~Part 20~

Roman yawned and stretched dramatically as he sat in his first period class. It was a work day and he had practically everything done so he wasn't doing much. "I hate Mondays..."

"Awe." Patton smiled at him. He seemed happy that morning. I mean he always seemed happy, but today Roman could tell it was a bit more genuine. "I don't mind them."

"Mm, Yeah well is that because you get to see a certain someone?" The princely figure asked teasingly raising an eyebrow at him.

Patton looked away from his work and to him a light blush dusting his cheeks. "What? What do you mean?"

"You know what I mean Patton." He chuckled.

He looked away again his blush darkening. "Is it that obvious?"

"Well... from a normal standpoint, I'm not sure, but I'd like to think I know you pretty well." Roman replied.

"Well... it doesn't matter anyway." Patton replied. "Logan and I are just friends, and he wants it that way."

Roman frowned a little. He wanted to tell him that wasn't quite true, but remembered the promise he had made to Logan that he wouldn't. He didn't know what was holding Logan back, but could tell it was obviously something major. He just hoped Logan could deal with it so both he and Patton could be happier. To be fair Roman couldn't really talk when it came to the subject of having feelings for someone..."You never know Patton." He tried to seem encouraging. "People's feelings for each other can change a lot over time..."

"Thanks so much you guys." Mrs. Chance smiled at Roman and Patton as they had just finished moving prop boxes into the theater.

"You're welcome." They chimed together.

"Okay get to class now, I'll see you this afternoon Roman." Mrs Chance said shooing them playfully.

"Okay bye!" Roman laughed with Patton as they walked out of the theater. They then fell into step together down the hall. "Thanks Patton I hope I didn't keep you out of class too long."

"That's alright." Patton stated. "I have study hall anyways."

"Hm... isn't that new kid in your study hall?" Roman asked trying to seem casual.

"Ashton?" Patton asked.

"Yeah that's the one." Roman replied. "You two seem to be getting along."

"Yes, he's a good friend. He isn't here today though..." Patton trailed off.

"Why, is he sick?" Roman asked.

"I don't know..." Patton looked worried. "He didn't answer my texts."

Roman felt bad he hated seeing Patton's good mood faulted for anything. "Don't worry buddy." He pat his shoulder lightly. "I'm sure he's fine."

"Yeah you're probably right." Patton smiled again. "Anyway I gotta go." Patton stopped in front of his study hall room. "See you later Roman."

"Bye Patton." Roman waved before breaking off into his own direction. A good friend huh..? Roman thought. Well now I know Patton really doesn't have feelings for Ashton, he wouldn't have said that so genuinely if he did, but that doesn't mean Logan will believe it. He chuckled to himself. Oh well...

He suddenly came to a halt when someone ran out of a classroom he was passing, and almost straight into him. "Virgil?!" He was too surprised to be angry.

Virgil's eyes were wide, and his breathing was heavy. He looked at Roman before pushing past him and running into the boy's locker room.

Roman could tell right away something was off. "Hey!"

"Virgil wait!" The teacher popped her head out, but sighed when she saw him retreat to the boy's locker room.

"I got him." Roman assured her before following the male. "Virgil?" Roman called stepping into the cold locker room. He stepped around the set of lockers residing in the middle of the practically empty room to see Virgil huddled up on the other side.

The boy had his arms around himself tightly, and was shaking tremendously. His breathing was dangerously fast, and he seemed to be struggling to get the proper amount of air he needed. His eyes were squeezed shut like he was trying to block everything out.

"Virgil?" Roman quickly kneeled down to him. "What's wrong?"

Virgil opened his eyes seeming startled. "R-Roman? Wh-why did you follow me? G-go away." He could hardly speak.

"And leave you like this?" Roman asked feeling his heart drop a little. "I don't think so. What's wrong?"

"Wh-what? A-are you s-so perfect y-you've never seen a p-p-panic attack before?" He tried to seem spiteful, but couldn't through the rough breathing.

"No... no I haven't." Roman replied. "But it's okay, just calm down."

