Part 10

Patton sat in the kitchen at the stool on the island. His mother was making coffee for herself and his father was finishing some last minute work. He was told to wait there so they could have a talk when he was finished.

His mom stood by the coffee pot as it brewed. "How was this festival you went to last night?" She asked casually.

Patton thought about how much fun it was, but automatically lost that sense of joy when remembering what happened in the car. "Fine..."

She gave him a look of really believing the answer. She was obviously straining to talk about the subject. "Did something happen?"

"Nope..." Patton shook his head slowly.

She opened her mouth to speak again, but was interrupted when his father came into the room.

"Patton, I assume you know I have something serious to talk to you about." His father sat down.

Patton grew nervous. "Am I in trouble?"

"Indeed you are." His father replied sounding slightly annoyed.

Patton flinched letting his shoulders drop. "Okay... why?"

"Why?" He asked. "I don't know Patton why would you think?"

"I-I don't know..." he glanced over to his mother who just frowned. She was no help...

"Because Patton your A dropped in government, you got a C on a major test, and you missed two days of school last week." He listed the reasons sounding more disappointed with each one.

"I was really sick, a-and it's not my fault Mrs. Bogs doesn't give enough notice before a test that's worth half our grade, not to mention she is totally unfair when it comes to grading..." Patton tried to explain not able to look his dad in the eyes.

"Don't blame the teacher for this!" His father raised his voice making his son jump again. "She does her job, it's up to you to do yours, besides excuses get you no where in life."

"It was just one test..." Patton trailed off holding back tears. He hated being yelled at. He honestly would prefer his father just ignoring him like he usually does. "I can bring my grade up, I'm sure she'll give me extra credit if I ask."

"You better. Now about missing two days. If you let that affect your grades I can't allow you to stay home, sick or not." He stated.

"I understand, but Lo- my friend told me to stay home... I think he was worried because I fainted at school..."

"You what?!" My mother suddenly exclaimed. "When? Why? Why didn't anyone tell me?"

"Not too long ago, because I was exhausted and malnourished, and they did call you, but you didn't answer." Patton held back the annoyed tone he wanted to use on the last reply not wanting to get into anymore trouble.

She had a hint of guilt on her face and looked to her husband for an answer.

He sighed and shook his head. "Kids these days..." he then looked to Patton. "So your telling me you not only can't take responsibility for your school work, but for your health as well?"

"What? No." Patton shook his head. Of course he'd blame me... what else? It's not like their lack of caring for me has any factor going into it right? "I-I Just cant do everything all the time." His voice was slightly desperate.

"That's part of being an adult Patton. Me and your mother do it everyday. We are in perfect health and we work all week to provide for ourselves. You need to lean to grow up. Your only a teenager if you can't make it now you won't be able to make it in the future. I will not have my son tarnishing our family name because he can't get his act together. I better see some improvements, or there will be consequences." His father then stood and left the room without another word.

Patton still sat there in the stool looking to the tiled floor.

His mother sighed, pouring herself some coffee. She then walked to the center of the kitchen. She looked to Patton, but decided against saying anything and simply left him to sit alone.

Patton wrapped his arms around himself and felt the warm tears finally roll down his face.

This was the worst weekend ever...

-&-

"WAIT. You're saying he KISSED you, and then just blew you off?!" Roman exclaimed as he sat next to Patton First period before class started. "What the hell?!"

"Shush, not so loud." Patton scolded him. "And yeah that's about all of it."

"And how is he acting now?" Roman asked.

"Well I saw him this morning and he acted... normal. Like nothing had happened." Patton replied.

"What the hell?" Roman repeated this time with a scoff.

"He did say he wanted to forget about it..." Patton trailed off looking down to his desk with a pathetic excuse for a smile. "I guess he meant it..."

"That's kind of a jerk move." Roman crossed his arms.

"Yeah, But you should have seen his face Roman... he looked miserable and kind of... scared? He couldn't even look at me." Patton explained.

