~Part 32~

Also I was too lazy (plus the chapter would have been like 100 pages and take forever to publish) to actually write out the whole idea I had for the play, but maybe I'll publish it as a couple bonus chapters at the end or something ;)
Virgil was backstage trying with all his might to block out all the bustling teens around him.
"Virgil," Jamie stated making him flick his eyes open and gasp a little. She was so busy she didn't seem to notice his reaction. "Good your makeup is already done, Erin has the finishing touches for your costume go see her now please."
"R-right," Virgil managed to say. He stood up, feeling his legs shaking tremendously, but managed to start walking over to where Erin was.
"There you are!" Erin smiled at him, but you could tell she was rushing just as much as everyone else. "Come here, let me fix your costume up properly."
He stepped toward her and she started making sure everything was in place properly as well as adding a few final touches. She then looked at his face. "Virgil," she stated gently placing a hand on his shoulder. She smiled kindly when he met her eyes. "Breathe. Everything is going to be okay."
He tried to force a small smile but kind of failed. "I don't think I can do this."
She frowned slightly. "Of corse you can. Just because you have anxiety doesn't mean you can't do what you really love. And I've watched you on stage, you really do love it."
Virgil seemed surprised by her words. "How'd you know I had anxiety? Did Roman tell you?"
She shook her head. "Mmm... no. I can just tell. My little sister has it too, so I could tell the signs basically from the first day I met you. My parents and I have helped her deal with it all her life. She still has her moments of course, but she's gotten so much better at taking chances. You can too, and you will."
Virgil smiled feeling himself able to take a breath. "Thanks Erin."
"Erin! Charlie needs you!" someone called further backstage.
"Alright alright!" Erin called back before walking off, flashing Virgil one last smile.
"FIVE MINUTES!" Mrs. Chance shouted.
Suddenly the slight comfort Virgil felt went away and was replaced again with the anxious feeling.
"Hey Virge, you ready?" Roman asked jogging up to him and tapping his shoulder. "Woah, are you okay?"
"No," Virgil managed. "I'm not-" he gasped. "I'm not okay. I'm freaking out. I- I can't do this." He was desperately holding tears.
"Okay okay... look at me." Roman stated. He then placed his hands on Virgil's shoulders turning him toward him, and moving his face closer to the others. "Virgil, look at me."
The shorter let his eyes trail to his costar's, feeling his heart skip a beat.
"Everything is going to be okay. We've practiced this for weeks. You know your lines perfectly. Besides..." he paused letting his hand rub down Virgil's arm gently and take his hand. "I'll be right with you the entire time."
Virgil felt himself calm considerably as he watched the boy in front of him, but he was still shaking.
Roman smiled at him squeezing his hand gently. "Would it help if I told you I was nervous too?"
Virgil stifled a small laugh. "I don't know if I believe that."
"It's true!" Roman defended playfully. "It doesn't matter if I've done this a million times, I still get a bit of stage fright every time."
Virgil sniffled taking a deep breath.
"Feeling better now?" Roman asked him.
Virgil nodded his head yes.
"Good." Roman smiled at him, brushing his hand against Virgil's cheek lightly. "The last thing we need is for your makeup to get ruined."
Virgil fought off a smile, feeling his heart skip a beat at the slight contact.
"Roman, Virgil." Jamie's calm voice snapped them away from each other. They both looked to her. "Places please."
"Right." Roman nodded blushing slightly. "Lets go." He didn't let go of Virgil's hand and dragged him slightly into the wings to wait. He finally released his grip when it was his time to go on stage, being sure to flash Virgil one last smile before going out to begin playing his part perfectly.

Virgil was sitting next to Roman on stage. It was their kiss scene and he felt nerves, that surprisingly seemed to disappear most of the performance, return in the pit of his stomach. They had of course practiced the scene the night before during the full dress rehearsal, but at the time that didn't make him feel as anxious. Maybe it was because now it was in front of so many people, or maybe it was because he sensed something between them had changed.
Either way he was so nervous he almost forgot his final cue, but quickly realized in time, and nodded after Roman delivered his line. He then closed his eyes moving forward only slightly.
Roman's lips met his, still in a way that was slow, but not quite as softly as before, but not in a way that made it less desirable, more in a way that just showed greater comfort. Virgil kissed back, almost completely forgetting the fact that there were over a hundred people watching them. The kiss just as well done as when they practiced before, except this time when Roman pulled away from it he didn't lean back and remained close to him, his lips still hovering just in front of the others.
The scene ended, the curtain closed, and the two boys were left sitting in the dark. Neither of them moved for a few seconds.
Virgil had shivers go up his body when he felt Roman kiss him again. Why is he kissing me the scene is over?? He panicked internally, feeling utterly confused. Still he found himself parting his lips slightly and kissing back.
Roman let his hand snake around to behind Virgil's ear and pulled him closer, deepening the kiss slightly. He then pulled away for a split second only to tilt his head the other way and connected their lips again. He didn't quite understand his actions, but found Vrgil's lips somewhat intoxicating.
They could hear Mrs. Chance's slightly muffled voice on the other side of the curtain announcing the short break for intermission to the audience.
Roman pulled away both of them taking heavy breaths. He opened his eyes, but it was too dark for him to see much of anything aside from the slight shininess of Virgil's eyes.
They suddenly heard the stage crew start to shuffle their way through the curtains.
Roman let his costar go, snapping out of it, and standing as Erin approached them with a flashlight.
"Hey guys, great job so far." She smiled happily. "Most of the audience went to get snacks and such for intermission, so you guys can go backstage and go to the bathroom or get some water before the second act starts, okay?"
"Got it, thanks Erin." Roman smiled. The dimmer stage lights then turned on, making things more visible. Roman looked back at Virgil for a second before coughing somewhat nervously and disappearing backstage.
Virgil had stood as well, but felt a little frozen still. He felt lightheaded, his cheeks were warm, and some of his nerves where Roman touched him tingled. He folded his lips in and licked them slightly, he could still taste Roman's. He put a hand over his mouth the realization started to sink in deeper. His mind was reeling. What just happened?