"D-don't you think I would if I could!" Virgil snapped violently before sucking in a sharp breath and turning away. Tears were forming in his eyes now, which just seemed to make his hyperventilation worse. His grip tightened around himself. "Oh god..."

"Okay okay, that was dumb to say..." Roman moved to sit down next to him. "I'm sorry. It's okay. Try to calm down, just breathe. Try to tell me what's wrong."

"Wh-what's wrong is we have to present in front of class and when it was my turn I r-ran out!" Virgil struggled with the sentence.

"It's alright." Roman spoke calmly.

"N-no it's not!" Virgil yelled the tears finally breaking free and messily streaming down his face. "N-now everyone thinks I'm even more of a f-freak!" The small sobs only made everything worse.

"No one thinks you're a freak." Roman told him softly.

"You don't know that!" Virgil yelled at him again.

Roman couldn't help but be a little hurt. He knew Virgil was just lashing out, but it still hurt.

"You don't know, and you can't understand that because you're perfect! You always get the lead in the school play every year, and are open and charismatic with everyone! Everyone loves you! You get to be all confident and flirty, and things always work out for you! As if you don't have a care in the world! You re best friends with one of the most popular, and the nicest, people in school! And you have everyone in the AV club, the arts department, the choirs and bands, not to mention everyone who had anything to do with the play! You have friends!" Virgil went off on a tangent breathing sharply between each of his points.

"You have friends too Virgil." Roman said in a soft, but sad tone. His heart was actually aching, and he almost felt the need to cry himself.

"I have a friend. Friend. Singular. Logan, that's it." Virgil corrected.

"And Erin, Jamie, Patton, Aaron, Charlie, and anyone who had anything to do with the play." Roman listed. "And that includes me..."

Virgil managed to catch a deep breath. "You hate me..."

No I don't Virgil... quite the opposite actually... Roman thought but couldn't actually bring himself to say it. "Hate is a strong word." He replied instead with a smile.

Virgil was still for only a moment before his breathing and shaking started up again. "Th-that doesn't change anyone else's opinion."

"Virgil-" Roman started before he was cut off.

"Talk!" He ordered. "Talk to me."

"I am talking to you." Roman replied in confusion.

"Yeah But not about any of that. Talk about sports, or something stupid, I don't care. Just distract me." Virgil replied as he continued failing at calming himself down.

"Um okay..." Roman scooted a little closer so he could hear him better. "Hm... Onetime, when me and Patton were younger, we wandered off into the woods behind our houses. It was fall, and we wanted to go deep into the trees to find some pretty leaves we couldn't get in his backyard alone. So we kept walking. We found this creek and started hopping along until suddenly... we didn't know where we were anymore... I had tried to jump on a rock and slipped because of the mud on my shoes and fell into the water. Patton panicked, but I was fine. It still didn't help the fact that we were lost though. Patton was crying, and I told him everything was gonna be alright."

Roman froze when he suddenly felt Virgil lean into him. He had his head against his chest and was taking slow deep breaths. "It helps... to feel the vibrations... when you talk." The smaller explained.

Roman smiled wrapping an arm around him, and pulling him a little closer. He couldn't help but take his opportunity...

Virgil was surprised by this action, and even though he was slowly calming he felt his heart beat speed up a bit. He sniffled and nuzzled his face in his chest more to hide his warm cheeks.

"I was just as terrified, plus wet and cold..." Roman continued with the story. "But I stayed calm, for Patton. Eventually his mother found us. She was more worried then I'd ever seen her. I was sent home and as soon as I got into my room I started balling. So yeah I guess I always do act like I don't have a care in the world, but I mostly do it for others. It helps to have a calm entity when things get a little crazy. I still feel fear, and doubt, I get nervous and self confident, and I'm most certainly not perfect."

"B-but how do you stay so calm, and... joyful all the time..?" Virgil asked finally breathing normally again.

"I honestly couldn't tell you." Roman replied. "I guess I really am a great actor."

