Chapter 41

Master Fu had his hands clasped before him as he stared at a nervous Gabriel Agreste in front of him.

"So. You're the cause of all our problems."

Gabriel winced a bit.

Fu narrowed his eyes a bit more at the man and then turned them to Ladybug, Chat Noir and Danny who were standing next to them and watching intently. "Does anyone else know?"

Ladybug shook her head. "Unless someone noticed the broken window that leads to his lair, but they'll only find an empty room and they'll have to get past the large fence first."

"Someone who's weird enough to be awake right now might have seen him come in here but they probably won't recognize him." Adrien added on. He was looking at Wayzz curiously, having already been introduced. "And we sneaked in through the back."

It had been a whole ordeal to get Danny and all the butterflies in without others noticing. Especially now that it had gotten so dark. It was past midnight and the glowing cloud of butterflies were more than visible.

Danny had to say the butterflies were easier to deal with now. Something you probably wouldn't expect since there were so many more now. But they were much calmer than before. Parting before him, almost as if reading his thoughts. Danny wondered why they still followed him. He had taken the butterfly clip off and the energy inside his core was gone for all he knew. Or his body must've just gotten used to it suddenly. There was at least something different there. He couldn't remember how it felt before the energy of the miraculous had entered there and made itself at home.

Danny had absently wondered what would happen to the butterflies once Nooroo returned to his own species.

Master Fu nodded, satisfied with Adrien's response. He shared a glance with Wayzz and saw the hopeful look he was giving him. "Nooroo hasn't come out of his miraculous. And your butterfly army has doubled." He stroked the miraculous he was holding under his finger and looked up at Danny suspisciously. "What happened?"

Danny shifted his feet and looked down. He grinned nervously. "Well uh. He transformed me. To save me, you know. Cuz, long story, I was dying, but it was because of his powers and he saved me. I thought I- I mean it's a really powerful thing, like his prized possession. And I didn't want to force him to- He used it to safe me so I didn't want to make him stay with me cause he already has so much bad experience with being the servant of someone so I asked him if I should take the miraculous off and give it to you and he said yeah and here you go."

Master Fu held the miraculous tighter. "I know you meant well, Danny. But Nooroo might think you don't want him. That you rejected him."

Danny looked shocked. "But I didn't."

"Yes, I know. Nooroo has been mistreated lately." He didn't look at Gabriel but the undertone of bitterness was clearly visible.

Gabriel took a breath. "About that. I have-"

"We are not discussing you yet, Agreste." Master Fu didn't even look up at him as he continued to talk to Danny. He handed the butterfly back to the boy. "He won't be able to come out until someone summons him or unless he's been taken from his holder unintentionally." He gave as an explanation and Danny took it with hesitation.

He'd noticed that the brooch had transformed a bit from a clothing brooch to a hairclip which made it so much easier to put it back in. There was a light and not a moment later did the purple kwami fly out into the open.

He looked around and saw Fu. He froze, not being able to believe his eyes. The man had grown a lot older, but he still recognized him. He was back. Back with the keeper. He saw Wayzz, who was slowly floating closer to him.

The green kwami smiled and with tears in his eyes flung himself to the other. "Welcome back."

Danny smiled at the two. He felt bad for the kwamis though, only being able to appear when summoned. It sounded like a prison. He wished he could let them free to go around as they pleased. They wouldn't have to be entrapped and misused by humans. It didn't really sit well with him.

But he felt happy when he saw their reunion. He continued smiling as they let go and Nooroo greeted Mister Fu.

Finally, Fu addressed the teens again. "How exactly did you save Nooroo? And why did Danny need saving?" He furrowed his eyebrows. "I know Danny let himself be akumatized and used the energy inside him as a guide towards Hawkmoth." He winked at the baffled poeple. "I figured. Danny's a smart kid. But what happened then?"

Marinette glanced at Gabriel, who was also listening intently. She didn't want to reveal too much about her friend. She would never really trust that man again. "Danny's akuma form was fire. But his actual element is ice so that clashed and made him weak and drained him. So much heat could kill him. Nooroo offered to fix the akumatization because there was no way to break the Akuma out. It had become fire basically."

Adrien cut in with something he had been wondering. "What I don't understand is why Hawkmoth gave in so easily. It's like he's already had a conversation with Danny before and was halfway to giving up already." His gaze cut through Gabriel and Danny, the latter of which shrugged.

