Chapter 37

"So what do I do if they don't give me their miraculouses," Danny mumbled to Hawkmoth as he bounded over the buildings, the two heroes right behind. He was trying to distract Hawkmoth so he wouldn't realize Danny had already jumped over a few potential hiding spots where they could 'trade'. "You must've learned some things from past experiences."

Hawkmoth hummed thoughtfully. "Well, I usually have Chat Noir targeted first. He's easier to beat."

"Oh?" Danny inquired as he jumped from one roof to another. In the street below him pedestrians looked up, startled. "And why is that?"

"He will do anything to save others. He usually takes the blow. For citizens, but especially for Ladybug. He's her voluntary meat shield. We just target her and he steps in."

Danny felt his breath hitch and scowled. He knew this was the mindset of many villains. They put lives in danger and lure the hero in. Knowing this didn't make him any less angry at their obvious misuse of a hero's selflessness. Cowards.

"So," he continued. "What about Ladybug? I can't mind control Chat Noir, but I could trap him. What should I do with the girl?"

"We used to think we could get her to give up by turning her partner against her, but it seems like my accomplices were her friends or at least known by her. She could hold her ground."

Danny felt another pang cut through his already heating heart and core.

Like other times the thought passed through his mind, it struck him deep. How Ladybug and Chat Noir fought against their friends and even family members on a weekly basis he could not fathom. He would have snapped after the third akuma and... He didn't know what would have become of him.

He would despair. He would destroy the city until he could find the villain that was foolish and sadistic enough to make them go through that. He would go insane for sure.

He'd already taken the first step to insanity after his very first time in the presence of an akuma.

He was just happy it would be over soon.

"Hey hothead!" Chat appeared next to him, barely even looking at the chimney he was jumping over. "How much longer?"

Danny scrunched his eyebrows a bit. Why did Chat have to be so curious. He was trying to make Hawkmoth forget about the time they were taking. It hadn't been any more than a minute, but with the way his mind was racing it felt way longer.

Somewhere between all the plans and panicked thoughts he admired how easily Chat moved. The two superheros had learned fast. He could appreciate how Adrien had already practiced fencing and it showed in his fighting. And Marinette had learned the ways of the yoyo very fast.

"We're almost there," Danny answered both Chat Noir and Hawkmoth. And they were, he realized as he checked his Papi sense. They were getting very close. The energy was getting overwhelming. Or maybe that was just the warmth.

He missed the frown in Chat's face when the fire akuma jumped ahead. "So what else?" He inquired.

Hawkmoth paused before continuing. "Yes well. Ladybug is very creative in weapons. Don't underestimate her yoyo. Keep the environment in which she's in as bare as possible. She will use anything against you."

Danny was nodding. That made sense. Marinette had explained how her Lucky Charm worked but he was sure that somebody without Marinette's creative thinking wouldn't have a clue on what to do with the given stuff.

"Another thing is to bring as many variables into the fight. Give her too much to work with and she will be at a loss on what to do."

Danny bit his lip to stop himself from cursing him out. He loved to mess with people's minds, didn't he.

The boy was just happy Hawkmoth couldn't read minds, that much he'd been able to figure out of his encounter with Voidness. He was happy for that or else keeping up the facade of being controlled would have been that much harder.

"Alright," he mumbled, trying to space the guy out now lest he lose control of his mouth. "I'll keep that in mind." His mind roamed the street and he was startled at how close they'd gotten to their destination while he was having a talk.

"Are you sure we're almost there?"

Danny scowled now. Why was this cat so set on this. He'd already told him. Danny didn't want the whole mission jeopardized because some cat was too curious. "Yes," he bit out. Then he realized what was the cat's cause of his troubles. Adrien's house was but one street away from them.

The akumatized hero in disguise took a sharp breath. That was where the energy trail was leading him to. The center of power. He knew he could not be mistaken. Such a strong force as it was.

Only two people lived there. Two people in that large house full of empty rooms that provided with more than enough privacy.

And one of them was crouching rigidly next to him in full hero costume.

Well....

Fuck.

He quickly diverted his attention from the house and landed in an empty street. There were no lived in houses near here. Most of the street was made up of some shoe factory Danny didn't care much about. Lights were off so it must be one of those free days. Or times just weren't good for the industry.

He planted his feet in the middle of the street, steadily refusing to acknowledge the fire that all but almost melted the concrete under him. A wave of dizzines overcame him and he immediately reached out for his core in an attempt to ground him and try to gain his bearings.

Firecracker turned around to face the heroes and spoke before Hawkmoth could ask what was happening. The boy could almost feel the nervousness and anxiousness the man on the other side of his mask was feeling.

"Here. I was thinking we should keep the victims to a minimum." He grinned at them to keep from thinking of the suffocating warmth inside him and how his breathing was getting harder.

Ladybug frowned in concern. "Are you ok, Firecracker?"

"Yep. Peachy. Let's get back to the trade." He extended his hand and wiggled his fingers in an impatient gesture. "Hand em over."

Chat Noir leaned on his staff. "And how do we know you'll let go of the Akuma then?"