Virgil sniffled again and sat up, pulling away from Roman slightly, but still didn't meet his eyes. "Thanks for trying to calm me down Roman... I'm sorry I yelled at you."

"That's okay..." Roman reached up to wipe away a few stray tears from Virgil's cheek with his thumb.

This caused Virgil to finally look up and meet Roman's eyes. He watched him for a moment when he noticed him looking at him in a way he didn't quite understand.

Roman looked back at him feeling like he was lost in his eyes. He let himself look to Virgil's lips before he flicked them back up as he noticed what he was doing.

The bell rang snapping both males away from whatever just came over them.

Roman cleared his throat and stood helping Virgil up with him. "We should get to class now..."

"Yeah..." Virgil replied quietly.

Roman let him go and turned to walk away, and hide the light blush dusting his cheeks.

Virgil followed him out.

Roman stopped just outside the locker room."See you at practice!" He said quickly before walking off fast into the crowd of passing students.

Roman, Virgil, Jamie and Erin were sitting at their usual table at Warm & Cozy coffee shop with their usual drink orders.

"Roomaan~" Erin waved a hand in front of his face, and leaning over the table. "Earth to Roman."

"Huh?" Roman replied jolting out of his train of though. "I'm sorry... did you say something?"

"I said you seem kinda spaced out today." Erin replied siting back into her seat properly with a slightly concerned expression. "Is something wrong?"

"What? No." Roman laughed quietly. "Just... lost in thought I guess."

Virgil was watching him curiously now. When the princely figure looked over to him, he looked away again and took a sip of his drink.

Roman suddenly let out a laugh seemingly directed at his costar.

"What's your problem?" Virgil asked him.

"Might wanna wipe your upper lip Hot Topic." He chucked in response handing him a napkin. "You've got a major foam mustache."

Erin giggled as well, and even Jamie smiled in amusement.

Virgil snatched it out of Roman's hand feeling a light blush dust his cheeks. He then wiped his lip. "There. Are you satisfied now?"

"You missed a bit." Roman smiled smugly at him.

He's actually enjoying seeing me embarrassed. Stupid Prince! Virgil thought before gliding the napkin across his upper lip again and trying to keep his blush from growing.

Roman shook his head with a slight sigh, but the smile still on his face. "Here." He took the napkin from the other boy's hand, leaned closer to him in the booth, and gently wiped the area he had missed.

Virgil felt his face burn even warmer as he suddenly found himself really close to his new found crush with nothing else to look at but his face. His smooth... stupidly handsome face. Virgil thought, automatically regretting it. Oh my God shut up Virgil... you sound like a fifteen year old girl in a cheesy teen romance novel...

"There you go you loser." Roman nudged him gently before leaning back and siping the straw in his own drink, the whole time he was still watching Virgil with that stupid smug smile.

Is he trying to be seductive, because he needs to stop! Virgil panicked internally, looking away. Another voice then chinked in his mind. Why? Cause it's working? Virgil closed his eyes and shook his head slightly. Shut up! No it's not! He then pushed his drink away, folded his arms across the table space in front of him, and hid his face in them with an almost silent growl of embarrassment. Why the hell am I having an argument with myself..? Over Roman of all things. I really am a freak.

Meanwhile the two girls across the table had watched the whole scene with slightly wider eyes. They looked to each other afterwards, communicating entirely with shrugs and smiles, before going back to casual conversation.

Roman pulled up to Virgil's house and got put to open the door for the other male like he always did.

This time, however, Virgil had a hand offered to him.

"In case you decide to trip again." Roman explained smiling down at him.

Virgil took it slowly and allowed him to help him safely out of the vehicle. He felt like electricity sparked through his veins at the contact.

Roman held onto his hand for a bit after before slowly sliding it away. "I'll see you tomorrow." He said quietly before getting back into the driver's seat.

Virgil watched him drive off two thoughts, crossing his mind.

One: How much of a moron Roman was.
And two: How he hope his mom hadn't been watching from the window like she usually did...