"Yeah. I'd already had some conversations with him from the times when I intercepted one of his akumawhatevers." He frowned at the former Hawkmoth through the corner of his eye, eyebrow raised. However, the undertone of his voice contained a satisfied smirk. "We had some talks."

Mr. Agreste nodded, not trying to hide it. "Although he was incredibly snarky and disrespectful, Danny raised some good points."

"He had all the reason to be disrespectful," Marinette muttered angrily under her breath, but Master Fu wasn't paying attention to them.

He was looking at Danny with a proud smile. "Then I feel I must thank you. For your involvement in our case. We wouldn't have been able to do it without you."

"Ah. I'm sure you would've gotten a hold of him someday," Danny deflected, but Master Fu could see his shy smile and he returned it. The glowing butterflies fluttered around Danny's head happily.

Then the old keeper turned to Ladybug and Chat Noir and looked at them proudly. "And thank you for your great service to France. For keeping it save for such a long time. It doesn't happen often that miraculouses have to fight each other, but you have handled it grandeously."

Danny grinned at them. "Yeah. You guys were amazing! I could not have done all that you did."

They all exchanged smiles and congratulations, celebrating their victory and looking back on their achievements.

Chat then turned to Master Fu, ears drawn back in distress. "We don't have to return our miraculouses now, right?"

Fu shook his head. "Guarding this country from Hakwmoth's darkness was not the only thing you did. These people will still need heros. Especially after all these changes and the sudden freedom they will have. They will need a constant. Besides, not everyone will use that freedom wisely."

Chat pumped his fist with with a small whoop. Then he froze. "Oh um. Not that I am happy there's gonna be some chaos I just. Yeah. I got attached to Plagg. Like a lot. Like I don't know what I'm gonna do without him."

Ladybug nodded in full agreement. "Yeah me neither. I don't really want to part from her anytime soon."

Master Fu looked at them knowingly. "Trust me. I know what you mean." He shared a look with Wayzz, who laughed.

"Now, Gabriel Agreste."

The mood turned and everyone looked at the man in question, who stiffened.

"What you did was unforgivable." Fu started. "Do you understand the extent of damage you do to a kwami when you not only imprison them like this, but turn their powers against them? Against what they stand for?"

Gabriel towered over the old keeper, but he had never felt so small. "I do understand now."

Fu nodded. "Do you have anything to say for your actions? A reason, perhaps."

Gabriel swallowed and his shoulders slumped. "I did have a reason, of course. It wasn't for nothing. It was. It was for my wife, Emily. She passed away a couple of years ago. It- it was so sudden. She was just gone." He swallowed. He didn't notice Chat crossing his arms and looking away or Ladybug swinging an arm around him. "I knew she used to be a miraculous holder. She'd told me a long time ago. She gave it up to be with me..." He looked down in sorrow. "I took it up to be with her. The cat and ladybug miraculous would give me ultimate power. Enough to raise the dead. But the longer I kept this up, the more I thought of what I could do with it."

He took a breath and turned to look at Nooroo, who froze upon his gaze.

"Nooroo," he started. This was the first time he was going to say this (definitely not the last) and he wanted to say it right. "I'm sorry. I caused you a lot of grief and have been a horrible holder. I am so sorry I put you through that." He did not look away from the kwami. Didn't say 'I had no idea-' or 'I wish I hadn't-' because there was no excuse to what he had done and he couldn't wish because it had happened and he would face his actions. If there was one thing Gabriel Agreste could, it was to accept defeat graciously.

Nooroo floated still for a second before he opened his mouth only to have Gabriel cut him off. Because he knew what the kwami was going to say. He may have misused the powers but he hadn't treated Nooroo himself that badly. He had gotten to know the kwami well. "I don't want your forgiveness. I don't deserve it."

Nooroo frowned. "I don't care whether you deserve it or not-"

"I know you don't." Gabriel shook his head. "But I do. I don't want it."

"Ok."

Master Fu raised his eyebrows. "There is one more thing I need to ask of you. Do you have the peacock miraculous in your possession?"

Gabriel blinked, as if just realizing that. "Yes, I do."

"You will bring it here as soon as this is all dealt with." He said sternly, but still hopeful. He would finally right the wrong he'd committed all those years ago, when he had lost the butterfly miraculous. And when the peacock suddenly disappeared from his radar. Who would have known they would've have found each other before he had found them.

Gabriel nodded. "I will."

