~Part 24~
Prinxiety is back! (Just to not have the timeline confusion, this begins on the Saturday before the dance aka the Saturday Patton and Logan had their "coffee date" and when Patton went to the party.) don't worry though it goes back to the dance ;)
Roman yawned stretching his arms above his head as he sat in the theater chair. He then closed his eyes and leaned back. Saturday rehearsals were always his least favorite. He didn't mind having to come in longer or anything like that, but he hated having to wake up early on one of the only days he got to sleep in.
"Roman." A voice sounded.
He opened one eye to look who it was. "Oh hey Jamie..." he then sat up, opening his eyes and giving her his full attention. "What's up?"
She wrote something on a clipboard and then ripped it from the stack of papers on-top. "Would you please go pick up the coffee orders from Warm & Cozy? Mrs. Chance says we don't have time to stop but since we all seem tired she would treat us to some drinks." She held out the paper as well as a credit card he assumed to be Mrs. Chance's toward him.
"Sure thing." He grabbed it before hopping up, grabbing his jacket off the chair next to him, and swinging it around his shoulder. "I've got nothing better to do."
"Thank you," she replied. "Oh and take someone else who isn't busy with you, you can't care it all by yourself." She then walked off to whatever her next duty was.
Roman turned around to look at who was free, and instantly saw Virgil sitting in the back on his phone. He made his way back there before tapping him on the leg. "Hey Virgil."
Said boy looked kind of surprised to be addressed and glanced up at him, locking his phone. A scowl formed on his lips. "What do you want Princey?"
Roman smiled in amusement to himself at the nickname before turning back to his costar. "Come on I need your help with something."
"With what?" Virgil asked not getting up.
"That doesn't matter," Roman replied taking the other's phone and starting to walk off. "Just come on."
"Roman!" Virgil shouted quickly getting up, grabbing his bag, and running after him. "Where are we going??"
-&-
Virgil's phone was now safely back in his pocket as they walked into the familiar coffee shop.
"Why are you always so pushy all of the time?" Virgil asked in annoyance.
"I don't know." Roman shrugged. "If I'd of asked would you have really said yes?"
Virgil looked at him a moment before looking ahead of him again. "I don't know... maybe."
Roman chuckled shaking his head before walking up to the counter, Virgil following. "I'm here to pick up order 13."
The young woman behind the counter smiled politely before looking at her screen and tapping some buttons. "You'll have to wait a few minutes."
"That's Fine." Roman smiled him and Virgil both stepping to the side. He leaned back against a short wall normally there to help form a line when the shop was busy.
Virgil stood quietly beside him looking down at the tiled floor.
"Woah," Roman suddenly whispered grabbing Virgil's hand.
"Hey! What're you-?" He was cut off by the other male pulling him behind the wall and down with him.
"Shh!" Roman exclaimed letting go once they where hidden. He then carefully poked his head up and pointed. "Look over there."
Virgil's blush faded and he subtly looked over as well. "Is that..?
"Logan and Patton." Roman nodded. "Do you think they're on a date?"
"Not necessarily, they could just be hanging out as friends," Virgil stated.
The two boys watched as Logan offered Patton whatever he was eating before leaning over and feeding it to him.
"That doesn't seem friendly." Roman raised a brow.
"Well... to Logan it could be I guess..." Virgil shrugged.
Roman gave him a sideways glance. "Does he... ever do that with you?"
Virgil looked at him. "No!" he whisper yelled defensively. "He's never fed me before!" He then looked back to the scene. "I see your point, but if it was a date I'm sure they would have told us right?"
Roman shrugged. "Maybe."
"Excuse me?"
The two jumped slightly as the sweet voice of the barista interrupted their minor stalking.
"Your order's ready." She smiled pointing to the counter.
"Right," Roman replied getting up and brushing himself off.
He and Virgil then followed her to pay for their purchase.
-&-
"See you later guys." Erin waved as she and Jamie left after practice. "Remember we're all going to the dance together! Yearly tradition!"
"Okay, Bye," Roman and Virgil stated in unison after them.
"Jesus, it's cold." Virgil shivered as they stood in front of the school.
"I'll drive you home." Roman offered walking towards his car.
Normally Virgil would try to deny, but right now it was way too cold and he just wanted to get inside, so he followed him and got in the passengers seat. He then blinked a few times looking out the windshield. "It's snowing."
Roman, who had just started the car and put in the heat looked up. "Would you look at that. First snow of the season."
"Ugh great..." Vigil muttered.
"Do you really hate snow?" Roman asked.
"I like the snow, hate the cold," Virgil stated rubbing his arms up and down with his hands.
"Are you that cold?" Roman chuckled in amusement. He then leaned forward in his seat, removed his letterman jacket, and reached over to lay it across the other male's torso.
