Chapter 38

Everything was chaos.

Ladybug was screaming. Chat Noir was screaming. Hawkmoth was screaming. Danny was sweating.

Danny's eyes searched the room in a panic as he simultaneously held onto Ladybug and dodged Chat's desperate attempts at freeing her. Where was that guy?? Where was Hawkbutt that giant asshole that Danny REALLY wanted to kick his buttbfkcjkdkd.

Danny found a staircase and jumped down, because the man was clearly not on this floor.

What he was was shouting at him in his head about what did he think he was doing. Danny ignored him completely.

"My Lady!" Chat shouted after her.

She wriggled in her bonds. "I don't know! I can't use Lucky Charm!"

Danny was ignoring everything at this point. He ran around like a sniffing hound after a scent.

He was somewhere around here. Somewhere. Close. Down.

He perked up. Hawkmoth was somewhere down. He needed to go down.

They were in a study of some kind, basically wrecking the place. Ladybug and Chat Noir were speaking to each other, frantically. Chat's voice getting increasingly more panicked as he started figuring things out. Even if Danny was paying attention to them, he would feel like he was missing a lot. It was almost like they were speaking through telepathy with how little words they used and how fast they understood each other.

But Danny was too occupied trying to find a way down. How Hawkmoth managed to go through floor beats him, but he wasn't sure if his ghost powers worked like this.

Suddenly a very familiar word echoed through the room and managed to be filtered through the fog in Danny's brain.

"Cataclysm!"

Oh...

OH

Yes. Good idea.

The fire akuma turned around just in time to see Chat hold dark, swirling, dangerous energy in his claws. His lips were pressed thin and his body was shifting as if incredibly uncomfortable. His green eyes jumped from one spot in the room to another and he was taking in short breaths.

Danny took a step back.

Because that cat looked ready to scratch a bitch.

He looked at Danny, desperate. "Please tell me you're wrong."

Danny's shoulders slumped a bit and he looked back at the boy with pity.

That was not the response he wanted to hear. He growled and pounced. Danny was only just able to dodge him and the blond hit the desk instead. That didn't stop him.

He kicked it and it went crashing against the wall. "NO! It's not true!"

Danny and Ladybug exchanged some glances. She was still wrapped in his scarf, but she'd managed to dislodge her arms. Now, however, she was only worried and angry and confused and betrayed. This was not fair for her partner, one of her best friends, her future husband.

He did not deserve this.

Chat tried to tackle him again, but Danny slapped him with his scarf. The raven's eyes widened for a second when he realized the fire at the end of his scarf had creeped up closer to him. He quickly let go of Ladybug before he accidentally burned her.

She dropped on her feet, but didn't make a move on the akuma.

Chat had no qualms of holding back and figuring it out. He screamed through his teeth and held his claw filled with destructive energy out, ready to rip the butterfly out of his friend and get this over with. He didn't want to know if Danny was right. Didn't want to see. He'd break. He would break. He didn't want to see.

Danny thought fast and grabbed Adrian's claw and went with the momentum to shove it on the ground.

Ladybug was only able to let out a yelp before they all fell right through the floor that had desintegrated under them.

There was some kind of basement under the house. He hadn't known they had a basement. It was dark. Only some fireflies to light it up, including a circle shaped window that slanted above them.

Wait. Those weren't fireflies. They were glowing butterflies. And it wasn't empty.

A man in a suit was standing right in the middle of the room, staring wide eyes at the teenagers that had tumbled from the sky right into his lair.

Danny stood up with a smirk. "Fancy seeing you here, Hawkbutt. Sorry for dropping in so unexpectedly."

The man scowled and shouted. "What are you doing here!"

"I said I was going to find you," the akuma mentioned as he started to walk towards the villain. "This was all part of my plan."

"I was this close to getting them!"

"You were close to nothing!" Danny snapped. "This would've gone on forever untill Ladybug and Chat Noir would've finally found you. What are you still doing down here! I gave you so many chances. Why are you still here."

"None of your business, boy!" He brought his hand in front of his chest and closed it into a fist. "Give me the miraculouses." He growled at the two heroes, who had frozen at the sight of the man they'd been looking for for almost two years.

Danny cried out and wrapped his arms around his stomach. Pain and cramps piling on top of the misery he was already going through. He hadn't known Hawkmoth could do that.

"Danny!" Ladybug cried out and rushed forward to her friend that was slowly sinking to the ground. He let out another cry.

"Stop it!" Chat screamed, stomping as he approached the man himself. "WHY-" he swallowed his tears. "Why do you keep going! What do you wAnt?"

"Because of her!"

"What?" Ladybug looked up from where she was holding Danny.

"I did it because of her! I only need them for a minute. Just one and I'll fix everything." Hawkmoth clenched his fists and Ladybug yelped, letting go of Danny. "We said we'd be together till death do us apart but if I have the power of the miraculouses I can reverse that."

Chat's tail was very still. He stared rigidly at the man he was supposed to call his father. "You're not supposed to." He said softly. He sighed. He was about to say something they'd known about Hawkmoth for a long time. The reason they would never give him their power. Now that it applied to this man...."You've come this far for power. You won't stop after getting what you wanted. Nobody can withstand this much power and let go of it after. And nobody will be able to stop you if you obtain it." He took a deep breath. Now that he knew the reason, it was like his world was upside down. But he knew one thing. "You can't have it. You can't do this."