Roman sighed putting a comforting arm around his friend. "Don't worry too much about it bud... there are plenty of fish in the sea."

"Yeah your right." Patton tried to sound like he agreed. But there's only one Logan...

-&-

"Your asking for extra credit?" Mrs Boggs raised a brow at Patton.

"Yes." He nodded.

"Why?" She asked. "You have one of the best grades in my class."

"Yes, But it's not an A." Patton replied.

"So you're asking me to have to give and grade extra work so you can raise your percentage by a few points?" She looked annoyed

"Yes, please, my dad will kill me." He said desperately.

She looked at him, and as a very rare occurrence, felt kind of bad. "Fine... But it won't be an easy assignment."

"That's okay." Patton sighed in relief.

-&-

Patton walked into the lunch room and looked around. Once getting his food he almost instinctively went to the library but stopped himself. Logan probably didn't even want him there. He sat down at an empty table, sighing and placing his chin in the palm of his hand. He used his spork to push his food around on his plate, he'd lost his appetite.

-&-

Meanwhile Logan sat at his usual seat in the library and sighed putting his book down.

He looked to the empty seat where Patton would normal sit and felt a tug at something inside of him.

Everything felt weird without him there...

-&-

Before Patton knew it he felt two figures sit down on either side of him at his lunch table.

He looked curiously to his right to see Virgil, and to his left sat Roman.

Roman glared across him at Virgil. "Oh great why are you here?"

Virgil rolled his eyes. "I saw Patton sitting alone and thought I'd be nice. Got a problem with that Princey?"

Roman scoffed a little laugh. "You being nice? Ha that's a laugh."

Patton laughed a little. "Guys. Aren't you forgetting that you both had the same goal here?" He said gesturing to himself.

"Right... to cheer you up." Roman replied dropping his rivalry for at least the moment.

"I don't need cheering up okay?" Patton replied. "I'll get over it."

"Lying about whatever it is won't help." Virgil stated.

"As much as I hate to say it, he's right." Roman frowned. "You can't just-"

"Patton..." a voice interrupted him.

They all turned to see Logan standing there behind them.

Patton was surprised. "L-Logan..?"

The nerd looked at the three of them before speaking. "Can I talk to you."

Roman huffed. "I think it's more a question of if you should."

"Roman. It's okay..." Patton flashed him a smile before getting up and following Logan into the hall.

Logan shuffled awkwardly not looking at Patton as he spoke. "I want to begin by apologizing. I didn't mean to make you angry or upset with me..."

"I'm not angry." Patton stated quietly.

Logan seemed surprised and met his eyes again. "You aren't?"

Patton slowly shook his head no.

"Well my car door says differently." Logan rubbed the back of his neck.

Patton gave a small laugh covering his mouth gently. "Oh my god I'm sorry." He said but still couldn't help but find humor in the situation. "Did I damage it?"

"Only minorly." Logan sighed. "Don't worry it's easily fixable, and I kind of deserved it anyway..."

"Oops." Patton cringed slightly.

"Anyway back to what I was trying to say." Logan cleared his throat. "I apologize if I made things awkward, but I want to stress the importance of the fact that I didn't want to dismiss you completely as a friend. In fact it would give me much satisfaction if we could keep the relationship we've had thus far..."

Patton felt himself smiling still. Sure he still liked Logan, but he'd rather be friends then lose him completely. Besides... who's to say he couldn't eventually win his heart? "I'd like that." He nodded.

"Are you quite sure?" Logan asked raising a brow at him.

"Yep!" Patton chirped.

"Very well, I'll drive you home so we can get more work done this afternoon." He started walking away. "Oh and Patton... do make sure you eat." He smiled before going back to the library.

Patton smiled feeling his heart skip a beat again.

Hey guys, I hope you liked this part. They're making slow progress... What do you think of the chapter? What about Patton's parents? Vote and comment, bye!