Virgil widened his eyes in surprise feeling a slight blush dust his cheeks. "W-won't you be cold?"
"I'm fine," Roman replied fastening his seatbelt.
Virgil growled slightly to himself, pulling the jacket around him and looking out the window to hide his blush.
-&-
Roman parked on the street in front of Virgil's house. "We're here," He stated casually. "Virgil?" He looked over at the male to see his head was resting between the edge of the seat and the window and his eyes were closed. His breathing was slow and soft, and his chin was tucked in under the jacket slightly along with his knees, which he had pulled up onto the seat with the rest of him.
All in all it looked like he tried to tuck as much of himself under the jacket as he could, and then fell asleep.
Roman chuckled at the sight of the sleeping boy, not really having the heart to wake him up right away.
Virgil couldn't help but fall asleep, despite the short ride, he was warm and he could smell the familiar sent of Roman wrapped around him.
"Virgil," the princely character addressed quietly after a few moments. "Hey Virgil." He placed a hand on his shoulder shaking him lightly. "Wake up."
Virgil's eyes slowly blinked awake. He looked at Roman and then sat up suddenly. "Sorry I didn't mean to fall asleep."
Roman laughed lightly, Virgil taking notice of how cute it was.
"It's fine." The taller assured him. "We're at your house though. I'll walk you up to the doo-"
"No!" Virgil suddenly exclaimed. He then felt his cheeks warm immensely and started speaking quickly out of nervousness. "I mean no that's fine! Thanks for the ride I'll see you Monday." He started to reach for the door handle.
"Virgil," Roman stated reaching around to grab the handle of the passengers side door before he could, making it impossible for Virgil to open it. He looked at the other male closely.
Virgil was desperately trying to control his blush, but his heart was beating so fast due to their closeness. He felt Roman's shoulder rub against his arm slightly, and did everything in his power not to turn his gaze to meet the other's face which was less than an inch in front of him. Virgil could feel the warmth of his breath on his cheek as he chuckled.
"I'm gonna need my jacket back." Roman removed his hand from the door, leaned back a little, and pointed at the item of clothing. The whole time he was wearing that classic smug smile of his.
"Right!" Virgil's voice squeaked as he pushed the jacket back into Roman's chest. "Sorrygoodbye." He then quickly opened the door grabbed his bag and stepped out of the car. He could feel Roman's stare on him as he walked all the way up the pathway to the front door, but tried to focus on getting inside as quick as possible. Once there he heard Roman drive off and heaved a sigh of relief. Dear God I think I just died... he thought to himself.
"You're back!" A voice chirped making him jump slightly. "I was just about to call and see if you needed a ride. Was that Roman who drove you?"
"Yes Mom." Virgil replied removing his shoes and tossing his bag to the side.
"Mhm, and when exactly are you inviting him over for dinner?" She asked placing a hand on her hip.
"Wha-?" Virgil blushed lightly surprised at his mother's words. "You were serious about that??"
"You bet I was!" She said, her voice determined. "I want to meet the nice boy you're in this play with."
"Ugh." Virgil buried his head in his hands for a moment before heaving a sigh of defeat. "Fine! I'll see what I can do."
"Oh yay!" his mother exclaimed gleefully. "I'm so excited!"
-&-
That next Saturday Roman was at the winter dance with the rest of the drama kids, all but Virgil. They had decided to split up and go looking for him, and Roman had just finished talking to Patton, so he decided to regroup with everyone as a slow song started playing.
"Anyone seen him?" He asked the group as he approached.
"No." Erin and Jamie both frowned.
"He wasn't in the bathroom either." Aaron stated.
"Or in the locker room." Charlie added.
"Has anyone been able to get through to his phone?" Roman asked.
"I'm afraid not." Amanda stated. "Should we be worried? I mean it is Virgil so I wouldn't be surprised if he just decided not to come, but you'd think he'd pick up the phone at least."
"I don't know..." Roman trailed of. "You guys just try and have fun. I'll check the hall, and then be back."
"Alright." Erin nodded.
"Good luck man." Charlie pat his shoulder and the group went back to the dance floor.
Roman left the gymnasium deciding to turn right and walk down the fairly dark hallway. The farther he went he began to hear a few voices around the corner, so he continued on his venture, quickening his step a bit as an odd feeling took over him.
"...pathetic freak."
Roman began to pick up a few words.
"No one cares, just put him out of his misery."
There were some laughs.
Roman turned the corner and stopped to see a group of five boys surrounding something. It was difficult to see clearly but the dim lighting of a window a little ways down the hall revealed they were a few of the soccer players of the school. They were all in suits, so he assumed they had been attending the dance.
"Look at him sniveling and twitching, honestly something has to be seriously wrong with him," One stated making a face of disgust.
