his way to study hall.

He winced and turned around. "Yes miss Bogs?"

No one really liked miss Bogs. She was one of those teachers who just always seemed to be in an annoyed mood, and made you feel like you were constantly doing things wrong. Not to mention she was completely unfair when it came to grading...

"You were absent yesterday." She stated. "We had a test."

Patton suddenly panicked in his mind. I FORGOT THAT TEST IS WORTH HALF OUT GRADE THIS SEMESTER!!! I felt so horrible I didn't study all yesterday! "I-I can do it now!"

"You'll have to, grades are due tonight and I'm leaving in forty minutes." She placed her hands on her hips not seeming amused.

"Well I can do it." Patton assured her. Great and I only have a limited amount of time to do it.

"Good, you can use the review sheet we got in Monday." She stated turning into her room before muttering. "Wouldn't be a problem if people just showed up to school..."

Please tell me I have the review sheet, I don't have time to run to my locker if it's there! I quickly opened my bag and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing it. Finally something goes right...

"Patton?" A voice sounded behind him.

He turned his head. "Hey Logan."

He frowned. "Virgil told me you didn't seem well, at you o-"

"I'm sorry, but I really have to go."

"But-" Logan was cut off again.

"Mr Sanders!?" Miss Bogs voice boomed from her room.

Patton winced feeling his head pulse in pain again from the sound. "I'm sorry." Patton apologized again before leaving him behind and running into the room.

-&-

Patton groggily walked his way toward lunch after the test. Well I don't think I failed, but I definitely didn't ace it either. He sighed. Normally he'd care more, but right now he just wanted food and some peace and quiet.

"Patton?" A voice asked.

For once he hated his name after hearing it being called so many times that day. His head was pumping, and he just wanted to relax. Despite this he turned toward the gym with a smile. "Yes Lacy?"

"We have a problem." She still seemed really worried and stressed, but it seemed at least she found time to brush her hair.

"What is it?" He asked worry sparking in him as well at her tone.

"Follow me." She replied slipping back into the gym.

He did as told, and they approached the group of cheerleaders all gathered around something.

Patton widened his eyes as he saw the girl sitting down amongst them. Her blond hair was pulled back neatly in a high pony tail and she was obviously holding back tears her mascara clumping on the sides of her eyes. "My god what happened?!" Patton exclaimed looking at the swollen purple ankle the girl was clutching painfully.

"We we're practicing the old routine we were gonna do for the pep rally and she slipped." Another girl answered.

"You need to get the nurse." Patton told them.

"No!" The injured girl shouted making a twinge of pain once again go through Patton's brain. "She May say I can't cheer in the pep rally Friday."

"You can't, your health is more important." Patton assured her.

"But we need ten girls for the routine." Another girl chimed in. "Without her There's only nine."

"Not to mention she's the only one light enough to go on top of the pyramid." The first girl who spoke up added.

"Well can't you do another routine?" Patton asked. "One that works with nine people."

"We don't have any that would work memorized yet, since cheer tryouts  were delayed, and out senior rep Sandy was kicked out of school for smoking on campus, we don't have enough time to come up with a whole new one...." Another one explained.

"We can't have a pep rally without cheerleaders." Lacy said turning to me.

"Alright... I'll try to find a girl willing, able, and small enough to go on top of the pyramid, do you think you could teach them this routine in the time we have?" Patton asked.

The girls looked amongst themselves before nodding.

"Okay, Lacy take her to the nurse, you guys keep practicing, I'll be right back." Patton tried to get things back in order before everyone went off to play their roles.

-&-

"You want me to sub in for a cheerleader?" Alexandria asked raising a brow at Patton.

Patton looked down at the extremely small girl with straight black hair. "Yes, just for the pep rally."

She laughed. "Patton I may have been in gymnastics, but cheerleading really isn't my thing. Plus don't you think I'd stand out a bit. They are all tall, blond (whether natural or not), and I doubt any of them wear anything under a D cup (again whether natural or not)."

Patton stifled a laugh before clearing his throat. "So? It's just a one time thing, besides who cares if you're different, you can do it."

She sighed. "Alright... But only cause you hooked me up with Jared." She smiled. "I'm doing this to repay you, and that's all, got it?"

"Yep!" Patton chirped.

-&-

Patton wandered into his advanced English class and looked at Logan who was tapping his pencil like he was waiting nervously. Patton plopped into his seat sighing in relief.

Logan looked over to him. "You didn't come to lunch."

Patton blinked over at him surprised he'd noticed, let alone cared, that he hadn't eaten lunch with him. When he abandoned all the other tables he used to eat at no one seemed to even bat an eyelash. He then smiled. "Yeah... sorry I was busy during lunch."