After the play Roman and Virgil were with all the actors who were lined up just outside the auditorium smiling and thanking audience members for coming. Some of them received roses and gifts as they met with the audience members.
"There he is!" A happy voice exclaimed as Virgil's mother approached the two leads. "My baby boy, I'm so proud of you." She hugged him giving his a kiss on the cheek.
"Mom~" Virgil complained feeling slightly embarrassed, but he couldn't help but smile.
"Okay okay, I'll let you get to the rest of you guests." She handed him a bouquet of a dozen roses. "You did fantastically too dear!" She told Roman pinching one of his cheeks slightly.
"Thank you Ruby." He smiled at the cute woman
"I'll see you at home Virgey! Goodbye for now Roman, I expect to being seeing you in the future." She gave Virgil a look before walking off.
Virgil blushed causing Roman to laugh.
A few people walked by congratulating them, or telling them they did well, and they of course in turn thanked them. Roman received a paper crown from a little girl, who told him she made it special for him, so he decided to wear it.
"Omg you guys did so good!" Patton exclaimed practically hopping up to them. He hugged Virgil first, taking the emo boy completely by surprise, before jumping over to Roman, both of them exchanging a bear hug.
"Ha Ha Thanks buddy," Roman stated happily.
Logan calmly walked up behind him, holding two bouquets of roses. "It was indeed an enjoyable show, and the performance was very believable."
"Thanks Logan." Virgil smiled, knowing there was a lot more meaning behind his cut-and-dry words.
Patton took one of the bouquets excitedly. "Virgil this is for you." He handed it to him.
Virgil shifted his other roses into one arm and took it. "Oh uh- Thank you."
"And of course we got one for you too Roman!" Patton gestured to Logan, who in turn handed it to Roman.
"Thank you Logan." Roman smiled politely.
"Patton, we should move on now, so others can speak with them." Logan suggested, placing a hand on his boyfriend's back.
"Okay..." Patton frowned slightly, but the smile quickly returned to his face. "Bye guys! I'll see you on Monday!"
"See you on Monday." The two costars replied simultaneously. They then watched as the couple walked off together.
Virgil struggled a bit as he balanced the two dozen roses in both arms.
Roman smirked at him. "Popular aren't you?"
Virgil felt himself blush at the comment and looked to the floor. He couldn't stop thinking back to their kiss backstage. "Not really..."
"Let me help you with that Virgil." Erin stated walking up behind him and taking the bouquets, placing them in vases they had prepared. She then took Roman's as well.
"Thanks Erin," Virgil replied.
"No problem," she responded. "And you did wonderfully." She whispered to him alone, giving a supportive wink before continuing to make her way down the line, assisting others.
A group of four girls then approached them whispering and giggling amongst themselves. "You do it." "No you." "You're the most social." "You have to tell them." Suddenly they pushed one of the girls out and toward the two males.
The girl smiled slightly shyly, folding her hands behind her back and swaying slightly. "Um... we just wanted to tell you that you guys did really well."
"Awe thank you so much!" Roman told her gleefully.
"Yes Thank you." Virgil nodded with a small smile of his own.
"And you guys looked really cute together too!" Another one of the girls blurted out behind her, causing the others to break out once again into giggles as they shushed their friend.
The girl looked back at her friends before pulling out her phone. "Um I understand if you don't want to, but can I take a few pictures of you?"
"Sure thing!" Roman replied before looking to his costar and raising an eyebrow.
"Um, I guess that would be fine." Virgil replied.
"Great! Thanks so much." She replied getting her camera ready.
Roman leaned in closer to Virgil, both of them smiling as the girl snapped a picture. He then suddenly wrapped an arm around the shorter's shoulder, pulling him closer, and turning his head to kiss him on the cheek, taking him by surprise.
The girl snapped another picture as her and the others broke out into a fit of squeals. "Oh my god thank you!" She exclaimed.
As they all walked away they crowded around her phone. "Oh my god that was so amazing!" "Let me see let me see!" "A such a great shot too!" "You have to send it to all of us!"
Roman released the other and chuckled at their reaction.
Meanwhile Virgil kept his gaze glued to the floor, hiding his burning red cheeks. He almost felt like he couldn't breathe. Stupid Roman... he thought to himself. Don't mess around like that. He tried to compose himself, but his feelings were going wild.
Don't you know what it does to my heart..?