Master Fu nodded approvingly. "Now. On to the punishment. We are not going to turn you in to the police." He paused at Gabriel's surprise. The teens in the room were looking anywhere but at him so he understood they had left him in the dark with what would happen to him. He guessed that was their own way of getting revenge. He snorted and continued. "This is a matter between the miraculouses and will be solved here. Given that Nooroo was the main victim, he will get to decide what your punishment will be."

Nooroo froze at the sudden staring and he flew closer to Danny subconsciously. Some butterflies crowded around him as if to hide him away and comfort him. "I think he's learned. I believe he won't do this again."

Chat scoffed. "Of course he won't. We'll make sure of that."

Ladybug on the other hand was angry. "You're just letting him get away with it? You suffered a lot because of him."

Nooroo shrugged. "I will get over it."

Danny frowned. He recognized this. And he didn't like it. "Nooroo," he said with deathly seriousness. "Hawkmoth not only caused you harm, but also the citizens. You may not have been outside for awhile so I'll tell you how it was. It was terrible. People were scared of feeling. Of being angry or sad. And we know how important those emotions are. Like, have you seen Inside Out?? They're important. It was fucked up alright. They were trapped just as much as you were. He caused that!"

Gabriel jumped when a finger was roughly pointed at him. He didn't say anything though. They'd been calling him out since he got here, but he understood. They saw him as the enemy. And he got that, but from his perspective it didn't seem like that. However, he supposed if this was a book he'd be the main antagonist, so he took it.

Nooroo crossed his arms and looked down. He nodded. "I guess you're right. He does deserve some punishment. I just don't know what to give him."

"Don't worry about that," Fu spoke up. He'd been looking at the two with a satisfied smile. "I know exactly what he needs." He leaned back on his feet, smirking at Gabriel. "I understand you're the head of a large business in clothing design. You're obviously successful. You have more than enough to pay for your actions."

Gabriel raised an unimpressed eyebrow. "You want me to pay you?"

Fu waved a hand. "Of course not. I want you to use your money for better causes. You will give away a grand portion of your money to charity of your choice, but with my approval. You will buy a new, more humble house and sell this one. Of course, you will discuss all changes with your son."

Gabriel Agreste was looking very pale, but Fu was far from finished.

"You will find a proper successor for you companies and step off."

"What?!"

"You may continue to design clothing and send it over, but all big choices will no longer be made by you. The income you receive from your designs will also go to charity. You may keep a portion to pay for your son's school, the house and other basic necessities. You won't live in poverty, but it will certainly be a huge difference from how you lived before."

"I can't do that!" Gabriel exclaimed. "I have a big name. This is my legacy. I can't throw it away! You're taking everything away from me!"

"You took a lot from others." The old man leveled Gabriel with a steady glare. "It's time for you to give. I am giving you and your family a new start."

That shut him up, but he was still seething.

"I also want you to visit the charities you are sponsoring at least once a week. I will come by often to see how you are doing and make sure you're following through. If you don't, know that I am not powerless and am not above sending you to jail anyways."

Gabriel grumbled. "Fine. I agree. I don't suppose I have a choice anyways."

Nooroo looked quite content with the arrangement but the same could not be said for Ladybug.

She stepped forward. "Master Fu. I get that we can't do much more in case people get suspicious, but I think I also deserve to give him some of my own punishment."

Fu smiled. "Go ahead, Ladybug."

Marinette stood in front of Gabriel with deathly calmess and without warning punched him on the jaw.

She put her hands on her hips as he stumbled back, groaning. "I've wanted to do that for such a long time."

Danny highfived Ladybug, laughing.

"It feels good right?"

"You bet it does. I was so jealous when you got him."

Chat Noir took one step forward in concern and paused. He seemed indesisive as he switched between looking at Gabriel and at Master Fu.

Fu put a hand on the boy's shoulders. "Go ahead if you want to."

They ignored Gabriel's groans and whines as he stood back up.

"Yeah! Go ahead, dude!" Danny grinned. "Nooroo, I think you should get a turn too."

The kwami grinned nervously. "I don't think I especially want to. I would probably not get much satisfaction from it."

Danny nodded. "That's what I thought. But I know Chat has a lot of frustration to work with."

Ladybug grinned and bumped his shoulder with hers. "It's good therapy. I swear."

Chat pursed his lips to keep from smiling at his friends. "Alright alright. If you say so."

"Yeah!"

"Get him!"

Gabriel watched with defeat as the other superhero stood in front of him. He knew he was getting a throbbing headache tomorrow.