"Did you eat?" He asked seeming to take a slight worry.

Patton opened his mouth to answer, but the bell rang, class started, and he was hushed to silence.

-&-

Patton left quickly after the bell rang to end class. He didn't want to leave Logan behind, but he had to check on how progress was going with Alexandria before his next class. He quickly made his way to the gym and peeked in.

Alexandria was doing great, she was nailing the flips, and the girls were all working together to make sure she got it perfect.

Patton quickly went to his next class.

-&-

Among the time that he had his last few classes Patton had helped the art club paint the banners for the pep rally, helped Jamie from the stage crew finish highlighting scripts(making sure to say hi to Roman and Virgil while he was there), and helped comfort a crying freshman who locked herself in the supply closet wailing about how her asshole ex boyfriend left her for a girl from a different school.

All in all... he was EXHAUSTED. He wanted nothing more than to just go home and lay down.

His headache hadn't gone away the whole time. In fact now it felt even worse. He felt even worse. He was weak, hot, queasy, and felt like his whole body was aching.

"Patton?!" Logan met him in the front hall and had to steady him. "You look... horrific."

"Gee thanks... you're such a charmer." Patton joked weakly.

Logan had to hold him up more. He placed a hand to his forehead. "You're burning up. You should go to the nurse."

"No. No... I'm fine. I just wanna go home." Patton replied coughing a little.

"Alright... come on." Logan agreed hesitantly. He then help him slowly walk out of the school and into his car.

-&-

Logan helped Patton lay down onto his couch. He then set the boy's stuff to the side and dug though his own bag to pull out a water bottle, still not opened, he broke the seal and handed it to him. "Drink this it'll help with the fever."

Patton took it without a word sipping it calmly. He felt exhausted still, and his eyes were drooping.

"Do you have medicine anywhere?" He asked.

Patton nodded slowly pointing to the kitchen. "Cabinet above the stove."

Logan stood silently and retrieved the medicine. He came back with two aspirin, and a generic pill to help control fever and settle sore throats.

Patton took them all with the water as Logan walked back into the kitchen.

Patton continued sipping water and enjoying the quiet for a while, dozing off a few times, before he heard Logan walk back into the room and he opened his eyes.

"I prepared you soup. I know you may not desire to eat, but you must keep your strength up." Logan told him as he helped him sit up and take the bowl.

Patton smiled. "Thank you." He took a spoon full and lit up for a second. "This is really good." He ate it quickly letting it warm his belly.

"I'm sorry if I upset you by pestering you so much, and I know your life should be none of my business, but I have to urge you again to take better care of yourself. I may have no place to tell you what to do, but If you are unwell, don't come to school, and certainly don't make yourself worse by doing everything everyone asks of you. You are only one person, they can live without you for a few days." Logan tried to assure him.

Patton finished his soup, and placed it on the coffee table next to him. "You're saying I'm spreading myself too thin?" Roman was right... his smile fell.

Logan nodded. "It is obviously affecting your personal health. You could be harmed greatly one day if you continue going on like this."

"You're worried aren't you?" Patton said feeling bad at the way Logan was looking at him. He didn't mean to scare him so much, but at the same time he felt his heart skip a beat, and he was glad his already warm cheeks hid the blush that crept onto them.

Logan reacted as if the question surprised him. He then composed himself. "Yes I suppose I am." He hadn't really noticed it, but he had indeed started to worry for Patton. Quite greatly, and he was kind of confused about it. It's not that he was a bad person, but he didn't normally worry so much for someone so soon.

Patton felt his heartbeat speed up and another smile tug at his lips. "I'm sorry."

Logan felt a twinge at his small voice, and for some reason felt a small amount of guilt, even though he knew he didn't do anything wrong, still the way Patton said it made him feel bad. "It is quite alright." He told him. "You should get some rest."

"Yeah..." Patton yawned laying down properly again. "I am pretty tiered."

Logan handed him a blanket. "Do you even sleep at night?"

"Not really..." Patton replied closing his eyes.

Logan was surprised by his honesty. "Why not?"

Patton yawned again before turning onto his side, not opening his eyes. "It's always too quiet..."

"Too quiet?" Logan questioned.

"Mhm." Patton replied. "Too lonely..." he trailed off before he fell silent and his breathing calmed.

Logan felt another new emotion. Sympathy... he reached out to touch the sleeping boy's face, but upon realizing what he was doing stopped himself. He then got up, gathered his things, and left.

Hey guys, I hope you liked the new chapter. Awe my poor beeb, Logan save him! Anyway tell me what you thought. Vote and comment, bye!