Danny shrugged. "You'll have to take my word for it. Just as I will take your word that you won't be playing any tricks on me."

The two heroes glanced at each other and exchanged some nonverbal conversation. They couldn't be sure Danny was actually still in control of his actions and they didn't know what his plan was. And if he wasn't in control then they couldn't know Hawkmoth would actually leave Danny alone and let up on attacking Paris. They'd never believed he would before. They didn't trust Hawkmoth. But what about Danny?

Ladybug slowly lifted her hand to rub it on her ear. Chat twirled the ring in his finger as he bit his lip. And Danny started freaking out. What- they weren't actually going through with it??? They didn't trust him that much, did they? Please don't trust me that much nnononono. Do not do this. Do NOT do this.

Ladybug must have noticed something about him. Maybe in his expression or his body language or his scarf that started flicking. She paused and lowered her hand, clenching it into a fist. "No. We won't give you our miraculouses. We never have and we never will."

Chat Noir's ears twitched at her before he nodded, frowning, and readied himself in a battle stance. "You're the one who should surrender now, Firecracker, before we crack your bones."

The villain growled and crouched. "If you won't give them to me, then I'll have to do this the fun way." He pounced.

The animal and insect themed supers dodged to the sides and launched their own attacks.

Ladybug threw a garbage bin at him and he smacked it aside only to be kicked by a red colored boot.

Danny skidded on the pavement and let out a huf when Ladybug grabbed his hands and secured them back, holding him down by planting a foot on his back. She seemed to be ready to tell him off but paused when she heard his heavy breathing of extertion. He accidentally let out and a small whimper of pain that she could just catch when she was ripped away by a scarf end and thrown away.

Firecraker stood up with difficulty. He needed to get this done quickly or he wouldn't last much longer.

It didn't really matter if Hawkmoth knew that he'd chosen the wrong power for him, but if he realized Danny wouldn't be much use to him soon he would probably take the akuma back and there would Danny's chance have gone. That would not be good.

Unless Hawkmoth could also feel his pain, which he doubted because why send someone to do the job for you if you're gonna get hurt anyway, then he didn't have to worry about him knowing he was hurt. Not for now at least.

Another wave of heat ran through his body and it was almost like his skin was on fire.

Alright he was throwing a little bit of caution and subtelty out the window because this needed to be done sooner rather than later.

The akuma jumped on a building and looked around quickly, pinpointing where he needed to go. He swallowed as he again thought of what the building meant. Gosh, this was getting more complicated by the day.

He heard thumps behind him and he turned to see Ladybug stand there, tense. Her eyebrows were furrowed and her hands clenched on her yoyo.

Oh no. She was trying to come up with a plan. He did not need her bringing more variables into this than he needed. The only thing they needed to do was let him show them where to go. But how.

He wasn't thinking clearly when he jumped towards her. The warmth was clouding his thoughts. He clung on to the idea that he needed to get the heroes to the Agreste's house.

Maybe if I punch her a bit unconscious, he thought as he swung his fist to her head.

Her eyes widened in a bit of shock but she dodged and returned the punch with a kick to his chin which made his head swim. However, he could see her twirling and preparing to kick him again but he snatched the foot in the air, swung around and chucked her over him and to the street in front of Adrian's house.

Speaking of, Chat Noir rushed forward to keep Ladybug from getting hurt anymore by the guy who they were not sure was on their side or not. He extended his claws and tackled Danny.

Danny felt the soft pads on his suit and the not so soft class on his skin. It didn't penetrate, but as Chat reared back and swung towards the scarf, intent on scratching it up, Danny dodged only to have his shoulder, scratched open.

Both boys let out a yelp.

Firecracker acted on instinct and pushed the hero off him and stumbled up. There was a pounding on his shoulder where he could feel the blood rushing. At least it wasn't that bad. Chat had retaliated when he realized what was happening. However, Danny's head was pounding too. Probably because of the kick or the suffocating warmth, or the tension in the air.

Danny grunted in frustration and took a short deep breath. "Ok. Let's do this." Chat had no time to react when Danny spinned, sweeping his leg through the blond's and then grabbed one of the feet in the air and swung him right at the mansion next to the building they were standing on.

What could he say, feet were the easiest way to swing someone around. He didn't want to break their arms.

The black superhero flew over the iron gates and right through the wall on the second floor.

"Chat!" Ladybug screamed and barely noticed the scarf snaking around her and tying her up. Danny didn't say anything as he jumped through the hole in the wall, right after Chat, Ladybug in tow.

He had to finish this now or he would be finished soon.

Pfffffffffffffffffff
Yes. Action scenes. I like em. Danny's idea is basically to just throw the heroes at the villain like "get help" before he himself passed out.

Next scene is gonna be the ultimate climax ahhhhhhh can't wait for you guys to read it. Well this was the scene with the most fighting but stilllllll

Chausitos. Les gusta el dibujo de akumatizado Danny que hice? Parece un chupete.... Eso no era mi intención pero bueno! Demasiado tarde ahora. Le doy la culpa a la navidad.
