forty three
After hearing those words, Taehyung turned to his mother right away and gasped. "Really? Is she really?" He asked as he stood up and looked at his mom who had tears in her eyes. "The doctor told us this morning, though we knew for awhile now." she pursed her lips. "I'm sorry I didn't tell you right away-" She spoke.
Taehyung shook his head and went over, hugging his mom. "I don't care, I don't care about that oh my god, she is cancer free.. she-" Taehyung sniffled and they both hugged while TayJa got up and ran over to Serenity. "We get to go see pinky?" She asked. Serenity nodded. "When mommy takes me out of the hospital and I get stronger, we can go see pinky!" she giggled along with TayJa who was on the bed and hugging Serenity. With that, Taehyung opened his red puffy eyes and looked at Jungkook who was watching the two younger ones.
Suddenly the sadness within him just... numbed? and all he felt was regret. Although he was beyond happy for his sister, he couldn't help but look at Jungkook and feel like shit. Taehyung let go of his mom and walked over to Jungkook who was now focused on Taehyung. Taehyung smiled a bit and Jungkook did the same as he stood up, letting Taehyung latch onto him. "I'm so sorry.." Taehyung hiccuped and Jungkook wrapped his arms around Taehyung. "It's okay.. everything is okay Taehyung." He kissed Taehyung's forehead.
Taehyung held onto Jungkook's jacket and took in the scent he longed for. Jungkook rubbed Taehyung's back and stroked his hair with his free hand. The two stayed like that before Taehyung looked down at their daughter. This hug meant everything for the two. The warmth and comfort they both needed resided in this hug.
Jungkook pulled away and Taehyung was soon carrying Cheonsa in his arms. Taehyung looked at her with a smile before laughing a bit. "I'm a terrible parent." he sniffled and Jungkook shook his head. "Taehyung.. you were going through a hard time it's okay.. you're not a bad parent. What matters now is that you are here."
"Yeah.. I was going through a hard time.. but, Haneul wasn't just my son.. Jungkook he was yours and I know how much you wanted a son and how excited you were to do all these father and son things like football and such.. I'm sorry for shutting you down and i'm sorry for not protecting our son.." Taehyung looked at Cheonsa before looking at Jungkook with tears. He was just... so fucking sorry for everything he put everyone through.
Jungkook held back his tears as he nodded but shook his head. "Taehyung.. it wasn't your fault Haneul didn't make it.. Nothing is your fault, he was to precious for this world okay? There was nothing we could have done. I was excited for a son but i'll get my son when the time is right. Right now I have you three to love and care for. I love you so so much okay?" Jungkook brushed back Taehyung's hair.
Taehyung bit his lip and leaned into Jungkook's touch. "Brother? Is that your baby?" Serenity was heard and Taehyung took a deep breath before nodding and walking over. "Serenity, this is Cheonsa, your niece." He sat on the bed and pushed the toque up.
Taehyung let his finger caress Cheonsa's cheek and watched her gave a small smile before stretching in Taehyung's arms. Within the whole week, his heart felt warm and he felt happy. Taehyung looked at his little family and smiled. He really was the luckiest man in the world, even if thing went the total opposite of what he wanted, he still had three beautiful people there with him.
Taehyung did regret missing out on the first week but the first week was the hardest. It still didn't feel right being happy but he knew he had to be. For his family, his resting baby boy and for himself. It was just hard to get through.. but he knew he could do that. He had to live for his babies and for his family.
It was going to be hard for sure because... losing a child is one of the greatest pains anyone would ever have to go through. Because... who imagines burying their child before themselves? No matter the age, it would always be heartbreaking because you birthed that child. Had them grow inside of you for nine months but... he had to look on the brighter side of everything. Hanuel was in a better place.
Serenity was cancer free and his family was healthy. If anything that was all Taehyung could ask for. So starting then, Taehyung promised himself he would do everything in his power to love and care for his family for as long as he lived.
a year later.
Taehyung helped TayJa blow out the candles since Cheonsa couldn't exactly blow her own candles out, yet. "Let me see this birthday girl." Hanna smiled as she grabbed Cheonsa and gave her many, many kisses as she walked off. Taehyung chuckled before shaking his head and back hugging Jungkook who was cutting cake for the family.
Twelve months later and everything was still as perfect as they thought. Jungkook had a good paying job and was back in school, homeschooling actually but it was better than nothing. TayJa was in daycare and also she was such a great big sister. It took time to get used to the new addition but when Tayja did, she became such a good big sister.
Serenity was a healthy little girl once again, always with TayJa and if she wasn't, she was at school. Kindergarten. Serenity was kind of like TayJa's bodyguard and she couldn't wait for her to start school with her, even though it would be in a few years. Now one years old, Cheonsa learned how to crawl and her first words were sister. Well 'chee chee' was her first word but still, they counted it as sister even so.
As for Taehyung, he was loving the moments of being a mother. TayJa and Cheonsa were his joys in life. Also, the whole court thing with Jungkook and Jenah blew over after Jenah finally came to her senses and realized TayJa was better off with Jungkook. Though it took more than just a blow over.. Jungkook did get with Jenah and they did talk out some things. Jenah still wanted to take Tayja of course but Jungkook had to remind Jenah that parenthood is a big thing and she just wasn't made for that.
Jungkook didn't want to discourage Jenah though because honestly? Tayja needed her mom too and Jungkook didn't want to hold his daughter back from having the mom and daughter bond. That didn't mean he was just going to give Tayja over to Jenah though. Jenah still had a lot of growing up to do and she agreed, surprisingly. They did agree that Jenah could see TayJa on special occasions though. Other than that, TayJa stays with Jungkook and Jenah gets her freedom. It all worked out in the end of course and he was so happy not to have went to court because he really didn't want to go through that while also mourning his son.