Chat was tense but when he looked at the man his expression became more determined. He stared at him levelly before taking in a deep breath and letting it go. "Claws in."

Gabriel Agreste only had a moment to realize his son was suddenly standing in front of him and drawing his fist back. "Adrien?-"

He was decked right across the side of his face and he dropped to the ground, sliding back and not moving.

The room was in silence as Adrien panted.

Danny hurried forward to check on the adult. "He's fine," he called back. "Well, he's not dead. But he'll be out for some time and he's going to feel that when he wakes up." Danny looked up at the blond from where he was crouching. "Dude. That was fucking lit."

Adrien smirked and waved his wrist in the air a bit, loosening the digits. "You're right. That did feel good."

Marinette detransformed too and hugged Adrien. "I'm so proud of you."

Danny skipped past the hugging couple and towards Fu and the kwamis, Tikki included. He found the kwamis huddled together. Now that the tension had diminished and everything had been settled they could greet each other properly.

The half ghost teen crossed his arms and looked at the room satisfied. His butterflies were perched on basically every corner and surface of the room. The kwamis were together. Marinette and Adrien were hugging it out and exchanging stupidly sweet words. Gabriel was unconscious on the ground.

Yeah, everything was perfect.

"There's one more thing, Danny." Mister Fu caught his attention. He turned to the group of kwamis. "This involves you too."

They huddled around him and he started.

"Now that most everything is arranged, there's just the question of what happens to Nooroo. To which I have a suggestion."

Tikki raised an eyebrow. "What do you mean. Will he not stay with us?"

Fu shook his head. "You will see him, don't worry. But I'm afraid he's going to need more help after all that has happened to him."

Wayzz frowned in confusion. "What are you suggesting, master?"

Fu smiled and looked at Danny, who had his hands in the pockets of his hoodie and was looking at them curiously. "I believe it would be beneficial if Nooroo stays with Danny for a while."

There was a shocked short silence.

"Not that I'm against it," the purple kwami began, "but why?"

"You're compatible. Danny understands what you're going through the most. He's had a rough past. And he knows how to get through it. He can help you reach a full recovery and process everything. Besides, you've already formed a bond." His eyes twinkled as he said this.

Danny bit his lip and hunched over a bit. "I- I don't know if I can do that. I mean, I love Nooroo, well I haven't gotten to know him that much but yeah. But that bond only formed when he had to save me and I don't want to force you," he turned that last part to the kwami. "You've been away from your friends way too long. I already don't like restraining you in- in a clip." He waved at it. "I don't want to force you to follow me and cage you."

"Danny," Nooroo cut him off, "the miraculous doesn't cage us. We chose to link our power to it. Our power would be useless if we didn't fuse with a human. And don't think you're forcing me to do anything." He smiled. "You've given me all the freedom I've yearned for. Our bond formed a long time ago. I could feel you through the energy you were collecting. You gave me hope. I could hear you through Hawkmoth's conversations with you and you were amazing." He grinned. "You will make a great companion. I love you too."

Danny smiled wobbily. He reached out and carefully wrapped his palm around the back of the purple kwami. "I would love to be your holder."

The boy looked at the other kwamis. "Can I keep him? I will bring him here every day, I promise."

Tikki laughed and Wayzz nodded. "Thank you, Danny. I will trust that you can take good care of him."

Plagg, however, looked more serious and flew close to Danny's face. "Help him and don't let anything bad happen to him."

Danny remembered how Plagg had gone through this too. He probably still had mental scars from it. He nodded. "I will."

"And I didn't forget your promise," Plagg added on. "Of getting Nooroo back to us. Thank you. I'll give you some of my Camembert when I get it." He looked sideways at Fu, who raised his hands and walked towards the kitchen.

"I got the hint. I'll be right back."

Danny laughed.

Marinette joined them, hand clasped around Adrien's. "So I heard Nooroo's staying with Danny?"

"Yep." Danny stuck his chin out proudly. "I have a new roommate."

"That's great." Adrien smiled at the purple kwami. "So you'll be joining us in the skies?"

"Uhh." Danny paused, glancing at Nooroo. "I think we should keep it on the down low for now. We need a vacation from all the drama."

"Actually," Fu called as he entered. He handed Plagg his Camembert when he flew around his head impatiently and gave Tikki some cookies. He continued talking as he handed Nooroo a plate with pieces of apple, seeds an all. Nooroo gave a cry of happiness and jumped on the plate as if he'd never seen a finer delicacy. "The drama might not be over for a while. I'm not saying you should go jumping on rooftops. It's a good idea for Nooroo to sit it out for a few centuries."

