~Part 12~

Virgil walked off the stage after play practice that Wednesday as Erin shouted out to everyone. "Okay everyone short practice today cause of the sporting events going on, good job! Time is ticking and the play will be here before you know it, so for those of you with bigger parts and more lines, you may want to practice a bit on your own time, other then that you're free to go!"

Virgil started to leave when Roman jogged up behind him. "Hey you wanna run some lines together?"

"When?" Virgil sighed automatically annoyed by his presence.

"Now, duh." Roman rolled his eyes. "You aren't doing anything are you?"

"No, but what makes you think I'd want to spend my free afternoon with you?" Virgil replied harshly.

Roman just scoffed. "Look I'm not ecstatic about it either, but you heard Erin, we have a lot of lines to memorize. Practicing would benefit us both."

Virgil glared at him, but then let out a breath in defeat. "Fine, But we're doing it at your house."

"Works for me." Roman shrugged as Virgil followed him to his car.

Virgil felt awkward walking into Roman's house. He wasn't one to really go anywhere besides his house, school, and Logan's every once in a blue moon.

"Just make yourself comfortable I'll be down in minute." Roman stated throwing his bag on an armchair in the living room and quickly going up stairs.

Virgil gently placed his bag on the floor by his feet and sat down on the couch looking around at the large home.

Before he knew it Roman was coming back down the stairs, jumping over the last few steps. He'd changed into more casual clothes and Virgil found it strange looking, so ended up staring.

"So I was thinking we could so some warmups and then do scene- what?" Roman asked noticing him watching him.

"Nothing." Virgil replied looking away quickly. "What kind of warmup do you want to do?"

"How about the alphabet game." Roman suggested. "Except you cant just say random words and phrases we have to make a conversation out of it."

"Whatever. You go first." Virgil replied.

Prince cleared his throat. "As if I'd loose this game to you."

"Better check that confidence." Virgil rebuked.

"Confidence is key." Roman pointed out

"Don't get cocky"

"Even if I didn't I'd still win."

"Fear is evident in your voice."

"Get real."

"Hold on."

"I don't understand, why?"

"Just to annoy you."

"Kidding around won't work."

"Losing isn't an option."

"Maybe it should be for you."

"Never."

"Optimistic aren't we?"

"Possibly."

"Quite so, I believe."

"Really, then you don't know me."

"Surely I do."

"Test it."

"Unlikely."

"Very interesting."

"What is?"

"Xylophone construction."

"You're ridiculous."

"Zebras are not blue."

"Are you trying to be funny?"

"Basically."

"Can I find a way to distract you?"

"Doubt it."

"Eventually I will."

"False."

"Get ready."

"Hey, I was born ready."

"I can do it."

"Just get on with it then."

Prince let a smirk stretch at his lips, and leaned in closer. "Kiss me."

"WHAT?!" The emo boy's pale faced skin flushed over with a crimson color.

"Ha! You lose the next letter was L not W. Told you I'd win." Prince gloated.

"Th-that was a dirty trick!!!" Virgil snapped.

"No, you're just a sore loser." Sass laced the princely characters voice.

"I am not!" Virgil debated.

"Are too." Roman scoffed.

"What are you five?" Virgil questioned in annoyance.

"No, you started it." Roman pointed out.

"I did not." Virgil narrowed his eyes at the other male.

"Did too." Roman said arrogantly.

"UGH! Whatever! Just start running the damn lines!" Virgil shouted shoving Roman's script at his chest and into his arms.

Roman bit back a chuckle and flipped the large booklet open. "Okay scene 70, we've hardly practiced it. Here." He placed the tissue box on the coffee table. "That's the fire, the couch is the log, we're sitting together." He scooted a little loser.

"Okay..." Virgil trailed off going quiet again. "It's your line."

Roman cleared his throat, and then poked the 'fire' with an invisible stick. "So you were really scared to go to the royal city huh? Seems kind of ironic considering people usually have the impression it's the safest place in the kingdom right now."

"For some people I suppose it is..." Virgil trailed off getting into character.

"What do you mean some people?" Roman asked looking to him.

"Humans. It's a safe place for humans. Not only to be protected from rebels and enemy military, but from us, from me." Virgil shook his head.

"You? Why would-" Roman started before being cut off.

"Because I'm a warlock, I've explained this already. Warlocks, fairy's, the wolves, vampires it all the same! Humans are afraid of us. Do you know why the population of the royal city is 98% human? Why it's so hard for someone like me to even get in there? It's because humans are scared. They hate us. All of them hate all of us."

"That isn't true." Roman said quickly. "Besides what about the laws passed the ones ordering equal treatment of all intelligent species."