"Did you see him the other day when he left class, he looked batshit crazy." Another sneered. "He should be locked up in a mental facility."
"That scared over a tiny presentation. Pathetic!" A third snickered.
It was then that Roman's eyes had adjusted to the light well enough to see that what his peers were surrounding was Virgil himself, one of the guys had him pinned against the wall.
"Maybe," said jock who was holding Virgil tightly against the wall spoke. "I should teach him a lesson. Then he'd really have something to be afraid of."
Roman felt anger spark in him and approached the group. "Hey! Get away from him."
"Shit!" Two of the boys, probably fearing he was a teacher or chaperone ran the other direction quickly.
"Well if it isn't Roman himself." One of the remaining three smirked crossing his arms.
Who Roman assumed to be the ringleader didn't let virgil go but added. "As far as I'm concerned you and this emo freak have never gotten along before, so really this isn't any of your business."
"Yeah!" One of his lackeys agreed. "You two have be arguing nonstop since elementary school. You should be paying us to beat this kid up."
"I should kill you for even touching him." Roman gritted through his teeth, trying to sound as composed as possible.
Virgil was surprised, he'd never seen Roman so angry before, even with all their arguments.
The main jock, obviously not taking him seriously laughed. "Woah~ how interesting. Has being forced to be leads in the play stopped you from absolutely loathing each other?"
Roman ignored the question. "Let him go."
"I don't think I will." He sneered confidently.
Roman then snapped a bit ripping him away from Virgil. He shoved the jock against the lockers parallel to them. "You do not want to piss me off anymore than I already am!"
The boy looked really shocked, "Jesus man! I'm sorry!"
Roman growled letting him go and shoving him away from him. "Get the hell out of my sight."
He and the two guys with him ran in the opposite direction.
Roman turned to the small boy, who had sunk to the ground, and walked back over to him. "Virgil, are you okay?"
He didn't respond he just sat against the wall with his head down and rubbed his arms.
Roman kneeled down to him noticing he was shaking. He frowned. "Are you hurt?" He asked him gently.
Virgil looked up at him, revealing the tears on his face, and shook his head no.
"Hey..." Roman took the boy's hand, and dried some of his tears with his other. "It's gonna be okay. Come on try to get up." He helped him to his feet. "Lets go meet up with the others okay?" He still hadn't let go of his hand, and started to turn to walk in that direction.
"But-" Virgil debated quickly finally bringing himself to speak. "Wh-what if they went back in there." He wiped the remaining tears from his face.
Roman smiled at him. "You don't have to worry. You're with your friends." He started to walk away.
Before he could however Virgil tightened his grip to stop him. "Roman..."
"What's wro-" the princely figure was cut off by Virgil suddenly wrapping his arms around his middle.
"Thank you," he whispered.
"No problem," Roman smiled again as they pulled apart. "Come on." He gently led him back down the hall and into the gymnasium.
"Virgil!" The drama group all greeted happily over the loud music.
"There you are man, we were worried!" Aaron smiled.
"Sorry I'm late," Virgil replied.
"Everyone's here now so let's dance!" Erin shouted as the rest chanted in agreement.
"I don't know how to dance." Virgil told Roman.
"Pft, neither do we, or half the people here!" Roman laughed.
"I-I'll embarrass myself," Virgil replied looking around.
Roman shook his head before taking both of the other male's hands and pulling him back and forth gently to the beat of the poppy song.
Virgil bit back a smile. He knew Roman was only trying to cheer him up, so he amused him a bit and swayed a little faster.
"See this isn't so bad," Roman stated spinning his dance partner around.
"I guess." Virgil sighed trying not to seem overly happy.
But Roman could obviously see through the act...
-&-
Virgil stepped out of Roman's car after the dance walking around to join said male who was standing by the driver's door spinning his keys in his hand.
"Thanks, for the ride, and the rest of the night." He stated.
"No problem." Roman smiled at him.
There was a short silence before Virgil broke it. "Hey... whenever we get a break from rehearsals, would you maybe wanna come over for dinner next week?"
Roman raised a brow at him. "You're inviting me to dinner?"
"My mom wants to meet you," Virgil stated.
Roman smirked at him. "You told your mom about me?"
"No!" Virgil snapped defensively. "I told her about the play. Plus she has seen you drop me off."
"Is she watching now?" Roman looked around skeptically.
"It's highly possible." Virgil sighed.
Roman chuckled. "I'd love to come over for dinner."
"Okay..." Virgil nodded looking down.
Roman gently clapped his shoulder. "See you later Virgil." He smiled at him one last time before getting into his car again.
"Bye." He replied simply watching him drive off. He then turned around and walked into his house.
His mother popped out of the living room. "Ooh~ I haven't seen you smile like that in a while. Did you have fun?"
"Yeah..." Virgil stated starting up the stairs. "I did."