Danny raised his hand. "I uh don't think I'll make it that far."

"But there's still the problem of the public not knowing Hawkmoth is gone now. We need to be able to show them that they're safe now. Therefore-" Master Fu cocked his head- "I advise revealing Nooroo to the world."

Plagg choked on his mouthful of Camembert. Tikki spit her cookies out. Nooroo dropped his apple piece. And Marinette and Adrien jumped back, startled.

"Wait. Time out." Danny gestured with his hands. "Aren't kwamis a secret to the world? Like nobody is supposed about them?"

"Until now," Fu stroked his goatee. "Nooroo will not have to go into hiding anymore. And I think it's time France knows more about what they've been dealing with. Besides, in a few hundred years it will have been forgotten again. A thing of history."

"Are you sure this is safe?" Adrien asked, scared for not only Nooroo but also Danny.

"Danny can protect him. He is more than capable."

"But," Danny winced, "They don't know Nooroo isn't at fault here. They'll think he's evil like Hawkmoth."

"That's another reason why I asked you to take him in. You are a beacon of hope within Paris. People trust you. If Nooroo falls under your protection and you stand by him, the public will stand by him too. Especially if you tell them his story. Without mentioning Gabriel of course." The old keeper turned to the butterfly kwami. "And with your permission only."

"I guess that's reasonable." Nooroo wiggled with his arms as if twiddling his fingers. "I trust your reasoning, keeper."

Fu was touched. It had been his fault that his miraculous was lost in the first place. And here he was, putting his existence in the old man's hands. "Thank you."

Danny shrugged. "If Nooroo's ok with it then I'm ok with it."

Adrien raised his eyebrows. "Wow. Your parents will be out of their minds. Imagine if you told them you also have ghost powers on top of being a miraculous holder. You really get involved with every creature they study."

"Actually they already know I'm Phantom."

"What?!" Adrien grabbed the boy by the shoulders. "Since when??"

"I have no idea." Danny shrugged. "But they seem cool with it. And they haven't bothered the Tenshis after I told them off the third time either so I think they won't be a problem."

Adrien made a face. "Tenshis? You mean Tenshi, right?"

"What?" Marinette piped in.

"Tenshi means angel in Japanese," Adrien clarified. "The plural is Tenshi-tachi."

Danny waved his fingers. "Tenshis is easier. That's the new name I have for the Papis." He smiled at the butterflies that had settled on his hair. "They like it."

"Me too." Nooroo nodded, floating closer. "It's perfect."

"It's adorable," Tikki cooed.

"Whatever." Adrien said with a huff. "But you're gonna be saying it wrong the whole time."

"Like I care, ya spelling Nazi."

They stuck their tongue at each other.

Fu looked at them, amused. "So that's settled then? Nooroo will stay with Danny and his existence will be revealed to the world. Tikki and Plagg will stay hidden with Adrien and Marinette. Ladybug and Chat Noir will deal with the upcoming chaos that will rise in France after Hawkmoth's defeat is revealed. And Gabriel will serve his punishment. Adrien, I am sorry about all this."

"Are you kidding?" Adrien smiled. "I mean, I guess that house was kinda filled with memories but I've gotten sick of it. And me and father have a lot to discuss and go through. It's going to be a mess, but it's a start. I can work with this. It's-" he smiled bittersweet "-it's better than it was before. At least now I know what's been going on and we can work through that."

"And you don't have to go through it alone." Marinette tilted her head to look at him. "You have me and your friends with you."

"Yeah." Adrien smiled. "I'll be fine."

"Then let us wake up Gabriel and get the peacock miraculous back."

Holy shit now that that's over. It's long cuz a lot had to be resolved rn and i wanted that done in one chapter so idk if I bored you but suck it up.

Is i recently found out fu actually lost the two miraculouses when he went to some sort of ninja school like a hundred years ago but whatever. I've been trying to keep to Canon for as much as I could (or speculations of Canon I guess) but consider this an au.

Are you satisfied with the arrangements? I know one of you wanted Danny to take credit for defeating hawkmoth and this is the second time you guys make a request I was going to fulfill anyways. The first time was when someone asked for Danny to burst out laughing when he found out chats secret identity.

And why did nobody tell me I was spelling Wayzz wrong. I was counting on you.

If I missed anything please tell me. It was a lot to keep up with.

Ps. What do you want to know about the aftermath?