"I have to!" Hawkmoth snapped. "I can't do this without her. Adrien deserves more than me."

"You're right!" Ladybug growled. "Adrien deserves so much more. But he doesn't have that. All he has is you!"

"But I can't do this without her. She was my everything. She was always there with me. I-" he took a breath. "I love her."

"Well, you'll have to." Chat walked further. "You'll have to go on without her, because she's gone. Even if you brought her back, she..." He paused.

There was a short silence.

"She wouldn't want to be with the monster that I have become," Hawkmoth finished for him. He finally unclenched his fists and Danny grunted.

"Shit, Danny." Chat Noir gasped when he finally looked over to see if his friend was alright. If you considered transforming into a campfire 'alright' he was in tiptop shape. "Lady, what do we do?!"

Ladybug had been trying to blow the fire away with her yoyo since it had started. She'd seen how slowly his scarf stopped being cloth and turned more and more into flames like a whick. It wasn't until he'd burst into flames that she really started panicking.

"Put him out!" She yelled at the adult in the room.

"I can't!" He yelled back. "I've never summoned back an akuma before. It's only after the possession breaks!"

"There isn't anything to break!" Chat Noir answered, gesturing at the scarf turned fire around an unconscious Danny.

Ladybug fumbled for her yoyo and threw it upwards. "Lucky charm!"

A long roll of tube landed in her arms and she frowned. Her head swiveled around the room, searching for someway to help her partner.

A panel on the ceiling colored red along with the giant window. She glanced back and, as she had suspected, the ribbons in her hair were dotted too.

"Hurry!" Chat shouted as he tried to pat the flames out.

"Help me up!"

The black dressed boy didn't question her, but grabbed onto her and lifted them up with his staff towards where she wanted. She wasted no time in busting through the latch to see what she'd hoped to see. An intricate tube system. They were water pipes.

She searched around inside until she found some type of closed faucet. "Hold this." She threw the roll of tube in her arms to Chat and sprang off.

He scrambled to not let it drop and remain balanced.

"What are you doing." Hawkmoth asked, unsure of her determined expression and frown.

The girl reared back and chucked her yoyo, swinging it straight through the window and shattering it. She ignored the man's cry and grabbed onto one of the glass shards.

When she was back with Chat she cut the tube on the edges with the glass, opened the faucet, and ignored the water streaming out as she forced the tube around the opening. The girl ripped the ribbons out of her hair and wrapped them tight around the tube, making sure it wouldn't slip off. "Let's go!"

The words had barely slipped out of her mouth when Chat dropped them and ran towards Danny with the other end of the tube. He sprayed the fire boy mercilessly.

Ladybug and Hawkmoth rushed closer as the fire dwindled.

Finally it was put out.

Chat lowered his arm and dropped the makeshift hose.

Everything was wet and water was still running from the hose, but nobody cared.

The cat superhero dropped to his knees next to Ladybug, who was checking Danny over, frantic. "Is he ok?" He said through pants.

"No! I- I don't know! Is his pulse supposed to be like that? Have-" She looked at him as she held her hand on the boy's cheek. "Have you ever felt him be this warm?"

Chat felt the other's forehead and sucked in some air. "Crap."

"Isn't he supposed to be good with the fire element?" Hawkmoth asked, confused and panicked.

"No!" The supers shouted.

"Fire is very bad for him!" Ladybug clarified. "His element is ice! This much heat could kill him from the inside."

"What?! But then how-?!"

"It doesn't matter. We have to do something!"

Suddenly a bright light startled them out of their panicked screaming.

Hawkmoth gasped as his suit disappeared and a kwami flew out of the butterfly clip on his suit. "What? Nooroo?"

The teens stared at the kwami with wide eyes. So this was the guy. This was Nooroo.

The kwami looked at the boy on the ground with concern and then flew up to the Hawkmoth's face. "Give me to him. I can save him."

The man gasped. "Nooroo, are you sure?"

"Yes!" He stared into his master's eyes. "It's time anyways." He looked at the clip. "Time to let go."

A hand rose to the clip. The man bowed his head and clenched his hand. He whispered something nobody could hear and a few tears rolled down his cheeks. He sighed and uncliped it.

Nooroo looked positively overjoyed when his miraculous passed from one holder to the other. Ladybug made sure to secure it firmly in the teen's hair, the only place where it was really possible given that the rest was almost burned off except for his skin tight suit.

The kwami of generosity looked down at the boy who'd done so much for him, risked so much. A hero who'd been very generous with his time and effort and powers and overall self. Who'd given so much for others.

He was free of one master and already being assigned another.

The only thought that passed through him as he let himself be sucked in by the butterfly clip was that he couldn't have minded any less.

Well.

Yes.

I uh. I hope this was up to your expectations. I'm feeling kinda numb after writing that last part. Like it was complete chaos throughout this whole thing and now I'm just.....foooooei.

Wow ok. Here you go. There are some things about the next chapter in not sure about. Like will I let hawkmoth know ladybugs and chat noirs identities? What do you guys think?