"Tch laws?" Virgil chuckled sarcastically. "What good are laws if they aren't enforced or acted upon. Just because you put something on paper to lower the tensions a bit doesn't mean people are just gonna change. Yes there are laws against killing us, but that doesn't stop the slaughtering of my people. Especially when the royal council decides to turn a blind eye. Why do you think there are so few of us now a days?"

"That's why your going to the Royal City to talk with the king..." Roman looked to him with a solemn expression.

Virgil nodded letting his eyes wander to the fire. "I know it most likely won't change anything, but if I can do anything to prevent the killing of my people I have to do it. I have to at least try to convince the king to stop this senseless violence. So many loved ones have been lost friends, lovers, family, my parents..."

"Eliphas..." Roman trailed off taking Virgil's hand as the script said to do.

Virgil stiffened slightly looking to their hands before relaxing. "What's the point... even if the endless slaughter stops we'll never be treated the same. People will always hate us..."

"That isn't true, with some time-" Roman started.

"Time isn't enough. Just look at the way you reacted when you first met me, and that's one of the better first impressions I've had..." Virgil shook his head. "People aren't going to change."

"I did." Roman pointed out. "I will admit my past opinions on your people weren't great. Don't get me wrong I'd never wish you dead! But I admit a lack of respect was there, and I apologize. Ive learned things, things I never would have even guessed if I hadn't had this journey with you." He smiled at him.

"You're just saying that because you feel guilty." Virgil frowned. "You don't really mean it."

Roman gently placed a hand to his cheek. "No... I mean it."

"How am I possibly supposed to believe that?" Virgil asked shaking his head.

"Do you want me to prove it?" Roman whispered leaning in closer.

Virgil's (the real Virgil) heart started beating quickly as he followed the script and nodded.

Roman stopped watching Virgil's eyes before pulling away from him and clearing his throat. "Y-yeah and then we kiss, end scene, good job. Moving on." He clumsily started flipping the pages of his script almost dropping it in the process.

Virgil felt his cheeks redden and looked away as well not really knowing what to say but. "O-okay."

-&-

Roman drove Virgil home afterwards, and when he parked outside of his house he got out and opened the car door for his classmate.

Virgil gave him a strange look. "Thanks..." he replied getting out of the car.

Roman closed it behind him. "You're welcome."

Virgil then tripped over the curb and had a mini heart attack as he saw the paved ground suddenly hurdling closer. But luckily he felt two arms catch him securely.

"Idiot, watch your step." Roman growled, but had a hint of worry in his voice. "You could have cracked your head open."

Virgil looked up to be face to face with the other male, well he would have been if he wasn't so much shorter. There was a pause. "Umm..." Virgil trailed off after a while. His heart was still beating and he found himself making the excuse that it was just because of his near death experience. "You can... let me go now."

"Right! Sorry." Roman replied retracting his arms.

Virgil swore he saw his cheeks tint a light pink.

"I'll um... see you tomorrow." Roman said quickly getting into his car.

Virgil watched as he drove away and then walked up the driveway into his house trying to shake off the new strange feeling.

"Hi honey welcome home." His mother chirped popping out of the living room.

"Hey Mom." Virgil greeted casually hanging his school bag on the hook by the door.

She acted innocent as she shimmied over to him with a smile. "Who was that who drove you home?"

"Roman." Virgil replied.

"That boy you always argue with?" She questioned with a tilt of her head.

"Yup, I was running lines at his house so..." Virgil replied slipping his shoes off and starting to walk past her.

"He's cute." She pointed out casually.

Virgil felt his cheeks warm and turned around quickly to face her. "Mother!"

"What?" She asked amongst a laugh and shrugged. "I'm just saying. No need to get defensive."

"I'm not getting defensive!" Virgil replied.

"You never know he might like you." She pointed out.

"That's ridiculous! W-we aren't even friends! Just costars in the play, and like you said we argue all the time!" Virgil listed desperately. He felt like he could die of embarrassment.

"Sometimes that a sign. A way to cover up someone's true feelings perhaps~." She smiled wiggling her finger in his direction.

"Your crazy, there's nothing between us." He huffed stuffing his hands in his hoodie pocket.

She put her hands up in surrender. "Alright. Still... you should invite him over for dinner sometime, if he's doing this play with you I'd love to meet him."

"Ugh!" Virgil complained turning back around on his heels. "I'm going to my room, call me when dinners ready." He then left his giggling mother downstairs.

Hey guys, ha Virgil's mom... I hope you liked the new part. They are so obviously in love XD. Tell me how you think I'm doing with their plot line. Vote and comment, bye!