May he add, Taehyung was also looking into nursing and Jungkook was also looking into business. Not CEO type but maybe a small restaurant, anything the won't make him stay in an office for the whole day and night and give him white hairs before he is even thirty. So if anyone asked, they were doing just fine.
Taehyung put the flowers on the grave and held Cheonsa in his arms. TayJa was busy making the grave pretty before running off. "Don't go to far princess." Jungkook called out as he sat next to the grave with Taehyung. The two holding hands as Taehyung leaned on Jungkook.
Before they could even speak, TayJa came running back giggling. "Dada! Mommy! look at that!" TayJa pointed and when Jungkook and Taehyung laid their eyes on the blue and black butterfly, they went a bit speechless. "Did you ever see that kind of butterfly?" Taehyung asked Jungkook.
Jungkook shook his head. "Never." he answered as he held his finger out and not even thinking that the butterfly would, it landed on his finger and Jungkook felt such a heartwarming feeling as he brought it closer. Taehyung looked at Jungkook. "Do you ever like to think.. Haneul is here with us whenever we come visit?" Taehyung suddenly asked since it was on his mind since forever but the butterfly made him want to know Jungkook's thoughts.
Jungkook looked at Taehyung before he slowly nodded. "Yeah, I do." he admitted with a sigh. A smile soon making its way onto Jungkook's lips. TayJa then patted the grave and the butterfly flew off Jungkook's finger and where TayJa patted. "Goodbye Hanny." She giggled as the butterfly walked over the lump of dirt that Tayja put down.
Both Taehyung and Jungkook were lost with the words they were about the say. After watching TayJa wave at the butterfly flying off, Jungkook gulped. "Baby, why did you say Haneul's name?" He asked. "That's Hanny! he's with great grandpa Kellen." TayJa went sit on Jungkook's lap with a huff. "K-Kellen?" Taehyung repeated and Jungkook felt tears form in his eyes. He took a shaky breath. "Kellen is.. my mom's dad.. he passed away when I was thirteen.." Jungkook bit his lip, confused on how Tayja would know that.
"How would she.." Taehyung looked at TayJa who was smiling while playing with the bracelet on her hand that Taehyung gave her a year back. "papa said Haneul is okay." she mumbled and Jungkook looked away with a sniff, holding back the cry he had and Taehyung side hugged Jungkook. His lip quivering as he then bit it and looked at Tayja with a loving smile. Caressing her back as he did so.
"dada- did I say something wrong?" TayJa asked and Jungkook shook his head. "No baby, you didn't." He smiled while kissing her forehead. Jungkook looked at Taehyung and chuckled. "He's okay.." he chuckled and Taehyung nodded, his eyes glossy. With that, the four stayed for another hour, just talking. Talking about anything they could really think about. Maybe even a little bit of talk about possibly trying for another baby? then again, it was a small talk.
"So, if I asked you to marry me right now, what would be your answer?" Jungkook raised an eyebrow and Taehyung look away from Cheonsa who was laughing with Taehyung who was making faces. The sudden change in topics made Taehyung shocked. Wondering where that suddenly came from but it made the moment more memorable.
Taehyung looked at Jungkook with shock. "W-What?" He asked, a small chuckle making its way through as Taehyung looked at Jungkook. "Is what your answer?" Jungkook asked as he took out a ring pop. Okay, alright, listen. He wasn't actually thinking about proposing and this was Tayja's ring pop but the moment just felt right. Somehow, someway it just felt right.
Taehyung looked at Jungkook and laughed before giving a serious look. "You're serious?" He asked, his eyebrow raising as he then looked at Jungkook. "Look, i'm broke as of now and I promise to get you a better ring and even do a better proposal.. but I want to be able to call you my fiance." Jungkook babbled on and Taehyung chuckled before leaning in and kissing the male on his lips softly.
Proposing in a graveyard huh? how romantic. Well whatever, Taehyung couldn't blame Jungkook. It was sweet and he couldn't ask for a better place, really because he was with his family. It would feel incomplete if Jungkook proposed anywhere else if he was being honest. Even if Hanuel was there in spirit.
"Ew, gross." TayJa got off Jungkook's lap who chuckled and shook his head. "Yes, I would say yes." Taehyung huffed as he let Jungkook put the ring pop on his finger. "I'm so done with you honestly." Taehyung laughed. "Oh well." Jungkook laughed while bringing Taehyung in for another kiss before picking up Cheonsa and kissing her cheeks. "Soon, we'll all be Jeon's and then, you'll have a brother."
"Excuse me?" Taehyung choked out, looking at Jungkook with widened eyes. God this boy just loved springing stuff on him huh? Jungkook gave puppy eyes and Taehyung scoffed. "You're lucky I want another baby." he huffed. With that, Jungkook smiled widely. "I love you."
"I love you too." Taehyung scoffed although he smiled soon after. "No, my mommy!" TayJa held onto Taehyung. WIth that, they all laughed, Jungkook being a bit offended as he argued with TayJa on who loved Taehyung more. In the end, of course TayJa won. So they guess you could say, they ended up pretty happy, even if they did lose their son. They knew he was safe and he was okay. Maybe it was a little soon to start thinking of another baby but, it felt right for the both of them.
Everything happened for a reason and although they didn't know what the reason could be, they just went with it because what else could they do? Mourning... hurt and they probably would be mourning for Hanuel their whole life but knowing Hanuel was okay made them happy. They were happy that Hanuel was happy, or so they assumed and hoped that he was happy.
